I thought, early on, that the Muskies were showing more promise than in the past.
Those with a higher football IQ than me wish to elaborate?

You were a "real" airman. I was Air Force Intelligence (oxymoron) at the Pentagon.
You served many years, me, only a few.
Thank you for your service.

Having watched a few practices, it was no surprise Mount Union's very talented receivers dominated.  Can you imagine what LK's reaction would have been to Mukie's special teams comedy of errors? LK would be the new special teams coach this morning.
Does anyone know how it came to be thee, count them, three freshman started on the O-Line?

My guess is that some seniors are not on the roster this semester, maybe saving some money. I swear I saw that Frazier Daniel was granted another year of eligibility because of his injuries and he's not in the roster. This spring will be important for Plunk and the WRs to establish a rapport together, get 3 RBs (Petro, Parker and Redmond) quality carries without injuries, establish depth on the oline and figure out who you are going to play on defense....

Jaden Manley is a talented player, but Mount has had many talented slot receivers the last 3 years that didn't get the ball. The last time Mount really used the slot was with Taurice Scott throwing to Tim Kennedy. Fulford had tons of talent, but was nervous throwing over the middle it seemed.

Was anyone else a little concerned with the defense? I know we only gave up 12 points, but I was surprised at the number of sustained -lengthy drives the Muskies were able to put together. The D just didnt look quite as dominant as I'd hoped, at least in the first half.

I thought the same thing. Don't want to do that against John Carroll.

Yes, similar thought. I'm giving Ely a chance with lots of new guys before saying too much. I did like the effort from some of the new Dlinemen and LBers. I used to criticize VK for being over aggressive with the blitzes, but I think that actually helped the defensive backfield perform better in the past. Maybe sending more blitzes is what is needed. In this day and age, every offense should be scoring points. Against the great teams (UWW, NCC, UMHB, SJU, etc) you really just need 3-4 stops per game if you have that great offense. Any of you guys seeing that from the past teams?

They haven't played a real game in 15 months. Bound to be some rough spots.

They'll be fine.

Good points all around. The D looked confused - and maybe a bit tentative. They looked like they were "thinking" as the play was happening - and for years we have heard LK and VK talk about weakening an opponent by creating a "conflict of assignment". If you can make the D think about what they are supposed to do it slows them down and gives the O an advantage. However, Musky looked decent. They have some talent at QB and RB. To the Raiders - experience is what they need. A bunch of starters have moved on and the ones remaining have not played a meaningful snap in 15 months. The game was easier, IMHO, for the offenses. Offense runs the plays - D has to read and react and they aren't there yet.

On offense - Plunk throws a really nice deep ball. It doesn't have the high arc like Jorris, it doesn't wobble like Fulford - just a really nice, on-target, deep ball. The 2nd TD was a great throw - over the DB shoulder, on the sideline, and in stride. Kid looks good....so far. Petro looks rested (a Captain Obvious statement) but also a bit rusty. Missed some cutbacks - I was surprised to see him not score. The line was ok - needs work as expected with 3 FR. up front. It will make JCU and BW interesting for sure. The WR look good - but a lot of that is the product of the QB. Good hands, good speed - Ruby looks to have a really nice Spring.

The coaches seemed to adjust as the game went on. A big adjustment on both sides of the ball. GD did a nice job with play selection - didn't seem home run happy (which had to be tough in the 1st game). DE made some good calls as well, wasn't blitz happy, maybe not aggressive enough but a good start.

Because of protocols I didn't even drive down (NO TAILGATING!?) and eat pizza. Instead I drove north of Detroit and got a car. Detroit is a s$!& hole - anyone who says otherwise is blind or from Detroit. What an absolute crap hole. However, Troy area was nice and I like my car. Now on to JCU.

Without a doubt Plunk is special. However, I was really disappointed with the running game.  A win is a win sure but this was as one dimensional as I can recall seeing a Raider team.  They showed some toughness after JC tied it at 14. Players and Coaches both showed poise. Great 2nd half adjustments by DE. Nice win now lets get Petro in the endzone.
