The more I talk with people the more Kyle Miller's name comes up. I like him a lot and think he would have a good temperament to be the guy as well. He builds good relationships, recruits well, has experience that few do (in NFL for 5 years).

I'm hoping for any of these former Mount Union players) coaches.
Kappas
Miller
Sirianni (has D3 head coaching experience)
Kostelnik (great HS coach with connections for recruiting)
Elder (great HS coach with connections for recruiting)

hsbsballcoach7,

If I had any input, my choices might be:

M. Sirianni- proven history as a D3 HC, but would he come back to Mount?
Kyle - Miller, for the reasons you stated
Dart - Offensive experience
Kostelnik
13 time Division III National Champions

Small but Slow

These are changes we should celebrate.  LK deserves to retire while still young enough to enjoy it. VK was going to have difficulty getting out of his father's shadow at Mount, and an MAC position coach is a smart forward advancement for him.  LK takes pride in the school and program and isn't going to leave it in worse shape than he found it.  The next head coach will not be a replacement, but will be someone LK trusts to take the program forward within the goals and expectations of the administration.  I doubt either was forced out by the president or board.  LK would not back down from that type of challenge.  After over 30 years, the next chapter begins.  The landscape of D3 is different than it was in 1986.  I expect the new coach will be prepared for the challenges it presents.

whoever they hire id imagine will probably be younger and if successful likely to take bigger jobs if they are able too in the future. I wonder if this is something we'll have to worry about from now on. We were lucky Larry stayed as long as he did. Hopefully because of past success Mount stays atop d3. Whitewater seems to have weathered Leipold leaving and still been getting really good players and remain in the top 5 every year (except for a little hiccup.............

Best of luck to Coach V Kehres- I hope his career path continues to take him to great opportunities.
A giant thank you to the Kehres family, they truly made D3 football great as they showed the possibilities at this level.

One good note is VK won't be taking staff (I assume) with him, so MT should still be in a good position  to roll.

For what it's worth, I think these two statements contradict each other. I definitely agree LK would not back down from the challenge, but he does deserve to enjoy his retirement, and to fight that type of challenge (hypothetical though it might be) would take time and energy away from his grandkids and whatever other plans he has for retirement.

Good point. If he ends up as the DC, he might get to bring someone else along, but I would presume as a linebackers coach that would be unlikely.

worst coached game should have title good riddance

You should clarify which of the following you mean:

1)  Good riddance to VK.

2)  Good riddance to Raider 68 for his comments about "worst coached game, etc."

3)  Good riddance to Mount fans because many others share the views of Raider 68.

If you're actually an 76 SE grad I'm pretty damn sure you do NOT mean the first possibility but a lot of people reading this board could - and will - misinterpret your comment.  (See Wally Wabash's comment immediately following yours, for instance.)

Another name to watch....Zac Bruney.

I KNOW NOTHING!!!!

However, if Geoff Dartt is healthy enough to be the head coach I would be surprised if he isn't the next head coach.

Again....I KNOW NOTHING!   8-)

If be happy with just about ALL of the names that we've brought up, so I'm sure LK will have some good choices and tough questions to ask the candidates.  How soon do you all think this gets done? 2 weeks, 1 month, ? If bet on sooner.

If its someone on the staff, say Dart, I bet within a few days. I really do believe he's the obvious choice. Makes the most sense. Keep the rest of the staff the same. Larrys son in law and Im betting Larry wouldn't hesitate to help him out maybe check out a game tape or two in his free time wherever he may be enjoying his retirement ..

I have to wonder how hard it's going to be for LK to stay away completely.  All of a sudden a guy who loves football and loves Mount has loads of free time?  I don't think he'll be involved in any big official capacity because I'm sure he does want to step away and let the next HC run things, but as you said I can see him checking out some game film, working with Plunk, etc.
