I see the only team to test MHB through the air was East Baptist, who threw for 267 yards. It doesn't look like MHB even played anyone who could throw the ball all year. No wonder they only gave up 14 points a game. They haven't played against anyone with a real life passing attack. This is a far, far better offense than MHB faced last year. Night and Day better. On Friday their defensive backs won't be able to cover the Mount Union receivers. If the EBT quarterback can go 22-28 for 267 what do you think Fulford can do? This will be a mismatch.

So you are equating a test to the amount of yards given up? Did you look at the number of attempts? Seems to me that ETBU had success cause they were one of the last games of the season and the team was weary from playing common opponents and ready for the playoffs. We also had a few in the secondary who were injured. Seems to me a low number of yards, low number of yards per attempt, low YAC, and a high number of attempts would equal a test that was passed.

Let's compare both teams opponents ranked in the top 100 in total passing yards:

Mount
Heidelberg  #9  327.3
Capital #30 289.9
CWRU  #62  250.7
Baldwin Wallace # 64  249.1
Oshkosh  #69  244.7
Frostburg St.  #82  237.0

UMHB
ETBU  #2  403.4
Louisiana College  #13  317.0
Chapman  #42  271.6
Brockport  #47  259.6
St. Thomas  #49  258.4
Hardin Simmons #63  249.5
Texas Lutheran  #77  241.9

Mount's defense has overall good numbers, but they are not dominant in any stretch of the definition.   The D-line is active and can get after the QB in pure passing situations when they dial up stunts and blitzes, but they're not going to dominate the line of scrimmage with the front 4 playing straight up.   The secondary is the weakest link in my opinion.  Very athletic and as a result can make some tremendous plays, but is also prone to blown coverage, simply not playing the ball or not making a sure tackle.  See last week against UWO for exhibit 1a.

I think this game is definitely strength (Mount O) versus strength (MHB D).   What could decide the game is the weaker side of the ball for both teams.

One area where MHB has a decided advantage is special teams.   The Mount coverage units have been horrible all year, even against the lesser teams on the schedule.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Mom- my prayers are with you and PurplePanda.
I figure anybody close to you has to be an outstanding person so we are all better off w a healthy PurplePanda.

I don't place too much credence in the list of passing teams. I'd much rather face a pure passing team than a team that is good/great at both.
St T ranks higher in passing than UWO- what offense would you rather play against if you wanted to win? What offense is truly the better passing offense?

If Mt can have success running the ball a bit, their passing game will look much different to UMHB than those on the list.

Please respect all that have blazed this trail for the rest of the D3!  Whether AUG or WITT or any of the other pioneers.

But this is a selfish request.  Please, all of your best wishes for PurplePanda who is stuck at Johns Hopkins Medical Center this entire week learning how to feed herself through a IV port.

For those who questioned why I would not be at the Stagg this week, this is the reason.

Thanks!  Mom

Mom, sorry to hear.  Prayers for Purple Panda.

Small point. I'm sure I'll get jumped on for this but I don't really care.
I know the players decide on what uniforms to wear. However; our colors are purple and white. Why wear the black on black combination? I see 3 great choices: all purple, purple jerseys or purple pants. Apparently UMHB is wearing their home yellow jerseys so Mount has considerably choices.
Let!s emphasize the purple. Spare me that the all black is more intimidating. We're playing UMHB, not Wilmington. They won't care what we wear.
The Mount Union games are played amidst a sea of purple in the stands: purple hats, purple coats, purple blankets, even purple seat cushions. Would love to have seen the players display the color for which we are most often identified.
If you think otherwise, that's fine. But that's my opinion!
Go get 'em Raiders!

The White Jerseys with purple pants they wore against UWO are a great look and my favorite away uniform! :)

from what I've heard, Mount could wear all the purple in the world and UMHB could wear pink tutus and Mount would still have no chance against the greatest defense that D3 has ever seen.

If you need to wear black to intimidate Wilmington, something has gone very very wrong with Mount Union Football...  ;D

Sorry, I couldn't help myself..
