it's going to stink for Mount to lose the best DL in the nation.  But with pretty much everything else coming back, can Mount be a unanimous preseason #1 in 2018?

MHB had a much better D-line than Mount.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Lakeland kid....don't be silly
Michael Whitley is really, really talented. I believe if he played for Mount, they would have still won the Stagg Bowl. I also believe if that happened and D3football put a kid named Fulford from Lakeland on the AA team ahead of him Mount fans would be saying the same thing they are saying today. In fact, the cries would probably be even louder since this Lakeland Fulford kid is only a freshman.

He knows that, but you know...that's kind of why he posted it.

The best dlip has ever seen at the d3 level...ever.

So in a few days when "the troubles" are over for Fulford in FL, can we ask for a re-do?   ;)

I think stats alone show a discrepancy/head scratcher as to why Fulford wasn't even HM.  The numbers just don't add up no matter how you shuffle them.  In the end, if the young man keeps working, and Mount continues to be Mount, I would guess he is going to garner all kinds of awards before his time at Mount is done.

I feel that the 2015 UMU Dline was quite good. Lally was unstoppable, Vidal, Alarms, Berry and Furda. 47 sacks as a line is awesome and they wreaked havoc on offenses.

They got my vote this July and I assume they'd get mine next July, too.

Pat--You voted UMU #1 in July, but picked against them in the Stagg?

Indeed. But the Stagg isn't played in July.

People talking about the All-American quarterback situation aren't also talking about the fact that he was third in the All-Region voting, which is about 25% D3football.com staff and the rest from SIDs in the region. (And coaches' evaluations considered for offensive linemen.) Burton and Whitley did great things as well this season, with much lesser supporting casts.

Understood. But, what changed your opinion during the course of the season?  I thought that UMU improved during the year.

These regional voters who downgraded Fulford must have been such good kids when they were 17, 18, and 19.  I guess none of them even got a speeding ticket?  None were ever even alleged to have done anything wrong. No underage alcohol, no weed , no academic mistakes, no problems with teachers, coaches , or girls. NONE.  Wow. What pristine lives they led, or maybe they were just lucky and didn't get caught. They were just super smart and super mature those years. Either that or they are the worst kind of hypocrites. The choices made for All American and All Region quarterbacks, in the face of Fulford's year, have no credibility.
And another thing, The AFCA team is by far the most prestigious of the All American teams. One set of players, not everyone gets a prize, simply the best. Cole Parrish was selected as a starting offensive lineman. Lots of great players weren't, by the group selected by their peers to choose.
I'll shut up now.

Whoa!  Thanks dlip!

And the TD catch WAS skill.  To follow the ball thru the outstretched arm and the deflection off the helmet?  Pure skill!

Wasn't that game fun!

Yeah, best team won!  How about best 6 out of 11!?!

The thing with Fulford is going to tick more than a few Mount posters off and I get that. But the regional voters account for a bit - as Pat stated. I think the regional voters may have been influenced by his "news" but also by those round him and I am sure they watched tape (granted tape doesn't exist). I think Fulford's numbers were more a product of Hill, Ruth and Friss. The lakeland kid etc. didn't have that and maybe that played a part as well. I think if you ask Fulford if he had to pick between AA and National Champion - h would be just fine with the way it worked out. And maybe it motivates him to work on a few things in the off season. Things like: It's ok to hit the check down to the RB; It's ok to hit the crossing routes and not go deep; It's ok to throw to another guy who is probably wide open since Hill has  Safety, a Corner and a hybrid-LB all around him.

I know he only threw 2 picks in regular season against what 43TDs? But against the 2 best defenses his numbers were  2tds and 3 INTs. I just think he has some room to grow. And don't compare him to Bill Borchert - he lit up EVERYBODY (playoffs included).

Truth, Ralph.

Ask any ballers who played before stick 'em was even a thing. Those gloves with little rubber nubs make ALL the difference in today's game. Never seen so many one handed catches as I have this season.

There are two teams of players on the AFCA team.

Thought I would post this here since UMU is likely to be in TX next December for the Stagg Bowl. I drove by the stadium yesterday and will give the advice early that getting there early will be required to avoid the awful traffic in Houston.  Don't worry, there is a Hooters about a block from the stadium so if anyone needs me that day, I'll be there.  Looking forward to seeing the Stage Bowl in 2018.

Very good point Desert. All I know is that if the biggest uproar on this board is about our championship qb getting snubbed an AA award, UMU football is in a very good place  ;D

Awful is an understatement. Houston is such a bizarre city. You enter the outskirts of Houston and then drive for another 90 minutes but you still haven't reached the city proper yet. Very much sprawling.
