Petrocat?
Raidercat?
MUCat?

It needs a catchy name!   :D

In NCAA Alabama ran it in the 90s, urban ran it at BG, Snyder ran it at K State. Vikings in NFL ran it in late 90s...I think they had the Alabama qb who ran it there, dolphins ran it in 2008 and 09. Mount ran it as mentioned. So used more recently than pee wee ball.

Seems like one of those things that has a limited useful life in the NFL due to the speed and skill level of the defensive players involved, which is what makes me love D3 so much. You can use something like the Wildcat (or various other fun wrinkles) with success even at the highest levels.

Although some of the gimmicky stuff is less effective (see 2012, 2015 UST Stagg Bowls, although not entirely ineffective) against a team like UMU or UMHB.

Could argue army, navy, and air force still run it with the wing t and triple option. Their QBs are more running backs than anything.

Another way to look at is...I scored 4 touchdowns in one game for Polk High...and I will tell everyone about it....forever.

Way I see it is the focus is too much on what he did last year. It was LAST YEAR. All the talk about him being 29-0 is fun but he is 14-0 and has been a non factor thus far in the playoffs.  I am concerned about his confidence.  When he got pulled last week ESPN showed him on bench and he looked off...for lack of a better word. Then they put him on 3rd down and pulled him again and he looked deflated. How long does that stick in his head and how it affects him Friday will soon be seen.

I saw what I thought was dejection/lack of confidence on his face also.  I hope it was understandable anger because he had been taken out so Mount could run an offense (continuous wildcat without any deception)  that hasn't been seen outside of pee wee football in about a hundred years.

Regarding switching players in and out. I do admire VK and staff on being willing to adjust in game on utilizing your best players and different formations in order to win games. I have witness many times over my years a coach being unwilling to bench a player or adjust an offensive scheme to win games.

No, I agree it was a good adjustment by the Mount coaching staff.   I'm just amazed that the defensive coaches for JHU couldn't make an adjustment  to stop it.

What's the adjustment, exactly?  9 in the box?  10?  Don't cover Hill?  Because that didn't work out in the first quarter.

The one long drive with the RB direct snap package ended with a Fulford turnover.  The next one was 3 and out.  Total points scored against JHU with the direct snap package: Zero.  I think they did fine.

I just wonder if Petro can throw it on target 15 yards downfield.  That could make it interesting, or hit a short crossing pattern against the grain.

8 Rutgers players indicted...man, so much for recruiting character.  Glad I follow D3.

The wildcat wasn't about points IMO. It was about time. Mount are clock with it. Granted I am sure they wanted points as well. But they did eat time.

The first time I saw it in person was back when New Phila was in the Federal League they had future OSU LB Cie Grant.  They'd just line Grant up in the shotgun by himself, snap it and let him run.  Everyone knew that was coming, but he was such a great athlete that it was still effective.  It was actually fun to watch because it was such a throw back.

I wouldn't say that D3 is full of character so quickly.

You're right.  Upon further review, I do remember seeing it outside pee wee.  In the 60's Massillon ran it against Alliance.  The quarterback took the snap under center with an empty backfield and literally walked parallel to the line of scrimmage until he found a hole to run through.   I think that was 75% of their offense in that game  and it worked.    The most effective wildcat I saw other than that was Florida (under Urban) with Tebow.  He was a bruising running back, but he was also a threat to throw so the defense couldn't just put everybody on the line of scrimmage.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that petro played some qb in high school.

From what I have seen over the years, there is no comparison of men of character playing D3 versus D1.  Everyone has their bad actors, but it appears to me that many D1 coaches overlook red flags when recruiting players.  Furthermore, some programs are known for their ability to look the other way for some athletes...Jameis Winston ring a bell, how about Reggie Bush and others who come to college with their hands out.
