Every year is a new year, and the games which will help people make those determinations will be played here over the next few weeks, for sure.

Pat,  I couldn't even carry the ax that Purple is using to grind against the "evil empire" that is D3 football.com.   :)  However, the fact that DA hasn't garnered any awards (top awards) from your organization is questionable at the least, and suspect at the most.  I personally don't care about the awards, but I think the kid gets shaded because of the who/what/where he came from & any indiscretions the KID made when he was 17.

FACTS

Voted 3 time best QB in the OAC
Stagg Championship QB as a sophomore
Stagg Bowl runner-up as a junior (on one wheel)
Billion TD's against minute interception

Cumulatively the kid has been amazing.  We as Mount fans are a hard bunch to please.  Not me personally but some on this board.  The kid has been exceptional for "Broward County OG".  I think Purple has overreacted defending DA.  I would prefer that vs. throwing him under the bus that many wanted to do when "the incident" happened.

Looking forward to an exciting game on Saturday.  The Skunk crew will be with a bunch of family (as per the last almost 20 years) at Pancho's pregame & any and all are welcome.

Pat, can I get away with a ball-soaker joke without being tossed?    ;)

Our opinion probably falls somewhere in the vast distance between purple and, say, HSCoach. It was also difficult to really evaluate him last year because he was clearly not healthy when playing against the best teams on the schedule. I thought second-team All-Region behind Rutter was the right call last year. Not every starting Mount Union quarterback is automatically the best in the region.

The All-America quarterbacks were Erdmann, Tammaro, Rutter and Wartburg's Matt Sacia. Definitely room for debate last year between Fulford and Sacia. Both were clearly better than Germinerio, the top East QB, and Hayden Bauserman, the No. 2 South QB. But I think Erdmann was a valid No. 1 QB last year, and I think it was even said on this board that if you had Tammaro last year, you win the whole thing.

Fulford against John Carroll, Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins last year, I assume you remember the numbers. It's not exactly billions against minute -- that's bill Borchert, right? All decisions were announced before the UMHB game, so that wasn't taken into account.

One of the reasons I am making the trip this weekend is to watch Rutter and Fulford.

Pat, thank for the insight and information on the QB discussion.
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I am sure that any player worth his salt would rather win a championship than receive personal accolades.  That being said, Mount Union has been justly rewarded and recognized over the years by d3 and others.  No argument here that DA was passed over last year.  He was shaded by the "incident" and I personally believe that character should be considered in post season recognition at any level, but DIII puts a premium on it.  After all was said and done, it appears to have gone away, but at the time was somewhat significant.

I agree completely.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Fair analysis Pat.  I think this playoff run will prove one way or another where DA fits on the national scene.  I think the regular season performance gets minimalized a bit because it's against primarily inferior opponents.

The UMU game notes suggest the live video will be available on a pay per view basis.  Is that the case for NCAA playoff games?

It said the same thing last week and it was free.  I don't think they're allowed to charge for playoff games.

They're not allowed to, correct. Clearly just a remnant of regular-season notes. Last week's video broadcast was free and was properly set up from the get-go.

I was at the game last week in Alliance and I had the video feed on my phone for most of the second half. The video streaming was sourced to a NCAA page and appeared to be the same video as shown on the scoreboard in the stadium.  I watched some of the replay videos on the scoreboard then a few seconds later I could watch same replay on my phone.

I didn't see the whole game online, but there was one play where they didn't have the replay and I really wish they had. It looked like the Mount player had been tackled and was down, but then he jumps up and runs for a TD while the Hanover players had stopped. I gathered from the commentators that he had landed on a Hanover player and only his hand had touched the ground. But they said no replay was available. What actually happened on that play and who was involved?

You can see the play in the Mount Union highlight video.  He was never down, spinnig off three attempted tackles.  The play starts at around 3:48.  http://athletics.mountunion.edu/sports/fball/2019-20/videos/20191123-vtpn2jj1

Awesome! Thank you for the link. I like how the two defensive guys totally gave up on the play thinking he was down.
