I think the unfortunate reality for Mount's pass defense is the teams they have faced.

Heidelberg should have given us a test in regards to passing defense, but that game was so rainy and windy, neither team threw the ball well or very often.

JCU was down this year throwing the ball, so they posed a small threat.  They threw for 180+ yards, 40 of which on a screen pass. No picks, 1 sack.  They only had 3 TFLs, but held the Streaks to less than 100 yards rushing.

I expected BW to have more success throwing the ball, but alas only 7 points.  The did throw for over 200 yards, but had 2 picks and gave up 3 sacks.  Mount also had 8 TFLs in that game.

I'm not sure of their strategy on defense, but I think it's something like this.  Rely on the front 3-4 players to put pressure on the QB, and keep him contained.  Then drop back LB's and 5 DB's and make the other team find a hole.  So far, it's been pretty successful.  Yes, there have been a few big plays, but there have also been a lot of 2-3 yard plays.  If they are covering 4-5 receivers with 7 players, it makes it hard to get open.  Corners push everything to middle, LB's play zone and split the middle of the field.  Safety's cover over top and split the field into 3rds.  It's difficult to find the open man when the defense is splitting coverage between man and zone and changing on a consistent basis.  It makes for perfect throws and perfect timing to be consistent.  The X factor is ability for Mount's athletes to make plays.  They swarm to the football, and make open field tackles (most of the time).

If the NCC match-up happens in the 2nd round, I assure they will not be looking to line up a young, inexperienced DB on Kamienski.  I imagine (at least I would) there would be extra precautions to know where is he is on every play.  I'm guessing they will ahve LB's play underneath, safties play over top and man up on him.  Kamienski has 85 receptions on the year.  The next 3 top receivers combined have 91.  I think they will be pretty safe paying a lot of attention to Kam, and forcing Rutter to throw somewhere else.  Also, Wheaton held NCC to 85 yards rushing on 38 carries. 2.2 yards per rush.  7 sacks and 10 TFL's.  I know Wheaton has a heck of a D line, but Mount's is not too shabby.  They also split the time of possession nearly in half with Wheaton.  This year, Mount has been able to hold on to the ball a lot longer, while scoring just as many points.

As for NCC on defense.  I just don't seem them slowing Mount down.  They gave up more than 350 yards passing with 5 TD's to Wheaton and no picks.  Also only 2 sacks and 6 TFL's.  Mount has been tremendous this season at avoiding negative plays, being one of the top teams in TFL's allowed.  I think Mount will spread them out and pick them apart passing the ball and throw in some wild cat, a few more Fulford/Petro RPO plays.  My last point to make is JUSTIN HILL.  They will need to double him in almost every situation.  I think he is as good as any Mount receiver ever, including Garcon and Shorts.  IF they are able to limit his production and ever eliminate the big plays, I think the rest of the receiving corps is good enough to make up the difference.

I'll take Mount in that game 52-17

Does anyone know if there is a d3 bracket challenge this year? I usually enter the d3 photography challenge, but I can't find a link.

Thank you!

We have a 5 Time District Champion in our Conference (Districts are different than Conferences down here) and he nominated me for the honor.

I am very appreciative!

Sweet!  Congrats K & J D.  I can honestly say "I met that guy"!  It was at one or three of the Stagg Bowls in Salem.  Keep up the good work & keep that FL to Mount pipeline flowing.
