Seeing rumors that YSU's new head coach is hiring JCU's defensive coordinator. I believe they worked together at Iowa State.

I heard this rumor, but never saw it anywhere. This would be a big loss for JCU. Their defense has maintained a high level for years!

The La Crosse Tribune reported that Schaefer was a Top-2 Finalist for the UW-La Crosse job before the Eagles decided to stay in house with their hire.

I missed that news about Pelini leaving YSU as I have been consumed of recent. However, what do you guys think about that, and the new HC hire there? Also, that obviously would be a great opportunity for Schaefer (and perhaps one of those situations in life where one disappointment turns into a different blessed opportunity), but I agree with you it would be a loss for JCU. I also wonder how many of those other assistant coaches at YSU will be looking for new jobs? Always a fearful time for assistants when a coaching change is made, yet they know that is just part of the game ( business.)

I have a bit of insight on this as I'm both a YSU and Mount Union fan. According to the YSU message boards ALL of the assistant coaches are out except for the o line coach and the strength coach.

The new hire has been a little controversial, us YSU fans are always hoping for a splashier name to come in because of the programs history, but overall folks seem excited about coach Phillips. The Pelini Era was incredibly disappointing. We got one national title run, which was flukey because we weren't even the best team in our conference that year, but since then it's been mediocrity. Plus Pelini gave us one of the most embarrassing losses in program history when we lost to non- scholarship Butler.

But anyway, Phillips worked with Matt Campbell at Iowa State and mentioned him a few times during his press conference which was very encouraging to hear and a cool.

Biggest problem with YSU recently has been recruiting and it sounds like coach Phillips is placing a priority on it, so we are hopeful.

Also I meant no offense in the losing to Butler comment, obviously I have a ton of respect for non scholarship football, It was just the biggest upset of all time for YSU.

YSU hiring Phillips was a little puzzling considering he hasn't been a head coach since the mid 2000's and that was at the high school level. However, he has incredible connections locally, which should help with recruiting.

All that being said, I bet VK would have had a real look at the job if he wouldn't have taken the Toledo position

Good interview with Justin Hill on getting ready for the draft.

reality check

Well boys...

I applied.  I was one of 8 finalists asked to interview.  I felt great about my panel interview today.  Thought I nailed it.  But I got a canned email response tonight that "they're going in a different direction."

I am happy I put myself out there.  I am glad I chased it.  I will likely accept the OC position at the school I've been teaching at for 11 years now.  They've been hounding me to come back every offseason for the last four years but I liked what I had going.  I will sit on this for a couple days but I just wanted to update the message board since I came on here about it a few weeks back.

Thanks gentlemen (and hscoach).   ;)

"Going in a different direction."  I absolutly hate that phrase.

I'm sorry to hear you did not get the job, but I'm betting other opportunities will come you way.

Sorry to hear your didn't get it, but the interview process itself can be a good thing too.  Makes you more comfortable for the next opportunity.  Good luck with your next assignment.

For the record, I've been called worse!   ;D
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Raider 68

Heard yesterday that Chris Kappas will move to OC, and the DC will be a former Raider. Also Jasper Collins will be on
the staff for 2020. :)

I like it! I heard Collins name floated around, but didn't think he would come back. Nice to see the staff come together. It doesn't hurt to have multiple coaches on your staff with professional football playing experience.
