meh, graduated a bunch, kinda expecting a 5-5 year, but if we did better than that, that'd be great ;D

Sir Battlescars

What a great comeback by the Berg! Great to see that young team keep fighting.

Olivet is solid. They may win the MIAA.

I know this board is usually all Heidelberg, all the time . . .  ;) . . . but if anyone could post a scouting report on Mount Union's QB Keeney and RB McFadden I'd be much obliged.

Thankee.

So odd for there to be a gameday here and not have 15-20 post analyzing Mount's 50+ point blowouts  ;D  Weird to see all these night games though

Keeney and Mcfadden looked good. They really did. Kenney was confident threw some nice balls and led them on a scoring drive in the 4th with some 1's still in for RHIT. McFadden runs strong. No dancing or giving yards to get yards. Straight ahead with a cut to the hole.

Now to please BergAlum with some analysis (sorry I was at the game). Mount O was sloppy in the first half. I know the final...but they were sloppy. Look at Fulford's numbers - 17 of 27. He was long 3x to Hill who had 3 steps on the DB. All of them were TDs. His passes looked different this year. Less air and touch, more straight line delivery. As a result he went long on a few and missed some scores. The Oline needs work. They had a good third quarter, looked like maybe a butt ripping at half time opened some eyes. But in the first half - RHIT got pressure and was in the backfield more than I expected.

Mounts D - Wow. The DBs were everywhere. The stats on RHIT passing were all about the DBs. The LBs  - especially Williams (43) showed no drop off from last years group. #43 hit the RHIT RB in the hole at the thighs - popped his legs out and sent him parallel to the ground backwards 5 yards. The Dline was suffocating. The D gave up 2 runs on 1 drive (one for 32 yards) but then stuffed RHIT on a goal line stand. Think about that...32 yards on 1 run and RHIT had 80 yards rushing total on the day.

The stat of the night was penalties. Mount was flagged 12x for 118 yards in penalties and RHIT had 107 yards total offense. RHIT had 8 total first downs and 3 were gift wrapped as a result of penalties. Way too many moving forward and I am sure it will be addressed in practice. All in all it was a win - but the starters played 3 quarters (a full 3) in the opener. Normally they are rotating out after the first or second series in the 3rd. Mount has work to do before jcu week.

I was disappointed with RHIT. I get the new rules to address safety and I understand the reason for them (not like the Mount fans - uncovered side - who kept yelling "*ussies" every time RHIT fair caught a punt or kickoff) but I still believe that if you want to win the game you have to use the faircatch when it is needed not as the default. Every time the ball left the punters foot - RHIT was waiving for the faircatch. Not even looking at coverage. Same on kickoffs except I believe 1 in the first quarter. RHIT played like a team that was intimidated the moment they stepped off the bus and like they had no shot. This is a team that has gone 38-13 since 2013? This is a favorite to win their conference this year? Wow. Not impressed.

Conversation with 2 RHIT fans before the game:
Fan1: "Did you guys win it all last year"?
Me: Yep. (It was a short answer not out of cockiness but because I have a hard time talking to "random" people)
Fan2: Well only because you guys always play the same team.
Me: What do you mean?
Fan1: You always play Whitewater.
Me: We haven't played Whitewater in the Stagg since 2014. We beat UMHB.
Fan2: Oh right the girls school in Texas.

At that point I walked away hoping for a beatdown. Sorry for the length but I had to make sure I made up for the absence of in game analysis BergAlum has come to depend and rely upon. ;D ;D

Keeney looked confident and able to step in if needed.  McFadden may have earned more playing time. He looked fast and elusive, a very good performance.  I think the D is national championship caliber, however the O line looked very mediocre.  They have a lot of work to do.  It appeared to me that they had real problems with pass protection and were not the usual smooth unit that we are used to.  Typical first game with a lot of mistakes and penalties.  I also thought Rose Hulman got in the endzone on fourth down on the first and goal series.

After attending the Raiders first game, a few thoughts:

- The defense was great for the first game, LB's and secondary made great plays all night. Defenses are most always
ahead of the offenses at the start of the season.

- The offense was not sharp overall, execution and timing were off, the best part of the offense for this game was running the
ball with several ball carriers. The Raiders have some up and coming talent going forward and over a long season will need
   that from time to time.

- The passing game was really off, missed throws, just not crisp as usual, but will come over the next games

- Penalties for the first game are normal, but 12 for over 100 yards just kills any momentum. I thought some of the call were
questionable, but corrections are needed  for upcoming BW and JCU.

- Rose- Holman was not a bad team, but could not execute, too many 3 and outs, and though a big team they lacked overall
team speed which became more obvious as th game wore on.

- The  Raider line play was not that good, key lineman Frazier out for awhile and the had some impact.

Although the game was never in doubt, IMHO, the Raiders need to work on several offensive areas.

FWIW. Good summary of the game. Some of you guys do a much better job than I do on post-game analysis. Mount has a couple weeks to study film and work out some kinks in practices. I think they'll be OK! Next two games are BW and JCU. Good tests. Go Raiders! ☠🏈

Looks like the OAC went 9-1 in the 1st week with only Capital losing. Hey, this conference isn't all bad!
And Wilmington and Marietta both won. Could these teams be challenging for a national championship? Damn, I love it when that happens!
Go OAC and Go Raiders! Wait, why not, Go Everybody! ☠🏈

I'm really glad we have the off week and then Otterbein before mount. We might need all the time we can get. There were times at Stevens point that we looked like we could knock mount off, and other times we looked like we could lose by 40. Honestly, I hope they co-prepare for mount and Otterbein the next two weeks  to give them three weeks to get ready! I'm not sure they need to spend two weeks preparing for Otterbein
