Why is the championship game being played in Alliance? Heidelberg has a better record plus the game day atmosphere is much better at The Berg.

Like last week, this game probably goes down to the wire. I expect Heidelberg to put up a lot of points, but it's going to come down to their defense. Hopefully the Berg D can cause some turnovers and make some big stops.

I guess with all the down time my "nit pick" is off a bit. So I just want to get in some reps.

Game day atmosphere? With limited attendance and no gathering? Really? How much better is it with 200 people at berg as opposed to 200 in Alliance? That's ok - I will go with the assumption that it would have been better....add in 35-0 visitor at half. Now whats the atmosphere?
Not even going to touch the down to the wire. Berg has had some outstanding teams in the past - 2011 to 2014ish - and those were not down to the wire...close with the 10 pt game one year. Berg is not going down to the wire with 45 total yards in 1st half.

2nd half...alot could change. It is why we play the games.

The OAC game sites were predetermined when the schedule was initially set.
Word is that a few players are not returning for the fall, when they could, because of tuition costs.  Cannot blame them. Thousands of dollars for a football season is a high price.
I also heard from a student that a few that opted out of the spring are coming back for the fall.  So, maybe it balances out.  I see the spring as a chance to get a very young offensive line prepared for the future.
I don't know who #73 is, but he was a beast pulling and leading sweeps in the Berg game.

I heard an interesting story about the 2013 Marietta v. Mount Union football game, won by Mount 84-13. I was having a discussion with a knowledgeable source about the high score of the Heidelberg game. Mount usually doesn't score much over fifty points against a conference team. He indicated the coach was concentrating so hard on the game he didn't think to let up. He then told me about the 84-13 game against Marietta. Seems the Mount Union basketball team was treated very badly at Marietta by football players, who ringed the court, in Mount's last away game. They were rude, obnoxious, and attempted to intimidate the Raider athletes. The staff at Marietta, who could have put a stop to it did nothing. Mount won but the experience left a real bad taste in the coaches mouths. The football coaches took notice of their brethren distress and decided to teach the Marietta football players a lessen in humility.

2/23/13 Marietta won 80-76 in OAC Tournament Finals at Marietta

Offensive Stats for that Football Game:

T. Scott 5 Rushes 99 yds 2 TDs
G. Woods 16 Rushes 76 yds 2 TDs

Sounds similar to when I was at Hiram. Mounts Bball team played at Hiram and well no one showed up (I mean why would we?) to watch and the theoretical football team (it was in theory a football team) was not supporting their brethren either. Mount was so flabbergasted at no one watching and insulted that the football team did not support the basketball team and the administration at Hiram was doing nothing to change it - so the Raiders kicked the crap out of the basketball team AND the football team the following season.  ;D

A little fun on a gloomy afternoon...enjoy.

LL has definitely proven that he can build a program and win.  I hoped he'd get a better opportunity than Kansas.  I think he deserves it.  I hope they're paying him a lot because that program seems like a lost cause.  Zero in state talent, zero tradition and a fan base that's more worried about what 8th graders at AAU tourneys may be on Self's radar.

One of the coolest things I've noticed in recent years watching the video feeds of hoops games is that tons of athletes (and students in general) go to the hoops games now.  That was one of my favorite things about Mount and most D3 schools I'm guessing.  The baseball team worked the football games so we were there every game, but we would go to basketball games, wrestling matches, etc. to cheer on our friends.  A benefit of a small school was you were friends with people on every team!
