HELP!

Glad to see some people posting. That being the case, hear my plea!

I'm in Alliance. The temperature is 1 degree. The wind chill is -8 degrees. We have been buried in snow. I can't get to my garage to get my car. Hell, I can't really get out of my house. All of the walks are covered. And it has just begun to snow again.

I have lots of food. Plenty of flashlights in case of a power failure. All the medicinal products I could ever need. My cats have plenty of dried food and canned food. I have coffee for the morning.

However; I have run out of beer. This is having an adverse effect on my well being. The weather situation has reached the crisis level. I'm at my wit's end.

So, if anyone could possibly drop off a 12 pack - even a six pack. Anything would help. A cold can of Bud Light would be great, for now! Just look for the house with the sign in the window that states "WE ARE MOUNT UNION". If you throw it up to me, i'll try to catch it.

I know I can count on our terrific posters from the OAC! Thanks in advance. 🍺🍺🍺🍺 ⛄️

P.S. If you could bring some tortilla chips and salsa, since I'm almost out of those, I would be very appreciative. You guys are the best! ;D

Here's a post I put on awhile back. Now this is desperation. I was invited to go to the party where I met D'Angelo. So there! 🍺
And by the way, no one came by to help me in my time of need! 😥 🍺

57, I tried to bring you beer, I really did. But as I was rolling the keg across campus I was accosted by a group of sorority girls who, despite my best efforts to resist, were able to persuade me that they would show much greater appreciation for the beer than you could.  Sorry buddy, maybe next time.

Happy Birthday!!!!

Some fun news from the JCU football world,

Even better that it's my alma mater, but more importantly it's great to see DIII programs have a lasting impact on the NFL.

Now that's a great story. But I heard it differently. Some sorority girls said they were headed to the chapel when some pervert, their word, tried to get them in his car to drink beer. Seems he was headed to rescue a fellow Mount guy when he spotted the coeds. This seems a more plausible story. But thanks for the thought anyway! Thanks for the Happy Birthday. That's more than I got from my son. Oh, well! Go Raiders.
And remember-Lacrosse season starts Feb. 23. That's both men and women!

I wonder how many of Malone's players could actually make the 2-deep at UMU.

Although this is true, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a handful take a hard look at Mount. I'm sure they'll want to go somewhere where they will be able to play right away and that might not be UMU. Malone did just have a WR play well at the senior bowl though so you never know. Coach Thomas has a good relationship with UMU staff. With his daughter going to play volleyball at Mount, maybe Vince could convince him to join the staff?

Although there are no roster limits, there is a limit on how effective your staff can be in practices with too many people. If there are more players, practices can be rough to manage. Should be an interesting of season.

Having coached in NCLL when he did, and then having my son play at Hoover with his son, I can tell you that Coach Thomas is a great guy who always has had the student athlete's well-being in his mind first and foremost.  I hope he lands on his feet somewhere with another opportunity.  As to how many of those kids could crack Mount's two deep, I would guess possibly three or four.  I read that Malone will honor their scholarship for its remainder so I wonder how many will hang up the cleats and just finish their education there.

A few of their younger qbs have very nice HS resumes. Would like to see a few of them transfer to take #12 spot after he graduates.

Also a lot of size on the oline, which would be nice. Playing on a terrible team and watching the team down the road get to play on ESPN, and get featured on sportscenter has to be very appealing.

One or two of these guys might be good enough to play at Mount.

Well, that is disappointing.  I always hate to see a college or university drop their football programs.  The article mentioned that Malone was attempting to alleviate an annual 2+million deficit and that by eliminating football, it would save 1 million of that.  While the deficit is certainly a lot of money, at the same time, it seems to me that if they really wanted to save it, there could have been some attempts/ways to reach out to alumni and other groups to raise that money.  Many of us have discussed this topic before regarding how several colleges and universities have come up with solutions to raise that kind of money and save a program (Michigan Tech is one example).

Admittedly, without checking the university's website, I do not know anything about their overall financial status and perhaps that was just not feasible and the administration and Board of Trustee just did not want to deal with it, thus, simply dropping the program solves 1/2 their problem.  I suspect, however, that the Malone will still have a tough situation in dealing with their financial problems.  Hopefully, those football players who wish to continue and finish their remaining eligibility will be able to find the college/university program that will be the best fit for them.  As you guys have discussed, perhaps Mount might end up with a handful and most will probably will be at other programs in Ohio similar to Malone-there are some options in that regard.  I wish the players and coaching staff all the best in hopefully finding other programs to join.

This Malone situation is sad.  I listened to Joe Palmisano's show online.  Fred Thomas was in studio.  What a mess this whole thing is.  Thomas was emotional, crying on the air.  He said that the AD told him Thursday at 4 PM that the President wanted to meet with the team to dispel some rumors.  Thomas was told the President was meeting with all the teams.  The President met with the coaching staff at 5:45 AM Friday and told them the program was disbanded effective immediately.  They met with the players at 6:00 AM the President made the announcement and left.

Thomas said he has 79 kids and 79 want to transfer as of now, but some can't because they're too far into their degree.  Even if they can leave there are almost no scholarships left to be had.

Their coaches are getting paid until March, but how many are going to be able to find jobs at this point?  It's BS that Malone is honoring the players' scholarships and financial aid, but not the coaches contracts.

I was happy to hear Thomas say that he was outside making a call not long after it happened and he saw VK walking up.  Thomas said he came over to check on him because VK's known Thomas since he was the coach at Alliance and VK was "a 145 lb DE".  He got emotional talking about VK coming "to check on the old man".

This was an absolutely terrible way to handle it. I had concerns when they changed conferences. This is a shame for the players coaches and any of the athletes who were ready to sign.

I was being nice in my previously posted comments regarding this.  Both of you are right.  The Malone administration and Board of Trustees certainly had to know this situation long before now and highly likely even at the end of the season.  Regardless of the money situation at the university at this time as has been stated in the article, they absolutely mishandled the situation as both of you have mentioned.  This is disappointing and sad for those players and coaches involved.  The President and others can say how tough a decision it was and I do not dispute their sincerity in that, however, there is no excuse for how they handled it.  A pitiful shame.

The mistake Malone made was starting football in the first place.  They were fine with the programs they had, but someone felt that being a college in northeast Ohio, they had to have football.  Not so, and it lasted longer than it should have.  The fact that they never attempted to put a facility on campus, playing away from the school, made it difficult for students to get to games and I don't believe it ever caught on  with the kids.   It has to assimilate into the campus and other college activities and it never could or did.  I would not be surprised if Walsh ends up in a similar situation.  I can't understand why Walsh doesn't erect bleachers at their beautiful practice field which would bring the games right across the street from all the dorms and draw kids and community members. Tis a real shame.
