One more thing for now... looking forward to next season, I didn't realize Rose-Hulman was pretty solid the last 5 years.
2013 7-3 co HCAC champs
2014 7-3 4th
2015 8-2 2nd
2016 8-3 co HCAC champs
2017 8-2 2nd

Not sure what they bring back, but they should be better than NC Wesleyan.

Mount doesn't schedule anybody.

hopefully Mount's SOS will improve next year, but it looks like home games through the semi's once again!

btw, Happy New Year D3!  Mount is going to roll right through you all next year

Just thinking back to the UMHB game, UMU defense was outstanding! I had friends worried about playing them again and I told them I wasn't as worried not only because of the revenge factor and playing for a championship, but because of Coach Pete. He's a very good coach, but he gets way too conservative in big games (something We complain about sometimes) when it matters and doesn't trust his players to make plays. UMHB never really opened up their offense during the playoffs. I think he didn't trust his freshman QB and trusted in his D and special teams too much. VK and players were quoted as saying that they were very prepared for UMHB offense.

My point is this... I won't complain again when UMU is in the playoffs and scoring points while running their offense against quality defenses. If you want to win championships, you've got to know what you can run against quality teams. People have complained in the past about UMU running up the score and I used to feel for some teams, but it's going to be hard to make me feel sorry for other teams anymore after watching UWO let off the pedal and allow UMU to take the semifinal game from them.

I'm excited for what the next year will bring for the Raiders!

The regular season against an outmatch Muskingum or Wilmington is one thing, but in my opinion, there's no such thing as running up the score in the playoffs.

I guess I didn't stress enough about doing this against quality defenses. This year I would've considered BW and JCU the only regular season quality defenses.

Just curious...

I have been aware of the Salem (VA) High School Spartans' football success from my early 2000s days in the Air Force down in southeast Virginia, and also from attending Stagg Bowls at Salem Stadium.  This year, I noted the signage at the stadium ... State Runner-up in 2014, and State Champions in 2015 and 2016.  The stadium scoreboard marquee advertised their 2017 State Championship, as was also mentioned by Mr. Harveycutter during Pat's podcast following the game.

My question is, have any Salem High School, or greater Roanoke high school, football players matriculated to Mount Union or another Stagg Bowl participant due to their participation and/or success during these past 25 years?  I would like to think that Mount Union's, and even UW-Whitewater's, participation and dominance during the last 10-12 years could have gotten some local attention.  I would like to think that the opportunity to come back home and play on a bigger stage for a national championship, possibly for one or more years, would be attractive to some of the local football talent.

Again, just curious (and a tip of my flight cap to those of you who know the rosters over the years, both inside and out)...

I can't remember any Salem kids at Mount, but there was a tall WR from Roanoke a couple years back.  I think he ended up transferring out to E&H(?) after a year or two

Of course, a great big Happy New Year to everyone in the OAC. OK, OK, even our JCU posters. (You guys do know I'm kidding?)
Would really like to see a strong conference this year. Let's get back to where we were a few years ago. Best to all the teams. Have fun, play hard, stay healthy. See you in September or October or .............
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

Looks like there is a good chance that the rich might get richer. I've see multiple reports of UMU making offers to a lot of outstanding atheletes. Not sure how many will sign, but there seems to be many from Florida. I've seen tweets of Fulford encouraging players to follow him up north to UMU.

Wining the 13th National Championships surely also helps a lot.  Vince with his two Nation Championships under his belt helps sell recruits that the impressive run is far from over and that they can be part of it as well.

Superior organizations with superior coaches attract superior talent.

Teams that go far in the playoffs get the advantages of all those additional weeks of practices that helps with the development of their younger players.  Any adversity these elite teams face especially in the playoffs helps build strong character in the key players which become great role models for younger players.

Matt Campbell finished an impressive season with winning the Liberty Bowl.

Congratulations Matt.

It's funny, because if Mount loses to Oshkosh the narrstive is entirely different. 2016 loss in the regular season, no stagg appearance, 2017 loss in the semifinals... is the dynasty over? But now it looks like Mount is as dominant as ever and in position to repeat or maybe threepeat

I've been following twitter as well and to me it's 50/50 on some really talented guys. They're doing what they need to do, and that is go out of state for guys that were overlooked. I just feel that so often D1-2 HS players from NEO aren't sticking around. There are some very talented local players who could've played, but aren't willing to wait in the JV team or wait behind guys in the depth chart. Obviously it's not hurting UMU, but are guys just used to playing for a big school and crowds and are used to the HS glory? I guess that seems to be 50/50 as well with guys that are big school players that play at Mount (Dear, Robinson, Ford, Todd, White)  vs those that don't stay with the program.

You're totally right on the thought of a loss to Oshkosh makes everyone question the state of the program. It would've been a rough offseason. To go from the near loss in the semifinals to winning the whole thing is a great turnaround psychologically for coaches, players and recruiting.
