I watched 3-4 plays in the UMU opener and I could tell they will be very dominating in the playoffs!  :o

I would like to see Mount Union take a lesson from WWW and purchase tix for students.  That is a classy move.

Thanks Bluenote. OK fans, you heard it here first. And from a guy who knows stuff. Don't go by his picture or the fact that sometimes he is a little off the wall. If he says it, probably true. After all, he really went out on a limb for this one. Go 'Cats!

It's happened a few times in the past, at least once when I was in school probably 2011 or 2012 IIRC.

It's Monday before a lackluster quarterfinals match up. What do you expect?

No offense to Muhlenberg, I just mean it's not Wesley or JCU or someone we get excited over

Excuse me! Some of us get excited for every game. These are the playoffs. Guess I'm a bigger fan but I have been a fan since 1953! Go back to your nap. Go Raiders, even though it's just a lackluster quarterfinal match up! 😃 ☠ 🏈

Just got done with running the 2nd units into the ground.  Sorry, didn't have my phone with me.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I feel compelled to discuss yesterday's section half.

That was the absolute worst performance I have ever seen from Mount Union backups. We hear about "next man up". When a player graduates or is injured, we go to the "next man up". Very often, history shows that there is little change in performance. We also go to the backups when Mount has built a big lead. The other team may score a TD or stop a Raider drive in, what is called, garbage time. But no big deal. But to give up 4 TDs is inexcusable.
I understand it's good to give these guys playing time. After all, they represent the future. After yesterday, the future doesn't look so good. I know! I know! Hopefully they'll improve over time. Maybe I'm premature in my comments. But I didn't see the usual results from a group of young up and comers in that second half.
I have a feeling the backups may be in for a long week. Coach Kehres could not have been pleased.
From here on, the starters may have to play more. Opponents should be getting tougher. We cannot afford to have a repeat of yesterday.
Our coaching staff is one of, if not THE best coaching staffs in the country. I'm confident they will deal with the situation.
There! I had to spout off. And now, back to normal stuff! Go Raiders! Beat the Mules! 😃 🍺 ❗️

I, too, was disappointed by the second unit' performance against Centre, but perhaps the quality of the opponent was superior to what the second unit usually faces.  Playoff rosters do limit substitutions, however, Centre seemed like they forgot they brought second team offensive players.  Perhaps they wanted to make the score look respectable in the end,  which they did.  But, I felt the onside kick after VK called off the dogs and allowed them a big half was inexcusable from the my perspective.  It spat into the face of sportsmanship, IMO. The Centre article on the school site was laughable, but it is the job of the SID to put a positive spin on it, and he surely did a great job of that.  Will be interesting if the teams meet again with the same coaches at the helm.

Agree,

My take on Centre playing the 1st unit the entire second plus the kick tells me their coaches do not place value
on  all of their players who worked all season to see some action against a premium opponent. Over the years the coaches
remember the well coached teams they face and class or lack of it shown before, during and after a game.
The class programs that Mount faces (win or lose) are always respected. Others never will part of that discussion.

For the quarter final, I would expect to see much more playing time for the starters. Mount does not have the challenges
heading for a potential Stagg as do MHB, UWW and St. John's. All they can do is work hard to execute the game plans, fine
tune the areas of concern and be very ready to the stiffer competition to come.  The discipline, history and
above all preparation will be factors going forward despite the NCAA scheduling for the playoffs.

Centre likely using the second half as an early pre-season game for next year's returners.  "This is where you need to get to be on top" etc.

This may be the first time in history a team that had a 51-0 lead in a half comes into the next game between the teams with revenge on their minds.  ;)

But I do understand exactly what you are saying about the onside kick.  I know much is often made about running up the score (including by myself in blatant "Caruso type" cases).  Because there is something to be said for knowing how to win.  However, there is something to be said for losing well, also. If you are getting pounded and you want the team in the lead to call off the dogs, it's incumbent for you to play the game a certain way as well. Run simple pass routes and don't try to embarrass the young players on the team in the lead. Don't do an onside kick. Play defense straight up and don't put nine men in the box and have first string linebackers take pot shots at running backs on a team trying to do you the service of getting through the game with fewer points being scored. Don't call timeouts. Obviously, the coach who is getting blown out has every right to ignore everything I just typed.  Just don't then expect the team in the lead to play nice.

They've got some decent athletes and are well-coached.  Hnatkowsky is a gamer and their TE could play for Mount Union.  That said, no.. they don't win in Alliance.  Obviously.  If they avoid the big mistakes early, they could keep it close for a half...maybe even through 40 minutes of game play.
