Raider 68

I enjoyed this game, but the Heidelberg announcers were hard to hear and totally biased.  Whatev..
I'm starting to like the Mount offense, Berg's D was totally committed to stopping the big pass and giving up tons of space underneath.  I, personally, cannot figure out how a team will defend the 2 back set and these wide receivers?  It seems that 5-6 yards on first down is a given.
Plunk definitely doesnt shy away from the hard throws, which I like.  The one pick, where the berg guy one handed it, was a great play.  A little more air on that, and it was a score.  I imagine we'll see that more often, and see it work.  I like how other teams will not be able to design their based on personnel.  Two backs are as much pas as they are run, TE's take the short flat route and the over the middle.  ALL 4 Wide outs go deep, short crossers, flat routes...It's hard to pick one.

All in all, the Berg has some top talent and Mount played a less than stellar game and still walked away with a huge win.

The Mount offense in 2021 reminds me of North Central in 2019. I watched that game that either team could have won, but NC had a very good QB that found all his receivers all the time. Both long and short they moved  the ball through the air.
Coach Dartt  is not showing more than necessary and the two back line-up just creates more options.

If the Raiders get to the quarters/semis, they will see a freshman QB at NC. They ( NC) pose a bigger challenge than UWW
or MHB IMHO. In the meantime, there are some other teams that have alot to say about it, St. Johns, Wheaton, Linfield and some others.

I wish the Raiders had a real competitive game before the playoffs, but that does not look likely.

ONU lost to....Capital?

I guess Cap's coach wasn't worried about injuries this week? It is amazing what a team can accomplish when the coaches don't phone it in.

If Capital had thrown numerous passes against Mount Union what would the final score have been?  Any difference to speak of?  (Answer:  No.)  Would Cap's quarterback have even been healthy enough to take the field for the Ohio Northern upset?  (Answer:  Neither you nor I know.)

Capital's coach made the decision to pick his fights, to live to fight another day, to not spit in the wind or tug on Superman's cape.

And gosh gee willikers - can you believe it????? - that decision was justified by Capital's upset of Ohio Northern.  Kudos to the coach!

In the OAC good teams can, once in a blue moon, beat Mount Union.  Bad teams can, two or three times in a blue moon, beat a good team.

But bad teams NEVER beat - or even contend with - Mount Union.  In the last thirty years there have been approximately 4,283 quidjillion Mount Union halftime scores of 45-3.  HALFTIME scores.  FOUR THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE QUIDJILLION FREAKING TIMES the score was 45-3 at HALFTIME.

There's a reason a certain Mount Union radio announcer analyst threw in the towel analyzing Mount Union football games on the radio.

Wheaton scares me this year.  If they come to Mount, as they have in the past and played well, I will be nervous.

Yeah, they have a fast physical D-line which seems to be the best strategy to defeating Mount. Pretty much every team that's given Mount trouble in the last decade has had an excellent front 4. Except maybe NCC in 2019 but they were still pretty darn good.

Mount always has too many playmakers on the perimeter so it's too hard to shut them down with good coverage. If a Mount QB has time he'll find someone.

On the other hand, a great d-line takes away those tools before they have the chance to do damage.

I'm curious to see how this iteration of the Mount Offense will work against a really good defensive front. On the one hand, we have a fairly one dimensional QB which could be trouble, but on the other hand we dump the ball off on short passes so much that I could see that counteracting lack of time to throw.

I wouldnt say that NCC caused Mount's offense too many problems in '19.  52 points should win you most games.

Plunk is not Taurice or Burke back there, but I think that some discount his athletic ability.  The kid is an athlete, but he just isnt needed to run...yet.  He's not a Rocco or Jorris back there

Oh yeah agreed, I said NCC was the exception. I had to give them the modifier "pretty darn good" because they won a title

Yeah... but at the same time I'll bet if you asked caps coach if he plans to try and win every game and put his team in the best position to do so he'd tell you yes.

I honestly don't have any issue with calling running plays, Cap is a run heavy team so it makes sense to not abandon your bread and butter. I just think it makes zero sense to punt on a 4th and short when you're losing and outmatched, it's not like field position is gonna matter

FWIW Hahn is listed as QB1 on ONU's depth chart this week.  I hope he's 100% so they can push the Mount D a little tomorrow with their passing game.  I have little hope that the Bears D is going to slow down Plunk and company.

Etta at BW could be a decent game if the Pios play like they played JCU last week.  Beyond that there isn't much going on in the OAC besides the Cap/Ott backyard brawl.

You play to win the game. Period. If you are not going to play to win the game - quit.

Pass defense is a problem for the Raiders and a lot of arm tackling. Dbs seem passive and ONU is taking advantage. On the arm tackling - iI see it on outside runs but on plays up the middle?

Plunk has 2 picks. Both off the back foot and neither a good pass. He is staring his WR down. On his first pick it looked like he was "ducking" pressure as he threw (like bailing out as he threw it). Mount needs to clean this up or it is an early exit.

Yeah... certainly not looking quite as dominant as I'd hope at this point in the season.

Dr. Acula

To put it bluntly they look flat on both sides of the ball.  It's not pretty today.

21-20 ONU, Polar Bears have all the momentum

I also just realized ONU lost to Capital last week. What is going on today?

WRMUalum13

Well shoot now I'm legit nervous. Defense looks confused and slow

Open receivers and  very little pass rush

28-20.

What is happening, right now? Defense can't seem to stop a nosebleed right now.
