I really don't care what color scheme a team wears.  Black is not intimidating. It actually is slimming.  Lighter colors make a person look bigger. That is the reason that Tom Landry wore white at home in the 1960's and 1970's altho' the supposed "reason" was to show the visitor's home colors.

All I want is for there to be the brightest contrast possible to see the numerals on the jersey!

I like the UMHB's yellow-gold jersey.

I like HSU's LSU white-gold-purple unis.

For an evening game, I think that white jerseys would be easiest for fans and TV cameras to see.

I think all black makes the fast look ever faster.

Congratulations, Mr. Kasper.  A much-deserved win!

In looking toward the Stagg Bowl, I really believe Mount is in a very good position to win this game. While the Mount offense vs the UMHB defense will be classic, I think the more important match-up is the UMHB offense vs the Mount defense.  I believe Mount Union has the athletes to give UMHB more trouble than they are used to. The CRU's QB last year was incredibly dynamic. This year, Carl Robinson is talented, but he is a freshman. I believe between the coaching and the athletes, Mount has a bigger advantage in this particular match-up (their D vs the CRU O) than anyone has really mentioned.

While the CRU's defense is great, I really believe any D-III defense can only hold down this year's version of the Mount Union offense for so long.  I absolutely cannot picture Mount scoring less than 24 points.  And I just don't see UMHB scoring that many.

There's one big caveat, however. Mount Union has about 45 hours left to figure out how to keep Bryce Wilkerson out of the end zone on a return. He is good enough to change everything.

Yes, I know, a lot of playing around on the OAC board...BUT!...LINFIELD had a great defense this season.  UMHB saw it twice.

To retire a story from a couple weeks ago that didn't seem to die -- Frostburg State didn't bring any players to the postgame news conference because none were requested to show up. The Alliance local media didn't have any questions for them.

Thanks for the info Pat. You mentioned in the Empire 8 board, I think, that the HC went - is there a video link? I like to watch them and can't find one.

One last Uniform Post:

Pictures from yesterday's practice had players in Purple Helmets with White facemasks.

Not that they couldn't bring two sets of helmets to the game.

Sorry if already mentioned, but I came across this article on the Kent State head coaching search (which has been a very strange one, btw).

<<There has been some chatter about Mount Union head coach Vince Kehres being a candidate once his season is complete. The Purple Raiders will play for their 13th national championship against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night. At this time we're told there has not been contact (which is surprising given the number of coaches who have been contacted) but we also hear that Kehres would listen if contacted after the season.>>

Beat you by one minute. 😉

Yikes the fact it said "he would listen" is a bit worrying to me.

This comes from a JCU grad who has an older brother that graduated from Mount, has been to the Stagg Bowl to watch Mount Union probably 8 or more times, and has nothing but respect for the Mount program and the Kehres family.

As a Kent State fan (yes, really), I don't know that I want Vince Kehres.  I'm sure I'll get crushed for this, but I would've rather had Matt Campbell or Jason Candle when they were coaching names coming from Mount Union (Toledo got them both).

Here's my logic.  Vince learned from maybe the greatest college football coach of all time, I grant you that.  He also walked into a program that was already competing for a national title every year and can recruit guys just by showing them a jersey and saying "This is the number you'll wear when we win a national championship."  But how many wins does he have when he isn't better at every position or almost every position on the field?  And how many losses does he have when the teams are close to evenly matched?  Kent State is Wilmington, if you want to make an OAC reference.  One guy (Darrell Hazel) has had success there in the last 35 years.  It's a huge challenge.

After JCU beat Mount last year a Mount fan texted me:  Tom Arth has always been a better in game coach than Vince.  Now he's got the players to match.

I , for one, hope Vince gets offered the job. In one swoop he can retire his mortgage, provide for his children's education and secure his retirement. Not many have a chance to do all that with one signature. In a world where muscle reigns and the only real insurance is cash, he should try for it.

How much do you think Kent State pays?  Paul Haynes' total contract was $1.9 million.  He won't be able to do all those things (pay for kids' school, pay off his house, and retire) on that kind of money without continuing to work.  Though I'm not sure his kids would have to pay if they chose to go to Mount Union.  For two kids, the tuition bills alone will be probably upwards of a quarter million dollars or more in total by the time his kids reach college age.

Please respect all that have blazed this trail for the rest of the D3!  Whether AUG or WITT or any of the other pioneers.

But this is a selfish request.  Please, all of your best wishes for PurplePanda who is stuck at Johns Hopkins Medical Center this entire week learning how to feed herself through a IV port.

For those who questioned why I would not be at the Stagg this week, this is the reason.

Thanks!  Mom
Mom;
This might be a little late (was out of the office on the road yesterday), but I'm sending some prayers to your family!  :)

Vince is in a great situation now tho. I duno Kent is just a carrer killer lately. If he would ever leave itd be nice to see him go to somewhere a little more stable. Kents been the worst program in country (arguably)for years and years , but if he were to have success there he'd be a hot name on the coaching market.. Darrell Hazel had a nice little run a while back and got him a big time job (Purdue). Although he didn't do so well there, he still got paid.
