It was a great list you posted. Makes it available to anyone. It has to be a partial list. If you knew every name that should be on the list, you would be sitting on the mountain top and would have the answers to every question in the universe. Good job! ☠🏈

Since it's the off-season, and we don't have much to talk about, I'll pose a question.
What ever happened to "Merle"? Is he locked up? Has he left the country? Is he in a place for those people that, let's say, need help? Could he be posting under an alias?
Where in the world is "Merle"? Any info will be held in the strictest confidence. Just post it on this board. Thank you for your consideration. ☠🏈🤔

Some of you may recall the fanfare, even glee, certain media outlets reported the arrest of , "a former Mount Union football player"  on multiple Rape charges in 2017 in Alliance. Turns out the young man was innocent of all those offenses. The Stark County Grand Jury declined to indict the boy on two of the Rape charges and dismissed those two cases. The remaining charge was indicted as a lesser offense, but the prosecutors dismissed that charge as well this week. Turns out he was innocent. Much Ado About Nothing.
In a separate case involving him, jury selection began last week. The case involved his possessing marijuana and attempting to flush it down the toilet when police arrived. Jury selection was remarkable. Twelve jurors openly stated they felt prosecution involving small amounts of pot was a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money and criminal justice resources. They were excused. Finally, the State reduced the charges and agreed the young man should not serve jail time.
Now 23 , the young man wants to return to school somewhere and play football.

Glad you pointed that out. Big story in today's Alliance Review and The Canton Repository. NO JAIL TIME. Good job, purple! ☠🏈

Since I was not involved in the situation I have no idea whether he was innocent or not but I think saying that he was "innocent", based on the newspaper article, is a bit of a stretch--re-read the article--I'm attaching the pertinent quote:

"Kristen Mlinar, an assistant Stark County prosecutor, said the woman who accused Hargrove of sexual battery no longer wanted to pursue prosecution and undergo the trauma of testifying. The woman had been a Mount Union student when she told police in 2017 that Hargrove assaulted her off campus while she was intoxicated, according to court records.

"The victim did not want to go forward anymore," Mlinar said. "She wanted it behind her. She just wanted to move on with her life."

That is not the same as innocent--it just means that he isn't being prosecuted--big difference.

There are passionate Mount Union supporters who don't check their objectivity at the stadium gates.  HSCoach springs immediately to mind but there are a number of others.

Unfortunately, Purple isn't one of those others.

Just in case someone missed the D III championship game last year I found a schedule on ESPN U on July 2@5 PM for a replay. I happened to be awake last Thursday night at 2am and saw the last 25 minutes of the game. Enjoy!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

theaprof said it best. Not being prosecuted is not the same as innocent. I applaud the fact that "purple" brought up the story. Saying he was innocent is wrong. No jail time is a fact.
Edward, objectivity comes from many directions. Oh well, Go Raiders!

Based on Purple's past posts and the like, I just figure I should point that we were not among those media outlets. :)

I am very surprised. Surely you gentlemen believe in the presumption of innocence. This is much more than a catchy phrase. It is what separates our system of justice from all others, and is the bedrock Constitutional Right we fortunate Americans enjoy. He came out no worse than he went in. He was accused. He was presumed innocent upon his plea of Not Guilty. The charges were dismissed. I bet if one of your friends or loved ones came to you and said they were innocent you would believe them.  Would you presume them innocent?  Or would you say to them , "Sure kid, ain't we all."  I am astonished. How sad none of you would be able to sit on a jury. You just don't believe in the presumption of innocence. It's just a saying to you.

What can the Prosecutor say? Should she criticize the police Detective who investigated the case?  What proof there was that justified charging three counts of Rape?  Maybe explain why the last of the three got Indicted at all if the alleged victim was wavering. Maybe, just maybe, defense counsel called the State's bluff. Maybe she was lying all along? The alleged victim is a witness; not the State, or the representative of the State. She doesn't get to make the call if the case is prosecuted. She doesn't get to decide if she wants to come testify or not. Period. The Prosecutor does. Period. It's the oldest dodge in the book. Just this time the State is using it. It's called  "blame it on the victim." Looks like there is enough egg on the faces of the police detective and the prosecutor to make an omelet for twelve.

I know nothing about the details of the case and am not commenting on the details of the case.  I am merely pointing out that you have never given the appearance of being a dispassionate observer of Mount Union football, especially when it comes to legal issues.

Passionate?  Yes.  Dispassionate? No.

You have receipts?  Because I don't think any media reports on sexual assault with fanfare or glee.
