This one sucks but I'm way more concerned about 2020 and 2021, I'll gladly take a second round loss if  we get at least one Canton Championship!

I knew the pass defense was bad but didn't think our d would give up 59.

At least there was a good turnout in attendance at the game as the total was listed at 3227. That is an improvement from recent years for this playoff game at Mount Union as on the past people have mentioned that the combination of Thanksgiving weekend, weather and perhaps opponent has had an effect on the crowd total. It was good to see a sizeable crowd there and I'm assuming some good community and student support this time?

To my Mount friends, sorry your team lost as obviously much more was expected. But it just wasn't their day today, although they had a good season, despite not to the expectations or to their potential. Congratulations to NCC for a great game also and ayimg to the very end. Sometimes it just works out.

The problem with attendance in round 2 is OSU vs. Michigan at the same time.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

For sure, that certainly is a factor as well.

Best performance against Mount Union that I have ever seen.  Inability to get to Rutter was key.  Central's skill was every bit as good across the board as Mount Union and I, even as a life-long Purple Raider, have to concede to an amazing performance.  NOW, don't leave it here, go finish the job. Congratulations Cardinals.

2013 Stagg Bowl, 52-14? The team that beat Mount actually played defense that night as well as scored 50+ points.

Unfortunately, have to concur. That was the best game I have seen played against the Purple Raiders. I would argue the 2014 game was equal or better than this, as well. Take nothing away from the Cardinals, though. Mount kept daring NCC to beat them from the pocket, and that was* exactly what Rutter did. Kept going back to the well until the Raiders (didn't) stop them.

Every year is a new year, and the games which will help people make those determinations will be played here over the next few weeks, for sure.

Pat,  I couldn't even carry the ax that Purple is using to grind against the "evil empire" that is D3 football.com.   :)  However, the fact that DA hasn't garnered any awards (top awards) from your organization is questionable at the least, and suspect at the most.
...
Cumulatively the kid has been amazing.  We as Mount fans are a hard bunch to please.  Not me personally but some on this board.

Our opinion probably falls somewhere in the vast distance between purple and, say, HSCoach. It was also difficult to really evaluate him last year because he was clearly not healthy when playing against the best teams on the schedule. I thought second-team All-Region behind Rutter was the right call last year. Not every starting Mount Union quarterback is automatically the best in the region.

The All-America quarterbacks were Erdmann, Tammaro, Rutter and Wartburg's Matt Sacia. Definitely room for debate last year between Fulford and Sacia. Both were clearly better than Germinerio, the top East QB, and Hayden Bauserman, the No. 2 South QB. But I think Erdmann was a valid No. 1 QB last year, and I think it was even said on this board that if you had Tammaro last year, you win the whole thing.

Fulford against John Carroll, Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins last year, I assume you remember the numbers. It's not exactly billions against minute -- that's bill Borchert, right? All decisions were announced before the UMHB game, so that wasn't taken into account.

One of the reasons I am making the trip this weekend is to watch Rutter and Fulford.

So Pat, how you gonna figure this out? Thoughts on what you saw?

most amazing mount game since the one against wesley when joe callahan was the QB.

All respect to Joe, he was a phenomenal QB, maybe the best Ive seen In d3 in person, but the 2013 game was never  really in question, it felt like Mount took their foot off the gas in the 4th, I'd put a lot of other offense performances against Mount above this one, even though the score was so crazy.

Have to agree with Warhawk.  The 2013 UWW team played defense for a full game, while NCC only played defense in the second half today.  59 pts. against the Machine ties the 2013 Wesley output for the most points against the Raiders since 1998... only difference was that Mount Union d. Wesley with a much weaker defense.

I went digging to try and find the last time that Mount gave up 59.  I didn't have to dig very far.  I'm pretty sure the last time they gave up at least that much in a LOSS, though, was a 66-8 loss to Wittenberg on October 18, 1958.  Though I didn't double check that, so feel free to fact check me.

If these comments sound uninformed, it's OK. I've done it before.

What the hell was that defensive plan yesterday?

We're playing against one of the very best QBs in the country. So we only rush 3 down linemen. No pressure on the QB. He could read a book back there while he looks for the open receiver. Once, we blitzed and forced him to throw it away. Don't recall seeing that again.

Ah, but you say, that means we had 8 men back on coverage. Really? Not so you would notice. Their receivers were open all day long. I think flooding the zone and throwing that slant pass would have worked forever! I got the feeling that when NCC had the ball, they would score. And they often did.

Let's give credit to North Central. They're a quality team. Makes you wonder how Wheaton beat them. (Makes Wheaton sound scary). These 2 could meet in the Stagg.

Bottom line. Mount Union has outstanding athletes, many of them on the defensive side of the ball.
Did the coaches take away their ability to win with that questionable defensive scheme?

Ah well, there's' always next year. Go Raiders!

In the conversation of greatest ever?  Not with 3 TO's and a loss in the 2nd round.  Sorry Lavender.

I don't think he's the greatest ever, or perhaps even in the Top 5. But bizarre timing to take a shot at him when he accounted for 549 yards passing (a record?), an additional 124 yards rushing (record for QB?), and 6 totals TDs.

Clearly DA has reasons to be criticized and his placement in Mount Union history is up for debate, but IMO there's no question he played winning football yesterday.

I guess VK could've put him in at safety or something.

Tough loss Mount fans... I watched the game with my dad, who was a 4 year starter at NCC in the 70s and needless to say I was very excited for him for the win.. I told him on Friday night that it was going to look like a Big 12 shootout and that NCC was going to have to respond to the Mount moments where they usually turn it on... The interception in the second was that moment and I said that how North Central responded to start the second half would tell us where this game was going to go.. A true game for the ages and it was fun watching with a North Central man.. Now I will be joining him next Saturday in Naperville, hoping they can replicate the run JCU did in 2016 (but hopefully they can win it all).
