DeAngelo Fulford on the second team?  That's absurd. His QB rating is one of the highest in the country, far and away better than D3's OPY. DeAngelo is UNDEFEATED as a starter, 26-0,  and has won a National Championship. Nothing the D3 POY has done remotely compares to Fulford's achievements on the field of play. What does this kid have to do?

You said it for a lot of us. Makes these "all star teams" less meaningful. 😳 ❗️

Does he have to be? Mount Union doesn't nominate players for weekly conference or national honors. It's a coaching decision. I would hope the athlete's performance on the field is what counts, not the way the UMU Athletic Department runs the office.

I have ZERO problem with Fulford being 2nd team.  Mount has been very good on offense for 25+ years with a myriad of QB's that range in capabilities from Zac Bruney/Mike Jorris to Jim Ballard/Greg Micheli and everything in between.  Going by Mount wins and offensive stats has proven to be worthless when evaluating a Mount QB.  This is doubly so when you have Jared Ruth and Justin Hill to throw to in a very average OAC.  The only team in the conference playing defense is JCU which doesn't help him in this argument when he was horrible against JCU.  Rutter from NCC played in a stronger and more competitive conference and likely is doing so with lesser receivers than Fulford has.

If you want to look at last year, Germinerio (sp?) played better against MHB than Fulford did with a less talented roster around him.  Yes, Mount won the Stagg and he outplayed the MHB QB but that's like being the tallest midget.  Fulford didn't have a good passing game and thankfully the kid from MHB was much worse.

I think 2nd team North Region is very appropriate.

I think it would help if he had his athletics department advocating for him.  I also think it would help if he hasn't been poor or absent over the last month or if he wasn't bad in the only tight game Mount Union played- a game saved by NRDPOY Lou Berry, btw.

Rutter on the other hand has been present and accounted for in all of his team's games and has played quite well in all.  Stumbled some in the loss to Bethel, but at least he was able to go, right?  He's completed 100 more passes, thrown for 1,000 more yards, has a higher completion percentage, a lower INT rate.  Seems to me Rutter is a pretty good choice.

I have a procedure question

I know the teams exchange 3 game films before a game. It used to be that the last game was skipped. The 3 prior to that would be exchanged. In other words, if Mount beats JHU, would THAT game be skipped? Help! And remember, I get mixed up!  ::)

HELP ❗️❗️❗️  ???

From the pre-championship handbook:

Sunday, Dec. 2. Noon Eastern time. Deadline for the home teams of quarterfinal-round games to have posted via digital system copies of the quarterfinal-round playoff game (and communicate information to the winning team if the visiting team won). The winning team must provide information for obtaining its first-, second- and quarterfinal-round games to the opposing coach for the semifinal-round game.

Thank you sir.  I was not aware they published this information. <not sarcasm>

I guess my first question is does he have to be? And then I would add that Lou Berry was DPOY. If fulford wasn't nominated then reasonable to assume Berry wasn't either. Do you need to be specifically nominated for POY or all region and then they pick from the nominees for POY?

Was he nominated?

Pat said in another post that Mount Union did not nominate players this year.  But, D3Football did include Mount Union Players who were on the 1st Team OAC.

Purple,

HSCoach kind of said it all, but to clarify, that's similar to the sort of feedback we've heard from more than one person on more than one occasion this season.

In the past, several of us old confused guys have met for wings and some golden beverages on the Friday night before the semi-final.  Anyone interested in reviving that tradition?  We could meet at Rey's 62 in Alliance and talk about how no one has ever seen a team like....Skunk? HSCoach? Sidekick? Ric? MUC57? Hurfmuc? DesertRaider? Etc? Anyone else in the Alliance area?...Anyone from Johns Hopkins that wants to thump chests???

It has always been a friendly get together with fans of both teams invited for a real D3 sharing experience.

I may be down for that.  Won't know until closer to friday

Sounds pretty good. Will try to stop by for a drink or ten. OK, I lied about the ten. What time? I am old and therefore don't stay out after dark. Lied about that one too. Go Raiders!  ;D

I still disagree, even with HSCoach.. Who did Rutter play against? How many undefeated teams, how many 9-1 teams,  how many 11-1 teams, 12-1 teams?  He played a cupcake schedule and was  average against the only decent, not great, teams his team played.
I sure he's a fine DB QB. So was the Dennison guy.
Think he's good enough to bring back a team in Wisconsin against a great team?  I sure don't.
Think he'd go 26-0 against the lineup Fulford has gone against? Puh..leese.

No offense but I think I could have gone 24 and 2 if I had Hill, Ruth, Petro etc and that defense. I think fulford is a really good QB but he is made so much better by his skill players being phenomenal.

Mount has never nominated for weekly conference honors, and I support this.  People would get tired of seeing Mount kids every week, and Mount gets enough press. My guess is that this is the philosophy started and supported by LK. For me, it is great to see other kids get weekly honors.

All-star teams are a nightmare for anyone who selects one. There is always conflicts about who should or should not have made it.  Most kids would tell you they would rather be playing this week or next than making a all-star team.  I am sure all the Buckeye fans will feel that their QB deserves the Heisman even though he won't win.
.
Personally, there are very few (if any) that see as many D3 players as the staff of this web site. Therefore, I bow to their background knowledge and their  integrity, which cannot (IMO) be challenged,  in making their selections.
