you know, fulford may not be the greatest mount QB ever, but if he had been able to stay healthy throughout his mount career he could now be chasing a fourth straight championship.

in 2016, with its third-string QB, mount loses to MHB in the semifinals 14-12. that QB, dom davis, was 9-23 for 63 yards and 3 INT. in 5 games fulford was 35-56 (62.5%) with 4 TD and 0 INT. MHB then beat oshkosh 10-7 to win the championship.

in 2017, with fulford healthy, mount goes 15-0 and wins title 12-0 over MHB

in 2018, with fulford clearly limited with a leg injury, MHB edges mount 24-16.

my QB ratings would be:
1. borchert (threw the prettiest and most accurate long passes i've ever seen at mount)
2. ballard
3. micheli
4. burke
5. fulford
6. smeck
7. rocco
8. adamson
9. bruney
10. jorris

taurice scott was terrific, but gets docked for not having played the position long enough

That's a good summary and a fair point.   His unavailability has definitely impacted Mount's playoff results.   Especially the first one with Dom Davis filling in.  That was a good team without a QB.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I introduced my eight year old grandson to Fulford at a BBK last year and he was very nice to the little guy.  Ask him questions and made the night for my grandson.  I came away with a really good impression about him as a person.

The week before the Mount-St.John's mud bowl, the Johnnie QB had thrown, I believe, 7 TD passes.  It was like lighting a fire under Ballard.  Ballard's performance that day, in the inches deep muck and rain, was, I believe, one of the greatest performances by a Mount Union football player.
Gagliardi was incensed over the field conditions and I think this game led Mount to get artificial turf.

My dad has a great story of coaching for his alma mater back in the early 80's. They were playing St. John's at home in the NAIA playoffs and Gags was incensed over the field conditions and having to play at this middle of nowhere Iowa school in a cow pasture. Story goes he was walking around the field sticking a pen into the mud and grumbling (in his Gags voice, it's great to imagine if you ever heard him speak). He got beat pretty badly (with a Jonnie team he'd been on record saying was one of his best prior to the game). Bub Korver, the opposing HC, who won a few National Titles himself, enjoyed the postgame handshake.

My dad loves that story. Along with one out of Pella and a game between Central and SJU in the playoffs in 87. At the meeting the evening before the game Schipper, Gags, and the NCAA rep met, as was custom. The rep asked if everything was set for the game and if there were any questions. Schipper, a legend in his own right, quipped 'not really, except I'm amazed how St. John's won the game last week, since they never appeared to score.' The rep asked what he meant, and Schipper explained that all Johnnie scoring drives had strangely not been present in the film exchanged between coaches. Supposedly a fresh reel was expedited down to Pella. Arrived in the middle of the night, and the Central coaches spent the wee hours of the morning digesting the new intel  ;D

That said, my all time favorite is the one about Walsh and Parcell's. In a previous matchup in the playoffs the power went out in the 49ers press box so teams couldn't call in plays from upstairs. As most know, Walsh scripted his first 15 plays or so, so the outage didn't affect the 49ers, who jumped to a quick lead. Power was miraculously restored later in the first quarter. Fast forward to the next year, Parcell's tells Walsh pregame, he'd allerted the league and wouldn't stand for any more "power outages" this year. Walsh supposedly just chuckled, slapped Parcell's on the back and said "just a little gamesmanship Bill, just a little gamesmanship." I wonder if Belichick was lurking nearby when the conversation happened  :o ;D

Lol, points for consistency then! I don't share that to denigrate John by the way, it just adds color to his well deserved legend.

Those are fair points on Fulford's injury history and a good spot in the ranking. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's playing for Mount Union as opposed to JCU, etc. He had definitely improved while at Mount with his arm strength, touch, carelessness, throwing back shoulder, etc. I'm nitpicking here, but I just wish in year 4 of the system that he would be more on time with balls thrown into routes and not once a guy is open because he won't always have that time come the 2nd, 3rd or 4th week in December playing aggressive/good defenses. Does that make sense?

I do disagree with your idea about Scott though, mainly because other guys you've mentioned have only won 1 title at QB and so did Taurice. His one year as starter, he had 44 tds-5 int with an additional 850 years rushing with 13 TDs.  I think having 82 catches in a Stagg Bowl runner up season is a nice touch bc he was behind Burke (rare 3 year starter).

Block and tackle well... Win and advance.

That's a common problem at the HS level.  One opposing HC in particular was an ass when it came to film exchange.  The standard was the previous 3 games to be exchanged on Friday night in person.  So your scouts would take VHS film of your most recent 3 games and swap film before that game.  Pretty normal stuff.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's this particular school was one of the first HS teams I knew of in NE Ohio to run what is now commonly known as the spread.  4 or 5 WR's, shotgun and throwing it 40+ times a game.  Quite cutting edge at that time when most schools were some version of the I-fullback, wing-T, wishbone or other run heavy offense.

Anyway, his film was zoomed in so tight that all you saw was the 5 lineman and the QB in teh shotgun.  Never saw the rest of the formation or the routes being run, nor who they actually threw it to.  Only got to see the QB throw the ball if he stayed directly behind the center.  The camera wouldn't move with the action, stayed stationary until the play was over.  Then it would move to the new line of scrimmage to repeat the same dance again.

So after a few years of my HC complaining to the league who in turn would only send a "sternly written letter" to the opposing HC which was of course ignored, our HC decided to return the favor.

Our school had run the same unbalanced right-handed veer/option based offense since the 60's.  Every year the same basic offense.  However this one particular season we had a rather smart group and expanded the offense to include flipping the entire offense to be unbalanced left or right, or balanced.  On a play to play basis, we would flip our entire offensive alignment around.

So to return the favor, we took the film from 2 years ago and switched the sticker on it to be the current game.  He chose the game 2 yrs ago because the league schedule was set in stone so you played the same teams the same weeks of the season.  Therefore the game location & home/away uniforms made sense.

This pre-dates cell phones so the only way to get hold of someone was via home phone or thru the school.  So it takes until Sunday afternoon for the opposing staff to realize the films were incorrect.  Our HC doesn't answer either of his phones until Monday and plays completely dumb.  Apologizes profusely and promises to drive the good films up to them after practice.  So LATE Monday night, he has one of the assistants drop off the films from 4 years ago.  Which of course it takes them until sometime on Tuesday to figure out.  So we repeat this again on Wednesday night with films 6 years old.   ;D

Anyway, they used all 3 of their timeouts on defense in the first quarter as we were completely confusing them.  Those poor kids had no idea where to line up.  It was a thing of beauty and quite entertaining to watch the opposing HC's head explode.

Great story.  I've been similar situations like that, and I've found out that if this coach does it to one team (even the rival) he does it to everyone.  We had a coach who did something similar (always a "tight" shot from low stands with the video always shaking).  After a while coaches in the league just shared this teams films with everyone.  When it came down to exchange film we used to tell the guy "forget it, your films suck we don't need any".  Who knows what coaches shared in the league and it was always a fascinating dynamic trying to figure out which coaches were buddies and who was sharing which films.

What brought me here though is a coach this week (I also coach HS football up in MA) who gave us two films, one of them is an endzone shot from the ground level!  I'm not 100% sure if the guy meant to be an ass about it because you do get a lot of nice shots of alignment when the play was in the endzone that was being filmed but in general it was a tight shot as well.

I'll bet the school's colors were green and white...the HC was also a joy to interview pregame..."Well, coach what is your thoughts on tonight's opponent? " Answered:  "I don't know, what are your thoughts?"
