Total speculation based upon whispers on the wind.   8-) ;D

Barring an NCAA investigation or dropping the football program I don't see any potential "Big shoe" that could drop. Don't think LK retiring as AD is a huge deal. I guess if the entire coaching staff also left for some reason that would be a big deal.

Don't overlook Mike Elder.  He is a fine coach and a Mount Hall of Famer, however, it may be Dartt's job for the asking.  I just worry about his health.  He is a fine guy and has overcome some serious health issues. The stress of the head position may be a burden he does not wish to take on.  He is superbly qualified and has proven he would be a fine choice.

LK carries a lot of weight within the administration.   His retirement would be a bigger loss than VK resigning and heading to Toledo in my opinion.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of unexpectedness. He's 70, his actual retirement should be something the program is ready for.

If anyone thinks this is not significant they have not been paying attention to Mount football over the last 30 years.  There was an administrator that wanted to put his educational stamp on Mount football way back and at that time LK won that power struggle.  Who's going to fight that fight in the future?

Exactly.  The fight between the academic snobs and the dumb jocks is as old as college athletics. Mount football program has won that fight for a lot longer than I ever expected.   Sounds like that position of strength is about to end in June.

It just figures.  Mount has been dominant for 25+ years.  NCAA moves the Stagg to Canton and the wheels come off.

From what I'm hearing, the JCU's of the world should be rejoicing. Not saying Mount won't be competitive and perhaps even be a title contender, but the reign and era is officially over. OAC will be wide open much sooner than later.

From the Agenda For A New President:

Supporting a Strong Athletic Tradition
When seeking points of distinction, one must look at the tradition of Mount Union's successful Division III athletic program. With 13 national championships in football as well as one indoor and two outdoor track and field championships in the last five years, the Purple Raiders' program provides an example from which other programs at UMU can glean insights about developing and promoting specific aspects of selected curricular, extra-curricular, and co-curricular programs. Roughly 40 percent of incoming first-year classes are engaged on campus as student-athletes, a distinction which has supported overall enrollment, alumni involvement, fund raising, and marketing efforts at Mount Union.

Hopefully this will not be overlooked by a new administration.

12-0 = 13

LK embodies the strength of the athletic dept. and this is a big blow.  But money talks.  We are not Cap.  I can't see any way that a Mount Union board selects an egghead anti-athletics president like Bowman was at Cap. Many of the school's largest donors, led by Steve Harter's incredible generosity, are staunch supporters of strong athletics.

A few things the new administration will quickly realize upon taking office, (1) Mount Union football alumni have contributed millions of dollars to the school, especially in the last ten years. The latest example is Dom Capers donation of $2.5 M. Numerous other football alumni have made six figure donations just in the past two years. (2) About 100 young men enroll each year at UMU because of the football program. (3) Mount Union has national recognition because of the football program.
Older Alumni like me remember where the school was before LK; declining enrollment, old buildings, substandard facilities, and lots of transfers.
The history of UMU can be divided into Before LK and After LK. The impact of the Kehres effect can scarcely be understated.
