I was happy to see that kind of defensive showing from the Mount D-line and linebackers.  I think that the Berg has some quality athletes, so to shut them out is a big deal and surprise, IMO.  In addition, it was nice to see the O-Line control the game completely.

I would have likes to see Mount's DB's get some work against the Berg passing game though.  I think they are one of the more prolific offenses in the conference, and nation, and were really hamstrung by the weather.

lastly, I'm happy to see Mount back at the top of the polls.  I feel they should have made up more ground prior to these games.  Probably some voters that were close to the fence were pushed over with these results.

Mount Union quarterback D'Angelo Fulford is still the nations leading passer. I cannot recall another Mount Union QB ever in that position, let alone for consecutive weeks. I doubt even Mr. Negative can find anything wrong with that? Maybe he'll just take another cheap shot and leave it alone. I am proud of his position coach,a former teammate.

Kevin Burke was never in that position?

Nothing against Mr. Fulford, but I suspect there have been others with a top ranking.

Of course he was.  So was Micheli.  And Rocco.  And Smeck.  And Bruney.  And I'm sure some of the greats from the 90s but I'm not going to hunt for those records.  But pointing out that Mount Union quarterbacks are ALWAYS at or near the top of the PER list obliterates the point of this weekly update.

A faster and easier way to make that point wally is just to say that Piloto, widely viewed by Mount folks as the opposite end of that spectrum, finished 18th in the nation in PER.  Seaman was 13th.  So the "low point" is a top 20 rating in the nation.

Careful Wally.   Logic and historical perspective have no place in this argument!

The weather in Ohio was absolutely horrible for football yesterday.  I would think the Mount Union's passing yardage may have been the lowest total in decades.  Watched the end of the UMHB game on computer, man were they lucky, but give great credit for getting team on field for last play.  Hard to believe they pulled it off so quickly without procedure.  I think that is why HSU coaches were so irate.

I also watched the end of the game and UMHB is the better team but HSU has there number for this game.  HSU punter got on 18 yard pump off with 1:17 left in the game do give UHMB the ball on HSU 47 and as time is running out UMHB with a 4th and 2 gets kicking team barely on field in time to kick a 43 yard field goal as time runs out.

I didn't see the end of the first half, but from looking at the play by play records the HSU punter had an 8 yard punt that gave UMHB a chance to try to score before the half but the UMHB kicker missed when he hit the crossbar on a 45 yard field goal attempt.

Extremely minor detail but for clarification, the missed FG before halftime was actually wide right not off the crossbar.  He hit the upright on "practice attempt" that came as a result of hsu calling last second timeout to ice him but then came back and missed wider right.  Had plenty of distance on both of them.

There's also the fact that Micheli has the highest career passer rating of any QB in NCAA football history... at any level.

Mount Union quarterback D'Angelo Fulford was 7-13 for 60 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception. You don't have to break up with him or anything, but this might have been the week to "take a break' in the relationship. Here's a link to an article that may help you. Do with it what you will. I'm just trying to help.

Bleedpurple and Mr. Negative....are you the only two who don't know a steady rain affected play all day?  The Heidle QB only attempted 10 passes, about 30 below his average. But acknowledging those facts would spoil your negative narrative wouldn't it.

Not the only ones. Pouring rain in all CCIW contests up in Illinois. IWU was shut out at home vs WashU and their QB threw 4 INTs. Somehow though, Broc Rutter of #7 NCC managed to be 18-22 for 308 yds and 5 TD's in that same sideways weather.

For other reference:

BW QB (rainy and miserable) 15-20 250 yds 1 TD
ETT QB (Rain) 26-40 251 3 TD's
JCU QB (Rain) 10-14 148 yds
Witt QB (Rain) 24-36 252 yds 1 TD

I don't have a negative narrative and I have nothing against "Mount Union quarterback D'Angelo Fulford". It's just that posting effusively about a QB on the heels of a 60 yard, zero TD, one interception passing performance seems over the top. Kind of like seeing a couple making out at a baseball game.  Most people don't love public displays of affection.

+K  Doc, that's an incredible stat.  Those may be the only UMU/MUC QBs who weren't also in the running for All-America honors from this website

Bleedpurple.....did you look up the definition of ,"effusive", in your research?  Or "'public display of affection?"  Are stating facts released by the Mount Union sports information office, "effusive", or  'public displays of affection?"  Or is it stating simple facts?  I am simply stating facts, out of pride in a Raider QB, and his position coach, who have achieved something very singular.
