FYI , Muhlenberg Defensive Coordinator is Kory David, who also coached the Hobart Statesman Defense two years ago and had the Hobart Defense keep the 2016 first round game in Geneva close. Kory was Eagles  Asst. Coach under Andy Reid and IMO best DC in D3 football.  Hobart hated to lose him , but wife works for Eagles and Allentown is close to Philly. Mount Union should pull away based on talent but David has his team well prepared and will do everything to frustrate the Purple Raiders. Also, HC Milne is Hobart 2003 and has done a great job this year. They are not trying to lust look good, the Mules are trying to win. David against Goliath in the second half.

Cool.  I've been looking for someone to give me a breakdown on the top ten defensive coordinators in D3 football.  Could you give us a rundown of your top ten, with their strengths and weaknesses, and some illumination as to why you believe Kory David is better than the other nine?

Thanks!

P.S.  You must spend an INSANE amount of time watching D3 football!

If he is one of the best than I would love to see that list as well. Sorry - but having a week to prepare for Mount he had his team looking good. But the QB was never pressured, his stud LB and the "Rambo" guy were non-factors. I think God and his Rain Defense disrupted Fulford more than the Mules. Regardless, then Mount switches gears to the always difficult to follow wildcat and suddenly the Mules looked like Denison. Sorry but the wildcat wasn't difficult to follow. Every person in the stadium and streaming online knew where the ball was going. I think "the best"D coordinator in all of D3 would have at some point said to his players: "See the side car? the ball is going that side B or C gap".

I will give Milne credit. Pulling the QB to get the Senior in was a class move. Kudos for that one.

I meant that I wasn't going to give up on Fulford....c'mon man!
I've seen him do it, just not this year very often... Granted he hasn't had to. This is my point though, he will need to use the entire field these next 2 games. Saturday will be tough and in my opinion, they put up 21 or more if our offense turns it over like yesterday. If the weather isn't great, we'll rely on the run game.... Which BTW the Oline has definitely stepped up lately and played well! Either way I'm looking forward to another week of Purple Raider football!!

Seeing what Jalen Hurts did last night makes me wish for the days of a good QB as a backup. I'm fairly confident #12 wouldn't have played yesterday if Mount had a better backup option.

Also shows what can happen when a back up sticks it out. Never know what opportunity is going to pop up.

And if ANY player ever deserved to transfer, it was Hurts.

No was has talked about the time management, or rather, lack of, at the end of the 1st half. Why no time out when Muhlenberg was deep in their own territory? Maybe Mount could have got the ball back in decent field position. And then later, still no time out. Hey coaches, they don't carry over. They're gone forever. But what do I know?
I sure do hope Mount plays a better game against Johns Hopkins. That type of game playing UMHB or UWW will end in disaster. Hope all Raiders are healthy. Get 'Em! 😃 🏈 ☠

Yesterday's game was ugly and once the rain started it didn't seem to let up.  I was glade to be able to able to watch the game  out of the elements. Heck even LK watched the game out of the elements instead of his normal vantage point.

Fulford played with pain but wasn't very sharp by his standards. The defense has continued to jell and they are playing at or near championship level.  The offensive line has come on strong as well.

As others on this board have pointed out in the quarter finals game UMU had some success on quick hitters over the middle but appeared to have under utilized these types of routes instead throwing deep routes and wide receiver screens with little success. The failure of Mount to hit on these routes let Muhlenberg bring their DBs up and stack the box.  The impressive thing for Mount was with strong O-Line play and Petro UMU was able to move the ball on the ground with the Muhlenberg's defense up thought on the line.  However, with the Mules stacking the line when Mount tried use wide receiver screens to try to get Muhlenberg's defense to back away from stacking the line, but the mules strength in DBs made this ineffective.

UMU eventually adjusted to the the circumstances, pulled away, and won a bit ugly, but won impressively. I'm sure that with Fulford back into a starting role playing through the pain of his injury Mount was hoping to get the passing game going, but the combination of bad weather, the drops, and passing accuracy resulted get that part of Mount Union's offense going.  Eventually Mount adjusted the play calling and put the game away utilizing a strong game from Petro.

I thought the time management was perfect.  Mount had a 2 score lead against a team that wasn't a threat to score unless Mount gave them a short field combined with an offense that had already turned it over twice and without your best receiver being able to actually catch the ball.  The chances of Mount screwing up and giving Muhlenberg a easy score was higher in my mind than the confidence in Mount scoring in the last minute in the rain.  Not the decision we usually see from VK, but I took it as a positive sign that he's beginning to be a little discerning instead of always aggressive.

I see what you're saying. But Mount only had a one score lead at that point (14-7). Seems like a lot of time was wasted at the end of the half. But, see signature below. Of course I don't understand. But thanks anyway, Coach. You have a better grasp at this stuff than I do. Go Raiders!  ;D

We had some good scoring in the third round of the 2018 OAC Playoff Pick-emBillyRayJimBob, gobash83 and mr_mom nailed the D3 games; bluestreak66, desertcat1 and FCGrizzliesGrad aced the bonus picks.  gobash83 led the way with 13 points.

desertcat1 continues to hold onto his one-point lead over the rest of the field.

Spreads for round four will come out Monday night.

Do you remember the 2014 Stagg Bowl? We had a great opportunity to finally beat UWW again. We stopped them and had momentum (still down 1 score) going into halftime deep in our own territory. We tried to score and ended up throwing a pick 6 to go down 2 scores before half. That was VKs first Stagg Bowl and I feel he's managed tight games much better since.

Just read on an OSU insiders site that VK has been mentioned for the Akron opening. This would actually make sense bc of closeness to home and already knows the recruiting area swell, but I hope he doesn't....

I'm thinking LLs success at Buffalo helps his case. Kind of a proof positive than d3 to the MAC can be a successful transition.

Speaking of which can you imagine VKs Akron playing LLs buffalo in the Mac championship game?
