They're gonna need more than three hours of practice for what the Dub has in store for them.

OW! But that will be a very intense 3 hours - hitting, tackling and everything.
Anyway, doesn't matter. Let's look at past Stagg Bowl history:

  Year     Champion
  2015    UMU
  2016    UMHB
  2017    UMU
  2018    UMHB

As you can plainly see, there is a definite pattern here. It's quite obvious, even to the casual observer, that this is Mount's year. Tough to argue against history and "facts"!
So 3 hours should suffice. This IS the year of Mount Union.

I see no mention of a "DUB" anywhere. Once again, number 14 for the Purple Raiders - this year!

On the other hand..........................   ???  :P  ;D

Well, you certainly have a better argument for a trend than I have.
Ok, here's one. The last time UWW went four years without winning a Stagg Bowl, they broke their streak w the program's greatest victory- a 2007 win over MT. It's in the stars, it's got to be.

From the MTU Football Media Guide:

ASSISTANT COACHES
(RESPONSIBILITIES)

Chris Kappas (Defensive Coordinator)
Geoff Dartt (Offensive Coordinator)
Daryl Ely (Pass Defense Coordinator/Corners)
Kyle Miller (Receivers)
Jeff Wojtowicz (Quarterbacks)
Shawn Collins (Running Backs)
Brooks Jenkins (Offensive Line)
Kollyn Crenshaw (Safeties)
Paul Gulling (Receivers)
Trent Poelker (Specialists)
Fred Thomas (Defensive Line)
Troy Davis (Linebackers)
Dustin Miller (Tight Ends)

That's interesting.  Lord knows how many years Woj has been coaching secondary.  But man, that is a really good staff.  A lot of continuity.  Dartt and Kappas are outstanding, proven coordinators.  Ely is so valuable.  Gulling is so consistent developing those WR.  Sad circumstances landed Fred Thomas in Alliance, but what a great addition for this 2020 season.

Can't believe that nobody has posted this yet. Mount Union was ranked 16th out of ALL college football programs for the best program by ESPN. They based it on different things and weighed D1 higher obviously, but they were the highest ranked non-D1 team.
Also included Wittenberg, UWWhitewater, and Linfield.

Kind of feel like Mt. Union should have been higher. I know this is a whole program history thing (and they do have a few underwhelming years in the distant past), but ultimately, championships should be the main criteria for best program. There shouldn't be teams with 1-5 championships (Penn St., Texas, ect.) in front of them. Maybe they would have been higher with better results in the 50s. I guess that's what they get for having guys like MUC57....... ;D ;)

With camp starting I figured I needed to refresh myself on what the Raiders have on paper for 2019.  There was a time when I just remembered that stuff, but these days I have to do homework!  The pains of middle age.

The O line should be a strength.  They return 5 starters.  Not all 5 from 2018, but Frazier Daniel who started at LT as a soph in 2017 should be back after missing 2018 with an injury.  Klaus, Sherman and Stika were All-OAC.  Presutti, who started a number of games for Stika when he was injured, also returns.

Other than Hill the WR/TE spots are up for grabs.  Harvey seems to be the only other one returning who has caught some varsity passes.  Britt has moved to safety.  If you're going to be looking for new starters I'd say this is the spot you'd want to be doing it.  There never seems to be a shortage of WR in Alliance so it'll be fun to see who wins those spots.  Dartt is going to have some fun with Fulford, Hill, Petro and a veteran O line.  And that's not even taking into account how he decides to use Burkes.

Defensively they have a lot more shoes to fill with the secondary being an overhaul.  I do like that they're pretty set up front with Roesch, McComb and Pastor.  Roesch is a stud and the two big guys in the middle are just no nonsense dudes who do their jobs well.  They seemed to use those 3 and then use Williams as the other "DE" a lot.  Losing Robinson at LB stings, but O'Hara is ready to step into that spot I think.  I do wish Brown was back at CB to at least give the secondary an anchor, but situations like this are where you reap the benefits of your backups playing all those game snaps and getting that extra month of practice at the end of the season.  Your "new" starters have already played at least half a season's worth of varsity football.

The other lingering item from 2018 is to keep an eye on who emerges as the backup QB.  Hopefully one isn't needed, but that did not go as well as we hoped last season.  Keeney is a junior now and Kyle Moore, who played in 4 games as a freshman, returns as well to potentially push him for that spot.

It came out that Mount is restructuring its defense, with another down lineman, I think. One young linebacker that made some big plays as a frosh is Kovath.  He almost has to start.  I did not see any backups that were close to him.  He was most impressive.  Rumor mill is what it is, however, one I heard is a division one talent QB who wanted to concentrate more on academic opted for DIII and came to Mount.  I take it for what it's worth.
Would like to hear from anyone who has watched practice for a perspective, especially about the number of frosh and any promising newcomers/transfers...

Have watched practice every day. Saw some players that looked really good. Still early.
Next week, rosters will be out for both upper classmen and freshmen (no numbers for the frosh). Should also get a better feel for number on the team. Awhile back, I saw, in the Review, 225 players which includes 95 freshmen. Don't quote that number. SID says wait till next week for better numbers. As you know, that number can change hourly.
Guess you didn't learn much from me, but that's the best for now! Go Raiders!  ::)  ;D
