Talked with Dean Frazier yesterday, his son chose JCU for a few reasons other than that his father is Dean at Mount.
He will play wide receiver for JCU not QB.

There are some advantages to living out your college days on a campus other than one on which your dad holds a high profile position.

no joke.  Your dad as the dean?   no thanks.  I'd take losing to your "rival" for four years straight too

Dr. Acula

Had he gone to Mount the first time he heard something like "your actions reflect on me" he'd be rolling his eyes thinking "Damn, I shoulda went to JCU."  College kids need a little freedom to act like college kids.  He made the right choice.

that'd be a first, especially if it happened between Aug - Dec

Yeah, I mean...who on earth would choose a Division III school for any reason other than how good the football team is?

I agree, that shouldn't be the only reason for a student choosing a D3 school.

Until job hunting season begins  ;)
(In all seriousness, I kid. Don't hate me Mount folk!)

It is kind of surprising he didn't direct his son somewhere out of the conference though, like Wittenberg or something. It's one thing not going to the school where your father is the dean. It's another thing picking the closest thing your father's school has to a rival in the conference.

I would imagine there may be some awkward holidays at the Frazier household lol

I don't know--Dean Frazier went to Heidelberg, is now at UMU and his son is going to JCU.  I think they're just trying to take over the entire OAC! ;)

Feel free to use my favorite joke.  Anytime I hear that someone is going to Mount or BW, I reply "I am so sorry to hear that you couldn't get into John Carroll."  It usually gets a laugh since most OAC schools take just about anyone that applies.

My favorite dig at me from a Notre Dame friend:  "Not everyone gets into John Carroll.  You have to apply first."

Must not have taught you how to use Spell/Grammar Check at JCU.  ;)

Eh... The acceptance rate for most of the OAC schools is in the 70s. That's not exactly selective, but there are more than a few DIII schools that top out in the lower 90s. That's when you are really pushing the envelope.

Ha. Spell check/grammar check in my day was a slow typewriter, a pack of those white-out strips and . . if you were VERY lucky . . . a pretty girl who was an English major.

get ready JCU folks, your ol' buddy Purp...MerleCanlas was accepted into JCU, but chose Mount.  Imagine all the fun we could have had losing to Mount almost every year together.

We have a player on Mount Union's basketball team this year named John Carroll--he even spells it the same as the school.
