Attention Wilmington announcers...specifically Logan....your mic sucks. Really bad. Cannot understand half of what you are saying....sounds like the mic is in your mouth. Oh well. I have every confidence they will read this.   ;D

you try coaching Wilmington against Mount Union and keeping it PG

6 rushing attempts being the lead has to be a Mount Union oddity, right?

According to the posted schedule, Mount Union's JV team plays JCU at Mount today at 2:00 pm.
If you haven't seen the JVs, you might want to come by. They have really talented athletes at quarterback, receiver and running back. I'm not a good judge of lineman play (like HSCoach is) but the linemen more than held their own against a gigantic Ashland University JV line last week.
Mount has some JV players at the skill positions who look like future stars.

Greetings!

Raiderguy I was knee deep in wine and beer at a festival when you called regarding the game.  Saturday's are limited as this is our busy festival season.  Skunk works just about every Saturday so the chances of catching a game are almost nil.

Looking at the OAC at a glance it really doesn't seem like Mount will be challenged with the exception of????

I don't think we will know how good this team is until the 2nd/3rd round of the playoffs.  Is the defense that much better?  I think the offense is stellar and should even improve that much more as the year goes on.

Peace out all!

Mount is in victory formation so it's official...Cap had ZERO first downs in this game.  Unbelievable.

The freshman QB, Noah Beaudrie, that relieved Plunk today looked really, really good.  Both throwing the ball and as a runner.

I also think it's unbelievable that Capital never even attempted to go for it on 4th down...

According to the drive chart, Capital had at least 4 possessions where they punted on 4th and 2 or less. I don't get it.  With recent analytics about the value of punting vs going for it, I don't understand how coaches are still so conservative. I made a comment earlier on the WIAC board that I was baffled that UWW didn't go for it on 4th and 1 in their UWO game... you're telling me UWW isn't confident that they can pick up a single yard like 90+% of the time around midfield?

I said about the same thing in here before but for a different reason.  At the end if the rah rah speech in the locker room, Vapitals coach knows they are getting ready to get the crap kicked out of them. So why not gi for it on 4th? What in the heck do you have to lose? You played your starters for 3.5 quarters and had a TOTAL OF 23 YARDS!! This isn't on your players,  it's on the coaches. This performance was phoned in. Go for it on 4th. Fake a punt. Try trips or 4 wide. Try something that makes it look like you didnt spend the week napping or making dinner reservations.  I said this before about Otterbein a few years ago. At least Wilmingtons coaches sounded like they had a vested interest.

Yeah, and it looks like old hat for him with some of the ankles he broke. Plunk's more polished as a thrower, but Beaudrie can ball.

I do not want Plunk running a whole lot right now (the Raiders don't/won't need it until the playoffs), but Beaudrie's willingness to pull down the ball made offense look more... complete? dynamic? failure-insulated (by that I mean if the play starts to break down he can make something out of nothing)? I am trying to find the right word without it sounding like a knock on Plunk, who is the far-and-away front-runner for OAC offensive back of the year.

Dr. Acula

Beaudrie ran for over 1000 yds as a Sr in HS.  Whatever Plunk is, and he's absurdly talented, he isn't that level of athlete.  Honestly Beaudrie reminded me of freshman Burke.  It's Plunk's huddle but his successor IMO made his debut today.  That kid looked legit.

I'm sure the Cap coach knew the reality of today going in, but they attempted 6 passes today.  That's a total mail in.  You're not even gonna take a few shots?

I'm just a civilian but it seems a tad unfair to pile on the Capital coach in a total no-win situation.  Keep the clock running and get the eff out of there before someone gets hurt.

If you knew Mount Union would go all-out with its first-stringers for sixty minutes what would the betting line be?  100 points?  150 points?  200 points?

Would 223-0 be out of reach?

Desertraider

Since when is expecting a HC to show effort considered piling on? No one expects Cap to win. But the last time I checked he was actually PAID for that "performance". Doesnt matter what he was paid...he accepted payment to be the HC. His team had 36 plays and 6 pass attempts. I know Mount is better but even Wilmington managed 57 plays. Exact same score but Wilma tried.  57 plays, 27 pass attempts and actually had 9 first downs. Did Wilma expect to win? No. But they put forth an effort and the coach at least showed up.

I think the Capital Comets need a mascot.  I nominate a very PC, Captain Marvel.
