More on attendance

I realize Thanksgiving is the biggest reason for low attendance. Students are gone, people are traveling. I was also thinking ahead. I see low attendance figures in lots of the playoff games. I'll wait until this weekends games and, maybe talk more about it. Time for a cold one! Mult noroc. (Ask your Romanian friends)
57 Buddy,
The kids are gone is one big reason but I wonder how the NCAA controls the gate and what kind of seats season ticket holders can get etc. etc?
Just gave myself a headache :)

The attendance number that jumped out at me was Whitworth @ St. John's, since SJU seems to have a stranglehold on D3 attendance records year-after-year.  Any special problems with getting a crowd to that game?  Even for Thanksgiving weekend, that's gotta be one of the smallest Collegeville crowds ever!

For an interesting take on the game here is the Centre Colonels write up https://centrecolonels.com/news/2018/11/24/football-top-ranked-purple-raiders-hold-off-colonels-in-ncaa-second-round.aspx

Apparently Centre held Mount to their lowest total output in terms of yards all season. Wow. That is one way to look at it. Of course the game I watched saw Mount start 5 drives inside your 30 yard line, saw a 6'5 285 OL (serving as a blocker on punt unit) get knocked back 5 yards into punter by a 6'2 215 LB, and saw an over matched and completely over whelmed Centre team surrender 51 points before the half. Statistics, what was that saying again?

I'm sure OSU/Michigan game playing at the same time didn't help either for the Mount game in addition to the holiday weekend and weather.

As to the comment about Mount Union's backups, they'll be fine. I was worried about depth too until you look at the starting lineup. Many defensive players are Juniors and sophomores, which means they'll be back next year and it gives those freshmen another year of experience. The average American male doesn't peak physically until mid to later 20's. Their bodies will develop with more time in a good strength and conditioning program. This also gives the coaching staff there opportunity to see which positions they really need to recruit hard. Dline and Oline is always difficult to recruit in NEO because many of those guys we used to get are D2 level recruits. I'm sure they're going to go after some high quality QBs. I like the potential of Moore and Homol, but they've got to get better.

Excited for another week like Purple Raiders football!!!

Although what you said was very nice, the second half performance was a total embarrassment! I realize they will, hopefully, improve in time. But when the 1st team defense is put back in, after sitting out a long time, there is a message. The coaches need to rethink their decision. I never want to see that again! Go Raiders! ☠🏈

Meh they lost. Gotta spin it in a positive way. Im done thinking about centre and on to The Mules

For a better take. Centre had 208 total yards at half. 1st half drive summary: Punt, TD, INT, Punt, Punt, INT, INT, INT.

The only area I was not pleased with from the D (reserves excluded) was the lack of pressure on the QB - which makes the INTs worse. He had time - 90% of the time. The down side for the Mules and hopefully the Semis is that the starters will be playing into 4th quarter rest of the way. I think the injury to Fulford, White (SS) last week, and maybe Ruth (hamstring) made VK overly cautious. Pull starters when game is in hand and avoid injury. I think now the starters play deeper into 4th - the exception will be Fulford, White and Ruth until they are 100%. The starers stay in the Centre game until 4th and that score is 70-something to who cares.

The 2nd round has always sucked attendance wise.  Playing at the same time as OSU/Michigan will kill attendance.   Especially when there is something riding on that game.  Factor in crappy weather and an opponent that no one knows or respects and you get horrible attendance.   Has been that way forever.

It's humor right?  They can't really be serious.  Well, I guess they can be.  It's called "positive spin", they should change their mascott from Colonels to Politcians.  ::)

I like the title of the article:

Top-ranked Purple Raiders hold off Colonels in NCAA second round

This is another great point:

- The second half was an entirely different story, as the Colonel defense not only held the Raiders without a point, but limited the hosts to just one first down.

Exactly!

Though I can't blame them for the tone of the article.   I'm sure all of their fans were convinced they'd have been fine if they just hadn't played so poorly to start the game.....

57 Buddy,

The other 57

Mount guarantees season ticket holders the same seats for the playoff. Any extra seats they ask for may not be near them, depending on availability. Don't think the NCAA "controls" the gate.
For your headache - take 2 aspirins or, my personal choice, drink a lot. I wish the Johnnies the very best this weekend! Go Johnnies! 😃 🍺 ❗️

Once you start charging students to attend, it really affects the gate. And when you send the students all home for the holiday, it compounds it. I've also been told by Whitewater fans that it's a big deer-hunting weekend, so that probably is the same in Minnesota.

Mount guarantees the same seat, but you do still have to pay for it, when you already paid for your season tickets up front.

91.1 posted on Twitter yesterday the video of Andrew Roesch running down Centre player just before the goal line as he tried to return a blocked extra point attempt for points.  In the video just after Roesch makes the tackle and the celebration starts a person in Mount Union purple coat standing just off the end line can be seen celebrating.  I know the university, OAC, and the NCAA do a great job of keeping fans off the field and behind the fences so this guy had to be there for some official reason.  In the video it is difficult to make out who the guy is but my guess is that it was LK.  Larry does watch a lot of the games from field level just beyond the endzone.

I wish I could figure out how to post a link of the video, but I'm old I get mixed up on posting video links.  Maybe someone on this board can help.
