It didn't take long for real.  Via Saturday Tradition Andrew Perloff of SI says "Multiple rumors hitting us that Iowa State coach Matt Campbell would be the frontrunner for the Ohio State job if it became open."

Heck, what about Vince Kehres? He seems to be pretty good at ignoring legal and character issues... He'll probably fit in great at The Ohio State University.

The first question Campbell is asked prior to their first practice is of course the OSU question.  He side stepped that one very expertly.

If Matt Campbell were interested in the job, I wonder what that assistant coaching staff might consist of? Would anyone welcome the scrutiny of their home life, or take a pass? Contract violation be damned. The wrong guy got punished for someone elses sins. And Terelle Pryor is still unscathed. No justice.

Sorry but the right guy got punished - he got fired. But Urb doesn't get a free pass and he shouldn't. Talk radio is blowing up on this one with the OSU homers. But these are the same people that so easily vilified JoePa in the Sandusky scandal. Now that it hits closer to home - 'oh Urban didn't hit her so he didn't do anything wrong'. I am not comparing what Sandusky did to what Zach Smith did - sex with kids is WRONG and ILLEGAL and just plain EVIL. But ya know what - hitting your wife (or any woman) is WRONG and ILLEGAL and just plain EVIL. If JoePA knew and didn't report it (not to police but to the AD or anyone above him) then he got what was coming. If Urb knew (if he saw one text message from his wife, or one picture) and he didn't report it to someone above him - then he should go. Is it the HC job to make sure the people on his staff are not abusing kids, abusing drugs, abusing their spouses - hell yes it is.

I do agree with one thing - Terrelle Pryor is unscathed. Most of the time it involves a student in the violations the student is unscathed. The student is the kid - the Coach is the adult. The adult should know better - and when they don't, or when they do and do nothing, they get fired. That is why I don't understand some of the decisions guys like Art Briles, or Tress, or Urban have made in the past. When the quest for the win makes you blind to the transgressions overlooked to obtain it - it's time to go. Negative K away. I will happily take them for this.

Meyer released a statement that he reported the incident to the proper authorities when it happened.  Does this give him an out?  If they do fire him, and I don't think that will happen, they would keep the interim all season, IMO.
If Meyer did report and it wasn't addressed there are two concerns. First, the person he reported to could be the one axed. Two, why did he not fire the guy then?

If Tressels firing was justified then how could he possibly he hireable at YSU? Especially as the college president?. He was in violation of his contract per se, but Terelle Pryor was the punk who got the whole rigamarole started. When does he come to justice? If I slap my wife can I get my boss fired too? I wonder whats in his contract? This whole issue stinks. Fire Urban  IF he abuses his wife. Since when does Gene Smith trump the laws authority in these issues? We need to rethink and improve this system so the wrongdoers dont hurt anyone else but themselves. Colateral damage sucks.

If Urban reported it and both he and the AD took no action - then both could get axed. Look OSU is a public institution and in a competitive climate for students, donors, sponsors, TV contracts (and the networks sponsors). Ignoring it isn't an option. Once sponsors and donors start speaking out or threatening to pull $$ - wins and losses don't matter (as much). Section13 - I don't know what you do or where you work but I think you are comparing apples and oranges. Does Urban have a legal obligation to report to police - no. Does he have a moral obligation to his players and the University to do whats right - yes. Does he have a contractual obligation - on that we will see. But Urb is the same guy that speaks so glowingly of morals and values and family, and honesty and integrity and faith - all easily searchable. How can he do that and then continue to employ this guy who beats the crap out of his wife? Thta sends a great message to his daughter - who I believe is dating a football coach. Its long but the 10:30 mark to end is the meat. Is this just a bunch of crap or does he mean it? How do you mean if you don't practice it? Even if he did report it - why was the guy still employed?
