We have a player on Mount Union's basketball team this year named John Carroll--he even spells it the same as the school.

He went to the wrong school...

get ready JCU folks, your ol' buddy Purp...MerleCanlas was accepted into JCU, but chose Mount.  Imagine all the fun we could have had losing to Mount almost every year together.

You know what they say merl. You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain

And the important word there is almost. We are the only one's who can at least use that word...

I kind of agree.  Your jersey has your name on the front and back.  Every piece of apparel has your name on it, imagine the stories that you could feed to young co-eds each year.  John Carroll at John Carroll University is too perfect.

Is JCU looking to replace both coordinators this year?  The reason I say that is they just announced a new DC coordinator.  The one from last year went to Texas State and the new guy is from Iowa State . Plus the OC from last year is not listed on the 2018 season coaches list.  Any thoughts on why the turnover?  Was it because they underperformed?

Back when I was in school (2002-06) there was a basketball player at Baldwin Wallace named John Carroll.

I am not sure.  Michael Switzer's Twitter account still lists him as JCU's offensive coordinator and he was fairly active on that account until mid to late January but it has been silent since then:

https://twitter.com/MichaelSwitzer

That said, you are correct that he is not listed on the coaches page: http://www.jcusports.com/coaches.aspx?path=football&
But I do not see any news anywhere of him moving to another position.  In short, beats me.

As for the defensive coordinator, Kyle Hoke, moving to Texas State, I think that is a promotion as he will be a coach at the D1 level -- not a GA or an analyst.  I doubt he was forced out but someone could have more information.

Onward on, John Carroll

Time for a little pre-signing day Mount Union recruiting note. As many of you know, this isn't end all be all, but I like to keep track and a running list for those interested. Many guys will start "committing" to D3 schools soon when they find out that there is no more athletic money being offered by D2s. I'm by no means an expert, but I'll give my 2 cents as well if I have something.

Karrson Ewing DL Pittsburgh, PA (big and quick off the edge)
Jake Dahlinger C/G Olmstead Falls, OH (big, plays nasty and smart-33 ACT)
Christian Szalay WR Wadsworth, OH (good hands and routes)
David Wilson RB Southfield, MI
Christ Knight DB Jacksonville Beach, FL (active on D, almost Brian Groves clone but a little quicker. Also seems to be actively recruiting on twitter for UMU!)
Mitchell Seavolt LB/LS Leslie,MI (solid tackler)
Juanito Gonzalez DL Cantonment, FL ( big and strong, finishes well)
Rodelson Petit DL Jacksonville, FL (quick first step, strong quick hands)
Jamari Laster DB Del Ray, FL (quick, ball hawk)
Jordan Joseph RB West Carrollton, OH
AJ Mendoza WR Coconut Creek, FL (Luc Meachum like player, long strider, great hands and makes plays)

There are a couple who initially said they were going to come to UMU, but have since backed away. It seems that as soon as Mount shows interest, these guys are getting "offers" from JCU, BW, ONU or UMHB. Finally, schools are catching on.....haha

I'll keep watching.

Jose Klein OL Hohenwald, TN
Brandon Sharp WR/RB Hohenwald, TN
Shane Tomlin LS St Clairsville, OH
Micangelo Joseph WR Delray Beach, FL (great hands and route runner)
Cole Pittman LB West Branch, Oh (very nice tackler)
Jacorey Washington DL Broward, FL
Chandler Holloway WR Commerce, MI
Nate Goralski WR/RB Romeo, MI
Dontae Beckett QB/RB Elyria, OH
Nathaniel Mitchell LB West Catholic, MI
Tristan Arno RB Elyria, OH
John Valentine OL Ashland, OH (lots of power and nasty streak)
Carson Korvath LB/SS Novi, MI (good tackler)
Trinten Gray RB Miramar, FL
Thomas Bradshaw FB Hollywood, FL
Kevon Kenebrew OL Houston, TX (good feet and strength)
Tarique Livingston OL Lauderdale Lakes, FL
Diante Lesperance DB Huber Heights Wayne, OH (good athlete)
Kijah Kelly WR/DB Tampa, FL
Doug Koury OL Manchester, MO
Bailey Douglas DE Flint, MI
Regino Alexis DE West Palm Beach, FL
Braxston Presley WR Gainesville, FL
To'kosh Wheeler DT Dallas, TX (instinctual)
Andrew Meyer OL Brighton, MI (very solid)
Chad Keirnan OL Ft. Lauderdale, FL (started at STA, one of best football schools in country...very solid lineman)
Edwin Reed WR Miami, FL (go find his hudl highlight...wow can he catch the football when guarded and in traffic. Very nice player)
Ezekiel Tulloch RB Joliet, IL ( this kid can make plays with the football in his hand!)

Notes....no true QB yet (IMO) and bringing in a good group of defensive linemen for sure!
Mount had another player transfer up to Slippery Rock. Ahmed Morris Walker was at UMU last year.
