Good Lord.  Stay in 2 backs and quit running the QB.

I must be slow on the draw today. Fulford has been gimpy all second half, and Mount has 2 backs who could use more carries anyway.

I feel like if MUC57 had given John Carroll a pep talk at half, they may have won. They would have been motivated by his cool old guy wisdom. Like Wilson from Home Improvement!

3 games in and for the 2nd time this season I have to say "a win is a win". Seems wrong. When does Mount start playing? 1st half they looked good. 2nd half started well - I liked the switch to more run. But mid 3rd on everything sort of turned on its head. Play calling (meh), effort (meh), they just didn't look crisp. The secondary is just not good, and #24 is a walking, talking, PI. I know he had 1, I think he had 2. He can't cover. I worried the DBs were small with Berry and crew - but never questioned their ability to cover. I like the DB size this year - but they can't cover. Time will tell.

Fulford runs way too much. If he does that enough, we lose a QB. :(

Mount Union won today's game, as you know. However; I have the greatest respect for John Carroll.
You have a quality football program, a very nice stadium, a pretty campus and outstanding academics.
And, as a Catholic myself, I have the greatest respect for The Jesuits. They are, generally regarded as, the scholars of the church.
These comments are not meant to soothe your disappointment on today's game. I have always felt this way. We rag on each other about our sports teams, but damn it, these OAC schools are fine schools.
Best to The Streaks on the rest of the season. Hope to see you in the playoffs.  8-)  ;D

Agree with many thoughts shared here: play calling was good in first half then odd in 2nd, Harvey was GREAT, why wasn't Petro running more after halftime, defense was very solid except for corners.

They beat a top ten team and the though part of the schedule is done. I have a feeling Fulford wanted to run more to price he could do it vs a good defense. I think that will stop for now.

Now, is JCU still the clear number 2 in the OAC? BW and Heidelberg may get them this year IMO.

BW or Berg May get them, but I would still put JCU is a slight favorite for#2. Wouldn't be shocked to see them lose again, but have to favor them in every game going forward

Were we trying to get Fulford killed?  Way too much running on the QB counter that did not work.I also thought the #24 had two or more PI's.  He looks lost out there.  Offensive line blocking for running game is average, at best, but I am sure it will come together.  Everything will get better with game experience, I just worry about getting Fulford banged up with so much ball carrying.  John Carroll only had the ball for about 2 and a half minutes of the 1st qtr.  They doubled Hill all day and Harvey picked up the slack.  JCU is well coached and gave Mount fits in some areas.  They will always be the team to beat beyond the Raiders.

Agreed. 8-2 at worst. Meaning us Mount fans are being as exacting as UMHB fans were last week after their uninspired performance. Beat a Pool C-caliber team (possibly a round-2 team) in their house by 3 touchdowns and we are ripping almost everything (they did run the backs more, but not enough) about the entire second half.

Every interview I have ever read or seen with a Mount player or Coach they mention "the guys that came before them", "the legacy", and of course "the rings". The Mount players know they are measured against Ballard, Borchert, Smeck, Kmic, Moore, Trey Jones, Lally, Kern, Grinch, Ely, Lou Berry, Scott and so many more. They all know they are expected to bring home the next ring. Is it fair? Maybe not - but they came to Mount to measure up. #24 may be able to cover his bed with a blanket - but he can't cover a receiver (yet) and he aint no Lou Berry or Trey Jones. Not only do they know who and what they are measured against - they say that is why they came to Mount. Mount fans aren't as exacting as UMHB fans - Mount fans are more. Because at the end of the day - UMHB, UWW, Tommies - they want to be Mount.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Mount Union coaches believe that #24 is better than the guy BEHIND #24 on the depth chart.

I am sure he is. That's the scary part - he is the best they have.

Okay, how can he be coached up?

What is he physically capable of doing that he's NOT doing?  Anything?

What is he mentally capable of doing that he's NOT doing?  Anything?

What can the coaches do to give him help?  (Because no team, not even Mount Union, has eleven All-Americans a side.)

And I hope Mr. #24, Mr. #24's backup and all the other Mount Union players are taking their academic studies more seriously than their D3 football careers.

Crikies.
