Just got home from Salem.  Great to see Skunksidekick, Skunks, and friend.  Also good to see Roocru and some UMHB fans.  Spent the game hanging with a Salisbury poster.  As SSK said it was cold and took away from the tailgating.  As for the game, SSK and I talked before the game and we did not believe that UMHB was going to be able to score enough to win and we were correct.  Mount's D executed a great game plan.  The D line did their job, keep CR3 in the pocket and make him throw the ball.  The linebackers and secondary covered more than well enough and allowed the Dline to get the sacks.  This was basically a 3-0 football game.  The TD should have been ate least knocked down, more than likely should have been intercepted and the safety resulted from #1 trying to make something happen on the kickoff after the TD and giving UMHB poor field position.  Neither offense was able to do much and in the end Fulford made more plays than CR3 did.  I did not notice a huge difference in speed watching the game live.  Mount's D was every bit as good as UMHB's was.  Neither QB throws a very deep long ball, the TD was under 50 yards and Fulford looked to be all out getting it that far and it was with the wind.  These teams are basically even with Mount having an edge on offense.  Fun game to watch for a 3-0 game into the 4th quarter.  Wont make the next 2 Staggs in Texas, but will almost certainly make the trip to Canton when it goes there.  Congrats Mount and fans.  Have a great holiday season and chat with you again next season.

D O.C.

Be sure to make your motel reservations in Shenandoah, Texas, today. Don't delay.

Leading up to the Stagg Bowl there were several post on the MAC.  Yesterday it was announced that former Mount Union star Jason Candle signed a six-year contract that runs through the 2023 and will pay him more than $1 million per year.

The new deal announced yesterday provides Jason with a base salary of $450,00 next season that increases by $25,000 each year, plus additional compensation of $650,000 annually related to sponsorship deals, radio and television shows and speaking engagements. Candle's total compensation makes him the highest paid coach in the MAC.
Fantastic.  Love to see the mount guys get paid.

That td pass was such classic fulford. Throw into a tight window and let an elite receiver bail you out with an amazing catch, been doing it all year. Admittedly not quite that tight of a window normally lol, but you have to give Hill some credit, he has amazing hands.

Surprised about your impression of fulfords arm strengths, I saw him throw some bombs this year and his throws always seem to have a ton of zip. I think he just misjudged that throw since he'd overthrown receivers earlier in the game when he was with the wind.

In the final round of the 2017 OAC Playoff Pick-em, bluestreak66 and theaprof led the way with 15 points, theaprof being the only person to correctly pick UMU to have more sacks. desertcat1 was the master of the side bet, netting 12 of the 20 potential bonus points.

But none could catch firstdown as a solid last week leap-frogged him into the top spot, just ahead of Conventional Wisdom and BillyRayJimBob.  Congratulations to first-time winner firstdown, the 2017 OAC Playoff Pick-em champion!!

Thanks to everyone who played again this year.  Hope it was entertaining.

Fulford is used to throwing deep into warm tropical breezes.  Not gonna happen in Ohio or Virginia this time of year. I hope he can adjust soon. Next season the throwing into double coverage thing is not going to be overlooked or excused. Theres plenty of time and room for growth there. I cant wait for the new commits to start comming in. Qbs might want to commit elsewhere or switch positions. Another Rb or 2 would be nice, especially a Kmic clone. Gonna be needing some Dbacks too. Anybody see any good fits at highschool games this year? Ashland Hs had a Qb that would be great in our system. i dont know if D3 is where he is gonna land but I dont want him in the OAC anywhere but UMU. Lets hear who you would recommend UMU recruit.

Today's weather in Salem:  Perfectly acceptable.

Too bad nobody plays college football on Saturdays.

He's not Nate Kmic and he's not gonna BE Nate Kmic.  But he's certainly ahead of Logan Nemeth at the same age.  That fourth down hit he took and kept going was impressive.

I'd definitely take Logan Nemeth's senior year from Petru The Punisher* in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Another Mount guy rumored to be in line for a significant pay increase is Alex Grinch the current defense coordinator for Washington State who is reported to being interviewed by multiple big schools including Alabama.  However, the latest rumors are predicting Alex brings his 3 national championship rings with him back to Ohio to become  an assistant coach for the Buckeyes.  FBS rule change effect Jan 9th permits teams adding a 10th assistant coach.

Alex's WSU defense has a great reputation for pass defense including defending TE which is something the Buckeyes have been burnt on in recent years. Another positive for Alex going to OSU is that current Buckeye DC Greg Schiano has been a candidate for a FBS head coaching position and more than likely will eventually take a head coaching job.  Alex Grinch is young, talented and part of the Kehres coaching tree which makes him highly sought after.

Kmics dont grow on trees, true, but Nate got overlooked as a Highschooler and UMU benefitted. Wouldnt it be great to find another player just like Nate da Great? They are out there, just not obvious. Beat the bushes. Someone is out there.

Yep:  Mount Union Defense 2, UMHB 0.

What does this even mean?

Mount Union's DEFENSE outscored  UMHB's entire team.  (A safety is worth two points.)

I suspect UMHB's defense outscored entire teams one or more times this past year, as well.
