Fellas!  You've scored 45+ points in four of the five games you've played this year.  I think you're going to be alright.

the next 3 weeks of 60-70 points wont mean anything if they don't put together a better performance at home against JCU

^^^100% this.  Every year for decades they've been able to roll pretty much the entire conference.  Mount fans are critical because we're trying to figure out where on the spectrum of 12-1 to 15-0 is the team at right now.  That's a ridiculous bar, but they hold themselves to that standard so the fans do too.  Right now this looks like a 12-1 team more than a 15-0 team.  Luckily the playoffs don't start Saturday so it's a work in progress.

I was looking at team stats for Mount and I couldn't help but notice something I didn't think I'd ever see.  ONU is dead last in the OAC in ppg (15) and ypg (236) offensively.  In 5 games they've been in the red zone a total of 9 times.  Not saying I expect some air raid offense in Ada, but they're always at least competent thanks to talent alone.  It seemed like their MO most years was pretty much they had a good RB, one good WR, avg to decent QB and decent OL.  Not sure what the deal is this year, but it isn't going well so far.

re-watching the game...

I don't think that I've ever seen Mount run so many 2 TE sets in recent years, but the lack of success in those sets was incredible.  The right side of the o-line right now is a serious problem, especially when 80% of your plays go that way.  I'm sure he's a great kid, but having a TE playing RT is not ideal.  Berg's Blackiston is an absolute dawg and I hate that he didn't just come down 62 to Mount, but the Berg d-line and Mount's RT spent more time in the pocket than Plunk did.

If the OL is the problem and we have a small back, why not spread it out with 4-5 WR instead of packing it in with TE's that were recruited to be more receivers than tackles?

the 1:44 in the 1st half from the 50 was even worse than I remembered, is the HC still calling the plays? yikes

A)  I think the Berg is has a ton of talent.  Offensively, a big O-Line, and fast receivers.  Defensively, they are as aggressive as they come.  With Blackiston and a few others, they put the pressure on.  The mixed up stunts and brought different players, including #21 from different sides of the ball.  Plunk held on too long a few times, and other times, the play call was poor.  I think the Berg brought way more pressure than they've seen all year and they did it fairly efficiently.
B)  Mounts run game relies on the deep pass, and high efficiency passing.  If the safties are way up and the DBs are shooting in to stop the bubble and flare out passes, the run game suffers as well.  I think the extra TE was to help with pass protection and pick up some blitzes.  They practice this stuff, but again, it's more than they've seen all year.  Also, they the Berg to house for playing that style of ball.  They will get better and they learn how to beat that pressure.
C)  I think the Def did an exceptional job.  They kept pressure on and had a man in the WR face every play.  The underneath coverage needs to do better getting their head around to find the football.  Other than that, I thought it was hard fought and a great job.
D) We won by 22.  The berg was ranked in the top 25 and were' not really ever in this game.  I like 6 point given up (mostly on 2 first downs by penalty) better than 70 points scored.
E) I'm not sure Beaudrie needs to come in to shake it up, I just think they need to run some designed QB draw plays.  Plunk is fast and the team can block down field.  Also, I would like to see more 2 back sets, Redmond and Parker or throw a TE back there too.
F) Great game and go Mount

Mount fans:  We need somebody in this conference to play us tough so we can be ready for the playoffs!

Mount fans:  Crap!  That team played us way tougher than they would have against a typical elite Mount team!  We have serious problems!

Ice Bear says what a great story about Heidelburg's Wally Kalinowski. Ice Bear is very impressed.

Mount vs. Capital, not much change in approach. Constant flair passes, no offensive imagination, same old approach. Sure, the Raiders had 7 TD's against a 0-5 team, but had great field position for most of the drives. The defense was good, but not
outstanding. This is looking more like a 12-1 team, but I hope I am wrong and the Raiders get to the Stagg. :-\

Dartt is a good offensive coordinator, I wonder if this is a "don't put anything on tape" situation. Run a vanilla offense as long as it works

I can't imagine they view Cap as someone they need to open up the playbook against.  That's one of those take care of business, nobody get hurt and let's go home type of games.  I was mildly surprised to see it was "only" 49-14, but then I saw it was 35-0 at half and it made a little more sense.  I'm sure Ely isn't happy about giving up 14 points even in a blowout though.

Unrelated, but also saw that Agnew ran for 252 yds and 4 scores for Etta.  Not a bad afternoon.

it got to 42-0, but then a muffed punt gave Cap the ball at the 26 to set up the first score, nicely thrown fade to a tall WR that looks promising and then the final TD came with 45 sec left.  Cap never quit fighting, even when it a 40 point game.  Kudos to their coaches and players.  Mount's defense was fine, its more the inability to gain a yard or two when needed on the ground and Plunk having to scramble for his life multiple times that is concerning.

interesting OAC scheduling note, depending on the outcome of the BW-Berg game Mount could be playing back-to-back "OAC title games" to end the season.  Mount and JCU should both be 7-0 coming into their Nov 5th matchup, with BW hanging around at 6-1

JCU has Cap and @Musky
Mount has Wilma and @Ott
BW has Ott, @Cap and @Berg

Assuming a Mount W and BW beating Berg, Mount would be 8-0 and BW 7-1 and BW playing for a shared championship and the automatic playoff berth.  If that stretch of two "rivalry" games doesn't get Mount ready for the playoff run, I don't know what would.

if nothing else, there is a great opportunity for a few OAC teams to pad their records and get regionally ranked, the top 4 have some winnable games over the next two weeks
