Raider 68

For all you Raider and Buckeye fans, the Toledo Rockets travel to Columbus on September 17th in an effort to beat the Buckeyes.
Former Raiders Jason Candle and Vince Kehres will lead the Rockets. It would be nice if the former Raiders receive
some press, since their challenge will be significant. :)

Tough day for the OAC.  Sheesh.  It's a toss up IMO which loss was the worst.  The BW loss was certainly surprising, but I guess at least MSJ was voted 2nd in the HCAC coaches poll.  That being said, BW is supposedly the 2nd best OAC team.  The 2nd best OAC team shouldn't really have trouble with anyone in the HCAC.  That's a bad loss.  I think the ONU loss is worse though.  Alma is not good.  At all.  That just can't happen.  And to be honest Berg wasn't exactly beating up on Adrian while I was watching.

Ott beating OWU was the headline of yesterday on the positive side.  And Cap being moderately competitive against Denison at times was kind of shocking.

I didn't get to watch the Mount game yet, but it looks like it went as expected.  Sadly nothing about yesterday in any way gets you excited for the regular season if you're a Mount fan.

Oh and onu drops one to Alma. Not a good look when 3 of your top teams go down in non-conference play - and 2 of them to (how do you say this nicely?) less strong opponents. Sorry but Alma and MSJ aren't exactly power teams.

The OAC will be fine and probably have a team in the national championship again.

A bit of a bold prediction considering the OAC hasn't had a team in the national title game since 2018.

the year makes it sound worse, but its been two Stagg Bowls without Mount, I mean the OAC.  The past five champs-two have been Mount, two have been UMHB and NCC takes the other

From looking at Pictures, I'm pretty sure Coach Dartt was on the sidelines last Saturday.  I'm assuming LK was in the booth.

That's a fair point, I just hate it when people take making it to a national championship game for granted.

BW 13-12 over Wilma....what?

Oh - don't worry. Apparently the OAC will be fine and have a team in the championship. Who knew?

I am all for Wilma stepping up and playing - actually playing. I watched some of the game and Wilma wasn't dirty or taking cheap shots (at least that I saw). I have thought they have been one of the dirtier teams in the conference for a long time. But they played. The problem is not that they looked good (they seemed rather 'Meh') - the issue is BW looked like hot garbage. That is not good for the OAC - and it isn't good for Mount. The sample size is small - but so far BW and JCU look to be struggling and ONU looks uninspired. For the past 10 years (?) we have been saying its Mount and then one of these that should get a nod for the playoffs. Berg is ranked so at least someone is showing up. But they have played Adrian and the Otters - both are weaker teams (no offense but...). Berg has Wilma next - so maybe that reveals more about each team.

This is not looking good for the OAC early.  That's bad news about BW.  And looking at the ONU box score is not pretty.  If Berg is the 2nd best team Mount's gap to the 2nd place team will be as big as anytime in recent memory.  Berg is a solid squad.  I've watched chunks of both of their games.  Sims is a good QB.  They're solid on both sides of the ball.  They're likely a top 25 team as the poll says.  But I just don't see any way they even challenge Mount at all.  It's a typical "good" Berg team of recent years which is fine if that's the 2nd or 3rd best team you play in the OAC.  Week 2 has only increased the feeling that this will be a Mount season that the starters aren't even playing meaningful snaps in the 4th qtr until week 12.

Just need a couple of OAC teams to be regionally ranked towards the end, a mess of 6-4ish records would be tragic.  Hopefully 2 of Berg, JCU, BW and ONU can avoid their typical loss to a bottom third OAC team.  8-2/7-3 OAC teams should be ranked in the new regions

I went into the OAC forum to propose this very question... but you have already answered it for me.

Broader still, I would propose the gap between Mount and the 2nd best team in the REGION is as big as anytime. Right now, I'd put Heidelberg, DePauw, Hope, Albion, and Trine as 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, and 2e. I think Mount beats all 5 by whatever score they want.
