Howdy OAC Gang!

I am a little surprised that Marietta didn't vault into the top 25.  I mean yes they lost, but they played JCU down to the wire.  Is that an indictment from the voters who think JCU isn't really that good?  Or, is it just the fact that they lost, so voters weren't going to move them up that high?

At least there is now one "interesting" game left on Mount's schedule.  It will be more so if Marietta only has that one loss when the face Mount.  Lots of playoff seeding/deciding to happen in the next three weeks.  I will be watching from afar, and getting ready for the playoff run.

I think vaulting after a loss is something that really only happens when you play one of the super elite teams. At the moment, it's a second-hand connection to Mount Union. Going from 3 points to 9 isn't much, but they did get one from me.

Is Marietta that good, or did JCU come out flat?  Would be interested to hear from those who may have witnessed.

I watched a decent part of the game. It seemed like a little of both. The real question is did John Carroll play poorly due to their own fault, or did Marietta cause them to play that way? I will be very interested to see Marietta vs. B-Dubs this weekend. I think that will give a clear picture as to what the Pios actually are!

Of course it's possible.  They just need all of the CCIW runners up to finish with two or more losses, probably need the Bethel/St. Thomas winner to lose a second game, CWRU to lose a second game, HSU to lose, Salisbury to lose two or three times, Oshkosh to lose, probably need Central to lose again, will definitely need Muhlenberg to win the CC, would help if Cortland lost twice more, Centre is going to have lose a second game, and hope Misericordia and Kalamazoo come back to reality.  The Pioneers totally have a shot.

You have a way of telling it like it is. Wow. So the Pioneers DO have a shot. Right.

Wally with his usual acerbic, D-III play-off all knowing response!  Well done sir!   ;)

Unless the next three weeks create havoc that hasn't been seen since say OSU lost to Pur....oh wait...umm...OSU lost to Iow....no wait.....Urban lie....no not that...ummm.......   :-X 8-)

I am guessing no 8-2 team is getting in via Pool C this year.

BW is currently a non-ranked team.  Assuming JCU and BW are both undefeated going into week 11, would a BW victory be enough to propel them into the playoffs.

Jokes aside, the point was that there's a looong line of teams queuing up for 5 Pool C bids.  Two losses isn't an automatic disqualifier, but two losses without any really good wins probably is.  Even if Marietta somehow manages a close game with Mount Union and even if that "result" carries a bunch of positive inertia for Marietta, it's hard to see (right now) how they'd be one of the five teams that gets picked.

The last time the OAC sent a 2-loss team (ONU in...2015?) ONU was the top ranked at-large team in the North.  Under the proposed hypothetical, Marietta is still sitting behind JCU, meaning they have to wait until JCU goes in before they even get considered.  That could take a couple of rounds of voting.  Mechanically it really just doesn't work for a two-loss team that isn't the first at-large team in line from their region.

But it isn't impossible.  Weirder things have happened.

John Carroll vs. Baldwin-Wallace may well be a play-in game. If the winner ends 9-1.

There will also be some other 2 loss teams that will likely have better resumes. 2 losses is a deal killer this year more than likely.

All teams are non-ranked at the moment, since the regional rankings don't come out until next week.
