Not understanding how D3 puts travel costs ahead of a proper bracket, they are allowed to be a little miffed.  Ignoring how the teams got into this bracket, Mount should have hosted Wabash and Hanover should have played at Bridgewater, based on the seeds.  Based on T25 rankings, they should have played at Del Val.

And their last four seasons, they were 2-8, 4-6, 4-6, and 7-4.  They have a right to be proud, but like Yertle the Turtle, they are only the king of what they can survey.

Thanks!  "Yertle" should be required reading for every manager.

YUP!

3rd and 19 at REDLANDS48   Luke Poorman pass complete to Luke Poorman for loss of 6 yards to the UMHB46 (Brandon Serrano).

That was on old MUC play from the late 1970s ... the Toth-to-Toth pass.
Extra points for the name of receiver who he hit in the back with that pass.

Oh wow ... let's see ... Parent's Day weekend game ... I thought it was a running back who turned his back just as the ball was thrown.  In that case, I'd have to guess Claude Charlillo.

Paul Gulling?  I was there and remember the PA announcer saying, "pass from Toth to Toth"  I believe he scored a TD on the play.

Greetings from Grand Rapids, MI.  Had a work thing this weekend but was able to keep up on Twitter what was happening.  Thoughts:
1.  Either Aurora was much better than advertised or SJU is in trouble.

Theoretically possible that Aurora is a team on the come, IF it can keep the head coach.  Could be a pretty big if.

https://www.d3football.com/columns/features/2019/aurora-balling-out-for-beebe

Don Beebe was born in Aurora, grew up a half-hour away in Maple Park, and spent a long time as the head coach of Aurora Christian HS. That's also where he's run his Beebe's House of Speed camps. Unless a CCIW gig opens up in Chicagoland or somebody offers him the NIU job, I doubt that he's going anywhere.

I keep looking for some thoughts on the game Saturday.

Here's my unsophisticated opinion.
Two high-powered offenses going at it. Each led by a standout QB. Both teams able to run the ball at will.
However; I don't see a repeat of 2013 (a 41-40 Mount victory).
North Central WILL score some points, but Mount Union's defense will not allow them to score more than us.
Not clever enough to predict a score, but I think we win by a 1 or 2 TD margin. It could even be a 3 TD  difference.
Mount's defense rises to the occasion.

Any other thoughts? Go Raiders! ☠ 🏈 ❗️

Mount's defense is solid, but lacks the elite pass rush from the D-line that many of the previous championship teams had.  LB's are a strength,  but it worries me that we'll need to blitz to get pressure.

As always, you have great insight on the fundamentals. Your points are well taken.

Anybody else?  ;D

Ah, nice to see that Mount fans get to talk game strategy before the semis.  ;)  Seriously, this looks like a real good football games.  If I was NCC I would worry that Mount will be able to do to them what Wheaton did and make the adjustments to shut them down in the second half.  I am not sure that this will end up as a track meet with the winner reaching 50, I think the score will end up similar to the Wheaton/NCC game.  One score going into the 4th quarter with Mount scoring to get breathing room.  I will be keeping track of the game while I am at the Wesley/Del Val game.  Now on a selfish note, I will be pulling for NCC so that Wesley, with a win against Del Val, gets a home game the following week.

I have said I think this game will be lower scoring, in line w Wesleydad. I could be wrong as UMU's strength at WR is NCC's Achilles heel. The Cardinals like to play a lot of man to man on defense, especially with bump and run corners. Jake Beasley is a lock down corner and 1st team all CCIW. He couldn't really guard the Wheaton WR's  and Wheaton did a nice job putting their best WR in the slot to draw safety coverage. Wheaton probably hit 4-6 big plays plays that was the difference.

On the other other side, UMU has to be able to get pressure with 4. If they blitz, Rutter and their system is really good. They have 1 stud WR and another tall playmaker. their RB rarely gets tackled for loss and is also a great receiver. Very potent offense. #1 in the country for a reason. They have scored on their first possession in every game all year.

This sets up as a shootout but somehow I feel like its going to be a 34-31 type game. No rational reason for that, just a hunch. I think the line will open UMU -9.5

bluestreak66

I guess this week we'll see if NCC should have finished ahead of JCU in the final regional poll!
I suspect that this will be Mount's toughest test to date, and while I do favor them to win, this is probably the first game they've played this season that I could reasonably see them losing. I truly believe North Central might be the 3rd or 4th best team in the country.

My prediction is Mount 42 - NCC 20. Tight game at half, but DA and Hill put it out of reach in the 3rd Q on a couple big plays.
