So, I was unable to watch the game on Sat. but I watched the highlights and read the box score.  I have a few things to mention:

I totally agree on Fulford getting all those carries, but I'm not sure how many were designed runs (like I said, I didn't watch it).  The highlights show a lot of drop backs that he took off and ran.  Also, the JCU D could have been targeting Petro, and this forced Fulford to keep the ball instead of handing it off.  Either way, 21 carries when your up 30 points...I don't like it

Our D, even with suspect play from #24, still has 6 pass break-ups and held JCU to less than 50% completion, and 31% on 3rd down.  That's some good D.  Watching the highlights, it looked like #24 was coming off the edge a lot...can someone confirm that?  If that is the case, it's tough to be a blitzing corner and a cover corner.  Lou Berry was great at it, but he was a senior and was not always great at both.  #24 is a sophomore, and will definitely get better.

Also, our D only gave up 71 yards on the ground on 22 carries.  I think that is great.

One last note to mention...I've never though of Mount as being a ball control kind of team.  Even on long drives, the end in a score, they usually only eat up about 2.5 to 3 minutes.  This year, they are definitely controlling the clock.  They held the ball for 37 mins.  I'm not exactly sure what the difference is, but it seems intentional.  Is it mostly 4th quarter mins, or 2nd half?

I was also a bit disappointed that UMU didn't pick up another vote or two.  I thought they might, but UMHB was pretty awesome in their game.

Now that I'm thinking about it, didn't people get on Tre Jones when he was starting his sophomore year? I feel like people criticized him hard, but he became one of Mounts best corners ever IMO by his senior year. We've beaten our two toughest opponents pretty handily. He will grow as much as he's willing to with the staff as good as they are.

VERY good points!  Both (Berry & Jones)  were maligned at times on these boards earlier in their stint at Mount  ::)

Coach 'em up & let's get better.  I know we are all arm chair QB's that are so finicky/picky/snarky about performances by Mount.  At this time I think they are a semi-final team at worst, and the skies the limit if they keep improving.  My concern is keeping focus with what is going to transpire over the next 7 weeks.

You've been through this drill before. Your opponents won't be much help in getting you better. But coaching, daily focus, and internal drive certainly will. You will skate to the semi's.

Passing along a note for those in the Mount Union Community.

Woodbridge (DE) QB Troy Haynes, who had committed to UMU before beginning a battle with Kidney Cancer back in April, lost his fight over the weekend. My understanding is the Mount Union coaches were excited to see what he could bring to the program, which I can assure you would have been a ton off of the field. Easily one of the nicest kids I've ever had the privilege of covering at the Delaware High School level.

More on his story:

Sorry to hear this about Troy.  It sounds like he was a good kid and great athlete.

JCUStreaks70, bluestreak66 and all John Carroll posters

In spite of the many numerous postings by me, explaining all the many glorious features of Mount Union Stadium, video scoreboard, covered stands et al, I remarked how impressed I was to see the Goodrich, er, Goodyear blimp at your game. I had never seen that at the Dlll level.

However; new information, not previously known, has been brought to my attention. This information was given to me by a person whose integrity can not be impugned. The info is real and can be attested to by, at least, several thousand students and townspeople.

Now! In 1980, on Parent's Day at Mount Union Stadium, because the president of Goodyear was on the Mount Board of Directors, arrangements were made for something special for the occasion. On that day, the Goodyear blimp dominated the skies over Mount Union Stadium. Unheard of at the time, it made a lasting impression on all those within the area. An event still talked about to this day, not only by those in the hallowed halls of ivy, that we call our alma mater, but by residents of Alliance as well.

The point of all this is that, though enamored with your blimp, we pre-dated yours by 39 years. I just want to maintain an accurate historical record of certain events, such as blimp appearances at Dlll football games. Seems Mount Union was, at least 39 years, ahead of its time (or, at least, ahead of your time).

And finally, blimp or no blimp, Mount Union 37 - John Carroll 14.

Enjoy Chicago or wherever you are. Not much joy in University Heights! Go Everybody!  ;D

I also remember a playoff game a number of years ago (I think maybe it was against Simpson, but I am not sure) when the blimp was coming back from somewhere south and east of here (Pittsburgh maybe) and flew several circles around Mount Union Stadium in the middle of the game.  It then headed off to home.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

I was a little surprised to see BW come back and beat Heidelberg this week.  I watched that game, and thought that the 'Berg was the better team.  Obviously, they were way outplayed in the 4th quarter, but they should have been able to win that game.  I'm skeptical that the OAC will see 2 teams in the playoffs this year.  I think that the 'Berg, BW and Marietta can challenge and possible beat JCU.  Also, I can see have 2-3 8-2 teams in the league with UMU at 10-0.  With the CCIW as strong as it is, and potentially the PAC having a 10-0 and 9-1 squads I think it's gonna be tough to get 2 OAC schools in the 32 on selection Sunday.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I think if JCU finishes 9-1 they'll get in due to "reputation of the OAC of the past."  A second place 8-2 team in the OAC probably get's left out.

It's always interesting to keep an eye on who makes the roster for home games as the season rolls on.  Two freshmen this week that I did a double take just based on where they're from:

Hale Siulua, LB, Anchorage, AK
Eduardo Alvala, DB, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Fun facts.... a throwback to the OAC 1968 stats (14 teams in the league)

#11 in Passing.... sophomore Larry Kehres, 51 of 124 for 537 yards.  6 Int and 8 Tds.

Also tied for #21 in Total Offense as he added 8 yards rushing.

Noticed that as well. I wonder if they were received or how they even came to know Mount Union.

I have had the Gooyear blimp over my backyard on occasion. Maybe they were headed to MUC. I thought it was all for ME.

Yeah, we remember the 1980 blimp.  My frat brothers and I mooned it from the front yard.  So glad folks did not have smart-phones with cameras back then!   ::)
