Can't believe that nobody has posted this yet. Mount Union was ranked 16th out of ALL college football programs for the best program by ESPN. They based it on different things and weighed D1 higher obviously, but they were the highest ranked non-D1 team.
Also included Wittenberg, UWWhitewater, and Linfield.

Kind of feel like Mt. Union should have been higher. I know this is a whole program history thing (and they do have a few underwhelming years in the distant past), but ultimately, championships should be the main criteria for best program. There shouldn't be teams with 1-5 championships (Penn St., Texas, ect.) in front of them. Maybe they would have been higher with better results in the 50s. I guess that's what they get for having guys like MUC57....... ;D ;)

bluestreak66

Wait a minute. Sure, Mount was bad in the 50's. For the four years I was there, they won a total of 10 games (5,2,2,1 - not sure of the order). They were really bad.
Now, as Paul Harvey would say, "Here's the rest of the story.
I left Alliance after graduation in 1957. Served in the Air Force, went to several grad schools and returned many years later. Since my return, they won their first OAC championship (and added many more) and won their first National Championship (and added 12 more). Many records were also set along the way.
Is it possible that the sight of this old alum in the stands served as an inspiration. Maybe hearing my voice offer up a cheer caused a little more determination from the team. Being at practice in all sorts of weather could have provided a certain amount of motivation for the players.
So, bluestreak66, look at history. THAT'S the real MUC57.
Fair person that I am, I will look beyond your disparaging remark about me. It's forgotten. It's water under the bridge. "The moving finger writes and having writ, moves on - thanks to The Rubiyatt(sp)). How's this for forgiveness - Go Bluestreaks!  ::)  :P  ;D

(At least we have a video scoreboard). Gotcha!

"Taught to respect our elders?". "Taught to respect our elders?". Oh yeah?
At least we also have covered stands. Oh hell, Go Streaks!  :P  8-)  ;D

Forgot to mention. I did not, that's DID NOT, play football. So there!  :P

One more thing. Sure wish you and your brother were going to the UMU/JCU game on Sept. 28. He said you were probably going to the JCU/Wilmington game. Why? You'll probably wipe out The Quakers. Oh well, gotta be better than watching The Purple Raiders have their way with you, especially in "Streaks' House"!  ;D

OK. Obviously raiderpa is around. Where is everybody else?

Practice started last week. Fulford to Hill is looking real good, as always. Josh is running hard. O line looks big and strong. Some of the freshmen are looking like they're ready for the varsity. LK has been shouting "words of encouragement" like he used to. I counted 10 QB's. Should be a good battle for the number 2 spot.

It's going to be a great year for the Purple Raiders. Can't wait for the season to start. Go get 'em!  ;D

I understand Drewrys beer is back at least in your part of the country. When you try it, let me know if it is as nasty as it was 60 years ago.   ;)

If it's that nasty, why would I try it? I thought we were friends. Oh hell, I'll try it if I can find it.
If it's that bad, there will be no place you can hide from me!

Can't be as bad as Gluek Stite Lager where a reviewer wrote:

Amazing to me that one of the very best quarterbacks in Mount Union football history, DeAngelo Fulford, does not make the D3FOOTBALL preseason All-American team.
It is an insult to Mount Union, and his position coach, who knows a bit about coaching great quarterbacks.
After eating such a huge helping of crow when the presumption of innocence prevailed in the false criminal case, I would think D3FOOTBALL's picker would have lost his taste for crow.
Apparently not.

Ah, but purple, have you forgotten? Objectivity regarding Fulford is optional when it comes to this site.

Or maybe, just maybe, Erdman, Tammaro, and Rutter are pretty good as well. DIII isn't as Mount centric as it was 15 years ago.

Great. Make your case for which of the 3 QBs on the All-American teams don't belong then.

TBH I didn't expect Fulford to be preseason AA.  I'm not sure why he would be.  The preseason team mirrors the 2018 AA team.  That's what I'd expect.  If he puts up numbers like 2017 again where he tosses 50 TD and leads the nation in passer efficiency I'm sure he'll be an AA at the end of the season.
