Also just read that Tadas Tatarunas, QB from Mentor, has 1 D2 offer from Walsh. That would stink for Davis to be put behind another guy again. He has a preferred walk on offer from OSU and FCS offers from Albany and Robert Morris. I heard a rumor during the season that Mount was in contact with him and shocked we even had a chance. Kid would start next year as a freshman IMO!

Robert Morris and Albany are in a limited scholarship conference, so those should probably viewed more like d2 offers. I doubt he'd start at Mount, let alone pass up Poorman on the depth chart.

he'd be a nice JR option at QB in 2020 with a SR Petro at RB behind him.  He's got D1 measurables, but something seems to be missing.  I saw him take on Massillon twice and he is a good QB, but I just don't see D1.

Yeah I mean my point was more that just being a low level d1 prospect guy doesn't automatically make you starter caliber at Mount. Piloto was an FBS transfer and clearly had the measurable but he still split time with seaman and eventually lost the job to Burke.

I get that, but the games I've seen him play he was throwing the call around like he was on the playground. This past year he was quite good after an ok junior year.
I like Fulford, but the one thing he really needs to work on is looking off of the safeties or his intended receivers. He'll get better, I know he will.

you are right.  But how dare you bring up the dark era of Mount QB's.  We don't talk about that anymore.  With a typical Mount QB in place of Seaman or Piloto who knows how many rings LK would have won

I don't wanna hear any "but Alabama would crush Mount Union" - not on this site. But in terms of the article Im'a gonna say "Bu11$H1T"

Roll Raiders ~ Roll!!

I think North Dakota State fans might have a bone to pick with that claim as well

Who do we Purple Raider fans root for?  NDSU to end JMU's win streak? or JMU instead of NDSU's dynasty?

We are currently tied with NDSU for most NCAA Football championships, I vote JMU... even though I usually root for the Missouri valley conference because I'm a Youngstown State fan. I'm not as concerned with JMU Breaking our win streak, they open up next year against an ACC team

what a game today

That game was awesome! Too bad JMU turned it over in the red zone a couple of times. I guess to me it seems like in the games I watch, D1 isn't as much fun to watch because there's so many prima donas. Those guys player they're hearts out!

What's sad is that Mount didn't even need a typical Mount QB, just a healthy Seaman.  Even as average as he was, they'd have won with him at QB instead of Piloto.

Piloto to reminds me of Ornstein from Rowan.  All the measurables but nothing between the ears.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

If I remember correctly, Piloto was a walk on at USF. Not a scholarship type FBS QB.

Correct, so I guess it's not a perfect comparison. Aparrently he did have interest from some d2s out of high school as well though http://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20090605/piloto-switches-to-mount-union

I've been seeing a lot of tweets about "offers" from Mount and kids committing to Mount.  I'm wondering how many D3 programs have a Recruiting Coach/Coordinator without any other coaching duties like Mount?

I wish Dom the beast of luck. I know for a fact Coach Jerry Faust was advocating he transfer to another school and his family were upset at his prospects at Mount. The young man is a honor student and will someday be referred to as Dr. Dom Davis, M.D.
Dom did a great job for the Purples. It's amazing he could take the team to a National semi final as a true freshman, and win three games against good teams on the road. There have been very few freshman quarterbacks who ever even saw the field or were remotely capable at that position at Mount Union. I wish him the best. He was one hell of a player for us and I am sure he will be a fine representative of Walsh University.

Dr. Acula

I think the Dom Davis situation simultaneously illustrates two keys to Mount's sustained success:

1.  Best guy plays.  Every starter earns his spot every week and that is understood.  If someone is outperforming you then he plays ahead of you.  Unfortunately for Dom in the eyes of the coaching staff Fulford and Poorman were performing better than him.  It sucks for him, but only one QB starts.

2.  Next man up.  This year Trey Williams steps in for Dear.  Brish steps in for Groves.  And the expectation is there will be no gaping hole, no major fall off.  You step in and step up.  Dom did that last year as a freshman and that will never cease to be impressive and worthy of our respect.

I wish him the best of luck at Walsh.  I hope he wins the job and lights it up.  I'm also glad his parents/family will still be close by and able to watch him play.

I saw a few of these as well.  I assumed it meant they'd applied and Mount told them "hey, you've been accepted and we want you to come play for us."  I couldn't think of what else an "offer" could mean in the D3 landscape.

In other twiiter related news I saw that Justin Hill was tweeting with CS3 about working out with him and Jasper Collins in the off season.  Not a bad duo for Hill to work out with.  I'm sure Cecil is busting his butt trying to get back to 100%.

Well put! The more successful Dom is in D2 the more impressive it makes Mount Unions program look. If a former Mount Union 3rd/4th stronger can win a starting job in d2 how good must our other QBs be?

I can just imagine the coaches pitch to a top prospect. "Don't be dissuaded by the fact that we're d3, there are guys in d2 who wouldn't get playing time here, in fact one of the qbs on our depth chart transfered out and in is a starter at a d2 school."

High school kids won't know that Walsh's programs is a dumpster fire, but I'm sure they'll pay attention to a pitch like that!
