Doesn't the NCAA require a minimum attendance average to stay D1?  I thought I heard that, because someone was selling blocks of tickets to local businesses to keep up sales to meet the minimum.  So the question is, is the Akron 19,000 ticket sales or butts in the seats?  I drove by an Akron night game last season, only could see the west stands but it appeared not more that a few hundred there.
That being said, I believe that Arth will get people out and hope he wins to keep them out.  They have a beautiful facility,  have not seen locker rooms etc...but the stadium is attractive....and big.

That "beautiful facility" has serious problems.

Is the Rubber Bowl still there?

Thanks for the report on the stadium.  A real shame for such a relatively new facility.  Akron should sue for such shabby work. The design of the railing seems that it was doomed from the start. About the Rubber Bowl, I always loved watching games there.  Went to numerous high school playoff games and always felt it was a great place to watch a game.  With the blimp hanger there, it seemed as if you were sitting right in the middle of the history of Akron.  I, too, would have loved to see a refurbishment, but folks are always enamored by "new".

I don't understand the kid's thinking. Mount Union has had two WRs make it in the NFL. Has Akron had any?  Mount has an All American QB coming back, a veteran offensive line and always has a prolific pass offense. Who is Akron's QB?  Akron's football program is on life support. The faculty is solidly in favor of abolishing it, and for good reason. It is an unacceptable drain on the University's resources. Student fees at Akron are higher than at comparable institutions for one reason, the football program. Would anyone be shocked if Akron did away with D1 football?

Akron should never have gone to FBS.  FCS (D1A back in the day) would be a much better fit.  Although they have had some success in D1 Basketball & Soccer.

Isn't FCS the old "1AA"? I think that's right. Ah, but see the signature below.  :o

You are correct Muc, FCS was previously 1AA.

Yep success in soccer and basketball, which makes them a perfect candidate for FCS! the subdivision was literally made for schools they wanted to be d1 athletically but couldn't afford to play with the big boys in football. Over on the YSU forums it's kind of an ongoing discussion that almost all MAC schools would be better off in FCS

Another interesting note, Brandon Lee, WR from Florida has transferred to Akron. He was a freshmen last year and seemed to be in line for serious playing time. Arth is quoted as really looking this guy. I know they'll be fine at receiver, it's just odd to see.
https://www.ohio.com/sports/20190404/university-of-akron-football-walk-on-brandon-lee-catching-eye-of-zips-staff

"I was at the University of Mount Union and I decided that I could do better," he said.

Ok...

Interesting flex for a guy that *checks notes* caught three passes for 14 yards and lost a fumble.  Can't really ever fault somebody for taking the opportunity to play FBS ball (and get at least some significant chunk of college paid for), but that's kind of a weird thing to say.

He wouldn't have played any significant role for Mount Union (attitude)

1AA, I stand corrected.  How did it get to be double A?  Was it considered demeaning to be in a division with only one A?

I really like the receiver Mount is getting from McKinley.  Maybe this will open the door for him to see the field his freshman year.

No, the 2 As just signified that it was a specific sub-division of D1 football. So within Division 1 football you had Division 1-A (FBS now) and Division 1-AA (FCS now).

And let's call a Spade a Spade, FCS/1AA is really made up of various levels as well.. There are the schools that award scholarships and care (i.e. NDSU, Montana, etc.) and the schools that are on paper FCS but only because they have other sports they want at the highest level (usually basketball), and don't even award scholarships (i.e. Valpo, Drake, Georgetown).

I really like him too. I think he has potential to make an impact on the receiving rotation for sure. He made plays all year for the Bulldogs and they had a very good high school offense.

4.5 is a d1 wide receiver time, that's fast.  And 22 bench press reps are crazy.

In comparison, last year at a pro day  YSU's top 3 wide receivers ran 4.49 4.65 and 4.78 and benched 8 reps 8 reps and 10 reps.

Ruth probably could have been a productive FCS or MAC slot receiver, crazy how these guys slip through the cracks, it's not like 5-10 is tiny either.
