Okay, how can he be coached up?

What is he physically capable of doing that he's NOT doing?  Anything?

What is he mentally capable of doing that he's NOT doing?  Anything?

What can the coaches do to give him help?  (Because no team, not even Mount Union, has eleven All-Americans a side.)

And I hope Mr. #24, Mr. #24's backup and all the other Mount Union players are taking their academic studies more seriously than their D3 football careers.

Crikies.

I agree with Raiderpa - #24 looks lost. He looks like he isn't sure which way to go and doesn't understand his assignments. Against BW I thought it was a lack of speed - they had some really quick WR's - but jcu didn't seem to have that and it didn't matter. He kind of reminds me of me when I played DB "I thought we were in cover 2". He doesn't appear to know what he is supposed to do. Maybe the key is to get out the playbook - maybe the key is more time, maybe it is that he didn't get to open with Marietta, Wlima, etc and work up to jcu and BW. Whatever it is - I don't think it is wrong to point out he is not very good right now.

On Fulford running - even the jcu game crew (Anthony Moeglin did a nice job) were questioning the designed QB runs. Moeglin said "Fulford has been limping since 3rd quarter and they just called 3 straight QB runs - not sure if I agree with that. I don't know what Coach Kehres and his staff are trying to do". I am sure there was a reason and I am sure Geoff knows what he is doing - but if Fulford goes down with another injury. Ouch.

Sure, Mount Union won the game - but!
We DO have covered stands, a video scoreboard, a name on our helmets, a marching band, 2 different colored helmets and who knows what else.
But, the Goodyear Blimp - ah. How did you guys do that? Don't think we can ever top that. I really hate admitting that was the ultimate "gotcha"! Damn, you guys are good.
My final comment - Go Bluestreaks and Go Raiders!  8-)  ::)  ;D

IMO you can throw the 2nd half results out the window.  No one in the stadium, watching online, or following in any way thought JCU could make any kind of comeback.  I also thought they ran Fulford too much in the 2nd half and wonder why less Petro.

This team faced a top ten team and beat the dog crap out of them.  The first half was as dominating as it can get.

I think we will be ok.   8-)

And Fulford's stats through three games are pretty darn impressive.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

AFCA, while clearly inferior to the d3fb.com poll, is still a legitimate poll, top 10 isn't an inaccurate description.

But it also shows there was a definite difference of opinion, and I think we are closer here. Either way, the gap between national contenders and the rest of the Top 25 takes place above No. 12 or No. 9.

Thoughts from yesterday...

I don't really care much about the second half.  That game was over at half.  They could have played until the Browns kicked off and JCU wasn't scoring over 30 points.  Probably should have thrown Plunk out there for a while or, at the minimum, not run Fulford as much as others have mentioned.  I can't imagine his limping was anything serious at all otherwise he would have been pulled.

I thought the OL got a passing grade.  They didn't run the ball overly well, but the big boys did a pretty solid job in pass protection against a JCU team with 12 sacks their first 2 games.  Couple sacks and when I was watching 100% (first half) JCU couldn't seem to get much pressure at all without blitzing.

I really like the threat that Harvey is emerging to be at the #2 WR spot.  He's done a nice job the last 2 weeks against their best competition.  I like his frame at 200 lbs.  That's no slight WR.  You need those stronger guys against the teams you'll see deep in the playoffs.

As with last week, even when you double Hill or do a good job holding him in check eventually his talent just wins out.  Heck, his best play of the day was probably that circus catch he made in the end zone that he just missed getting his foot down in bounds for the TD.  He's just a superior athlete at this level.

It's hard to gauge the defense much from this one IMO.  JCU is just not great offensively.  They have almost no talent at WR which is crazy given their normal talent level.  Nugent is a solid player, but other than him their next 3 best pass catchers are RBs.  I was a little surprised Cangenelli didn't get more carries, especially early on.  They had Limerick out there exclusively at the beginning of the game.  As I mentioned above, I only really cared about the first half and the D played really well then.

I suppose I'm just more of a glass half full guy, but I look at what the 2019 team's "problems" are and think they're fixable over the next 2 months.  2013?  Those were problems...Burke just carrying a sub-par team on his back somehow willing them to Salem.  2016?  Down to your 3rd freshman QB with a defense that had issues, but somehow having the ball down 14-12 at UMHB in the semis.  Maybe I'm too much of an optimist, but I don't look at this team and see those types of issues to overcome.  They have stuff to work on for sure, but they have 2 months now to work on them.

After watching highlight of the game, there was one angle that showed Fulford using a different arm angle to get the ball by a defender. I thought Fulford was very savvy yesterday and he's definitely made improvements (I'm sure some if that is health), which brings me to... Why wouldn't you play Plunk in the 4th Q? We may need him at some point with D'Angelo's injury history?
Other notes:
Moeglin did a very nice job commentating in the game
I really like the purple raiders receiving core. Hill is just a talent, but Harvey is talented and comes up with big catches and Ruby/Reed look good when they're out there. Add Weygandt and Petro and that's a full armory.
Ford stood out in lots of plays on defense. I can see them playing 3 down linemen with him being flexible on different plays.
Lastly, with St Thomas losing last night. The top contenders are shrinking IMO. JCU, according to votes in the AFCA poll, was closer to the 14th team than 8th. They're all close.

That right there is a luxury very few teams enjoy.

I meant to mention this too.  I thought Moeglin did a really good job.  I texted a buddy that he was like the D3 Romo going straight from the field to the booth so he knows all the plays and players like the back of his hand.  Often times when you're listening to a school's audio it's painful.  The JCU crew did a nice job.  I actually ended up turning off Sam and TJ and just listening to the JCU guys only.  Really a nice surprise.

Scores have been posted for the 2019 OAC Pick-Em.  "Football Picker Extraordinaire" FCGrizzliesGrad aced all four of the OAC games on his way to a week-leading 10 points.  And in that revolving door at the top of the leaderboard, this week it is NCF's and wally_wabash's turn to shine.

Spreads will be posted Monday night.

New Top 25 is out. Not much change except St. Thomas dropped from 6 to 14.
We're still number 2, for now! Go Raiders!  ;D

wait. how can mount dominate the #12 team in the country, on the road, and lose ground in the D3 poll? when that #12 team is still #12? sure, MHB crushed howard payne, but HP also lost by 45 a week ago to hardin simmons.

inexplicable.

Pat Coleman

I think it is explicable as follows:

Last week, UMHB looked vulnerable against a team it should have dominated, and lost six No. 1 votes.
This week, UMHB dominated against a team it should have dominated, and got one of them back.

UMU dominating John Carroll prevented more of them from switching back.
