Digby broke a record in the 400m that was set in 1966 by the great Nate Hawthorne.

Then helps set a championship meet record running a 44.7 split chasing down the kid from Wesley in the anchor leg to win the 4x400 (and the team title).  I got goosebumps watching Digby pass him right at the finish then collapse to his knees.  That kid's will to win is incredible.

Awesome race and finish. UMU coming from behind again.
Congrats to the team.

Sir Battlescars

Here's a link for Heidelberg's 2018 Schedule. Homecoming is Oct. 27th vs. Muskingum, Hopefully Coach Shank makes the trip to Tiffin, it would be great to see him at the Berg again.

For reference, their time of 3:08.10 would have finished 3rd in the B1G championship meet edging out Minnesota.  Digby's winning 400 time would have been 4th in the B1G.  Not too bad.

As a matter of fact they ran against a number of d1 teams at the Jesse Owens classic this year. Mounts team took second place in the 4x400 beating  central Michigan, Kent state, Miami (Ohio) and one of Ohio states 2 relay teams that ran in the meet.

Mt should move up to D1 in track.

Bill Borchert nominated for The College Football Hall of Fame for the 3rd consecutive year. Damn, I hope he makes it. Stories in The Alliance Review and the Canton Repository today.
How are these numbers:
         14,482 passing yards
              189 passing touchdowns
          15308 yards of total offense
              200 total touchdowns

In 1997, he threw 63 touchdown passes, won the Gagliardi and won a national championship. He also won the national championship in 1996. Mount Union went 50-3 during his career and won 4 OAC titles.
He deserves to join Mount Union quarterback Jim Ballard who is already in the Hall. And, don't forget, Larry Kehres is in there too.
Good luck Bill. ☠🏈
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

I have only have one word: WOW.  He'd be in if I were voting.

HScoach

He was a stud.  Best QB to play at Mount.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

He played in 2 Stagg Bowls.  Went 2-0 with 916 yards and 13 passing TD in those games.  He was a surgeon out there.

Thanks for those last stats for the Stagg Bowl! Very impressive. I should have put them in. ☠🏈

I think the low number of interceptions during his career were also insanely low.

Good mention of the ridiculously low interception rate he had. I remember 1 year he only had 2.
I didn't do a thorough enough job in my post. Thanks all you guys for your add-ons.
Can I give myself a -k? Several other people seem to be doing it! In spite of my ineptness, (by omission of certain key facts), at least the word is out on Borchert. ☠🏈

Dr. Acula

The most impressive part about the low number of interceptions was that he threw the ball a lot AND he threw the ball down field a lot.  He had the best touch on deep balls I've ever seen in D3.  The number of times he'd drop it in Knestrick's hands full stride was incredible.

I dont think anyone that ever saw Bill in action would withhold their votes. And thats the problem. How many of the voters ever saw him play? His stats are so good that the voters probably chalk it up to weak competition. The voters should be required to view his tapes in their entirety. You talk about a body of work! Hes got one!😬 i can see not wanting to put two Raiders in the same year, but come on now, its overdue IMHO. Maybe we should lobby the voters. Or publicly shame them if they fail to recognize his accomplishments again.
