Go back and watch the 93 Stagg bowl.  Ed Bubonics was uncoverable.  Ballard also had the best TE in Rob Atwood.

Borchert had Knestric and Gollate at WR and a very good TE in Tyla.

Mount has almost always had excellent receivers.  The QB with probably the least talent at receiver i think was Rob Adamson.  Jason Candle wasn't a true #1 by Mount standards.  Very good, but not a game breaker.

Over the years the position that most often determines Mount's ultimate fate hasn't been receiver.  It's D-line and QB.

So I went back and watched more of Smeck and he really played well and made great throws under tight coverage and pressure against good teams. This is what I look for when calling a QB great. If you watch Ballard and Borchert, the throws they made to make guys open are incredible. This is why i can't put Fulford close until he consistently plays like he did vs Oshkosh last season. My point was that, in my opinion, I feel that the guys UMU had gotten at WR are faster and more athletic than in the 90's. Like you already mentioned, one of, if not the biggest reason Mount has been so successful is the Dline. The guys just keep reloading.

Also, little rumor I saw on Twitter had ESPN Gameday scouting the Mount Union campus last week. The rumor was that they were possibly coming to Alliance this week, but they are going to Boston College instead. Does anyone have insight here? I'm not a big ESPN fan, but that would be really cool. I imagine they could come for a big playoff game.

Enough Mount..... I'm looking forward to watching the BW/JCU game (using UMU stadium wifi off course). It adds to the last game of the season to essentially be a playoff game. I previously felt that BW had a great shot of winning, not sure I feel that way now. I'd put jcu as a 14 point favorite currently. Their defense plays better in big games and so does Moeglin (at least I feel like he plays better against UMU).

I feel like I've heard that ESPN rumor every few years since I've followed Mount. I think if they were ever going to come it would have been during the 2013-2014 JCU playoff matches or the 2015 UWW playoff semi finals game.

I'm expecting a great game, and glad that at the beginning of the season, BlueStreaks66 and I chose this game to drive out from Chicago for!

I do think we will win, but it should be close. It's hard to bet against a team who has given up only 7 points at home all season.

Have a safe trip to and from the Buckeye State for the "big game". I would almost rather watch your game than the Mount/Marietta game, except Marietta has surprised a few people this year. Sure hope they don't surprise the Raiders.
The Blue Streaks have to be the favorite in this battle. But, as we all know, rivalries don't always follow the script. Glad this game is in Shula Stadium.
I hope you get the victory and then a pool C bid to the playoffs. Seems to me you belong in the final 32. And besides, what's to like about Yellow Jackets?
As you guys would say, "Whose house, Streaks house". Go Blue Streaks ❗️❗️❗️

I kinda remember ESPN coming to Mount Union in the 90s.  Maybe when they broke Oklahoma's consecutive game win streak...

ESPN's show Cold Pizza did an episode on campus in early 2000's.

I've heard the College Gameday rumor off and on the past few years. I do think it'll happen, and somewhat soon. But it'll be during the down period between regular season and bowl season in D1. Maybe Semi-Final game or something. Would be really cool for DIII, OAC, and Mount.

I think that JCU controls BW with their great defense.  Don't take your eyes off the Mount game.  Marietta comes in with confidence and could make an interesting game. I'm looking forward to it.

During yesterday's JCU Heidelberg game in the second quarter Heidelberg punter Austin Baker set an NCAA Division III record with a 95-yard punt.  With the ball on the 5 yardline Baker reportedly kick the ball 2 yards deep in the endzone with the ball going into the other endzone.  There was a wind at his back, but OMG what a kick.  Austin out kicked his coverage who weren't able to down the ball before it went into the endzone. I didn't see the play but I wonder how far the ball rolled into the endzone.

I can't imagine the probability of a longer punt.  I googled longest punt in college and found a hit on NCCA web page that list...... longest punt in NCAA and college football history. Pat Brady, the specialist for the University of Nevada, set the record in 1950 with a 99-yard punt against Loyola Marymount.

The article further stated "The punt itself sailed about 70 yards in the air before it rolled down past the 1-yard line in the original Mackay Stadium. There hasn't been a punt marked 99 yards since that day on Oct. 28."

The report of this longest punt from 1950 seems a bit odd by today's standards. Based on today's standards the punting team would have had to have been almost on their goal line when punting.  I don't know for sure, but I suspect back then the punting distance was measured from where the ball was kicked and not the line of scrimmage.

Here it is:  https://twitter.com/YahooSportsCFB/status/1058833672072257541

Punter kicked it from about 3 yards deep.  Ball landed on Opposite 35. 68 yards in the air.

Thanks MUC57! Early forecast is calling for snow, which should favor the defense!

I second your thoughts on BW. But you know what they say "How do you get a BW grad off of your front porch???? Pay him for the pizza!"

That's only a net 75 yard punt.  I don't see what the big deal is.   :)

Onward on, John Carroll

I thought we'd stub our toe along the way but that didn't happen.  Some people have put up points on BW who I just did not think could put up substantial points on anyone.  As a result, I  agree - I think our defense will hold em and the offense will function at a high enough level to get the win.  Then . . . get ready for a tour of upstate NY as a road warrior throughout the playoffs.
