To my John Carroll friends

Congrats on making the playoffs. Of course, we knew you would. Looks like a good chance we'll meet again. Damn, I didn't want to play you a second time. At least, not at this point in the playoffs. Some of us wished you would have gone East. You could have won that bracket. Then we could have met in the semi-finals (in Alliance). But, it is what it is!
Go Raiders! Go Blue Streaks! Go OAC!

Thanks! I think we will be seeing each other again in a few weeks!

Thanks MUC, but I can't believe you thought I was the younger brother!!!! ;)

Why can't you believe I thought you were the younger brother? Check my signature below! Go OAC!

I did predict a November tour of upstate New York but so be it.  You have to beat good teams eventually and I guess Mount qualifies as that.  :) Early December in Alliance will have to do. Need to get those first two wins, though, and if the pass defense is as good as it was Saturday against BW, we may very well lose by 4 scores.

Not ill, just chicken. My leg was hurting, the sidewalks were icy and it was damn cold, as you know. I listened to the Mount game and watched JCU/BW on the Internet. Had several Bud Lights and tortilla chips with salsa in a nice warm house. But I will definitely be there Saturday. Ordered my seat early this morning. Thanks for asking. See you in 5 days. Go Raiders!

Footballscoop.com puts out an article each year called Nuclear Winter.  It is a parody article with fake predictions on all the football coaching changes.  This year it included VK:

QuoteAfter hiring Mike Jinks sight unseen from Texas Tech, Bowling Green runs in the opposite direction, hiring a local, proven winner. At the conclusion of his team's season, Mount Union head coach Vince Kehres will head west along Interstate 80 to take over at Bowling Green.

Mount highlights from Marietta game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=fkRh4ceb1Sk
Fulfords injury is at 1:30 mark. Looks like high ankle sprain if not worse. Just before that is the Cole Moxie sledgehammer applied to a DB and just after is Marietta's RB Clark getting crushed by Britt while returning a kick. Game was ok. However -  Marietta coaches need to be ripped on this one. I get it - you want to win and you need a certain caliber player on the field to do that however, Clark should not have come back into game after that hit. At the very least he should have come out for a few series to get looked at. He took a shot and just sat there looking around. He got help up and stumbled to the "huddle" and looked lost for a few series. Bell (#20) was rotating in from the beginning and should have been in the game at that point. #21 for Marietta got absolutely destroyed by Moxie and he stayed in as well. Kid was shaking his head back and forth for a few plays after. Neither one was looked at after those hits.

Final point - wanna know why Mount doesn't suffer a let down from year to year? They know when the game is over and get the subs in to get experience. Marietta - it's 49-7 and end of third. Why are all your starters in? Comeback? The QB (#4) was hobbling since the first quarter and yet when I walked back into stadium (to retrieve my daughters forgotten ear muffs) 2 mins into 4th...there he is still playing QB. Sorry but know when the game is over and get the 2's some quality time. As it was the Marietta starters outscored the Mount 3's 7 to 0.

Well, K & J's Dad, you know more about this than I do but it doesn't read as parody to me.

To me, it reads as "here are some predictions but don't necessarily bet the ranch."

Logan Hansen has his first playoff ratings out at:

I like Mount Unions 44% chance, but I think 100% chance that SJU makes it to round 2 seems a little high . Did Martin Luther get a playoff bid and forfeit or something??

I'm thinking a lot of Marietta's starters were seniors. #4 the Qb was. I can understand letting your seniors play out there final minutes of college football.

Doesn't matter.  Not worth arguing about, eh?

Any updates on Mount's quarterback situation (asks the poor schmuck who needs to figure out a spread)?

To start, I would make the line as if there's no way on God's Green Earth that Fulford plays a minute of the first half.  (Doesn't mean that's right but that's the way I would approach it.)

Shorts, I believe, was an option candidate because of his athleticism, but could throw decently. Burkes is a fine option candidate, but lacks throwing accuracy and zip.
Keeney appears to have zip and better passing skills , but wheels are average. Will be interesting to see what game plan presents.  This is if Fulford is unable to go.
I have no clue as to prognosis, he could be fine come Saturday.

Shorts also had previous QB experience. He played QB for Collinwood HS in Cleveland and was one of the backups for a while. He shifted to WR after Garcon left.

This is D3 football.  Many of the players were QBs in high school because that is where your best athletes were.  When I moved to Virginia -- so very different from Ohio and Texas -- the best played both ways.  My friend's brother passed for two TDs for Manassas Park, and made two INTs as a defensive back.  But their team lost because they could not staff two full-time lines.

So yeah, I would love to see another Cecil Shorts appear this year.  But I'm afraid we're a bit late in the season.  If they don't have another decent passer at this point, then I will make them one-and-done.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.
