In D3's latest playoff bracket they have Mount traveling to Del Valley. Thoughts

Pat's high

gotta be a typo, Mount's going to beat Del Val by a billion if they have to travel

The Del Valley website also lists it as a home game... Boy that would be Bizarre.

If Del Valley is a higher seed that Mount that means the top 4 seeds were actually Whitewater, Delaware Valley, Linfield and Ithaca based on how the bracket is set up.

Sorry I guess if they put the top 4 seeds in the 4 furthest corners it could be St. Johns, Del Valley, North Central and Linfield and that would still make some consistent logical sense.

I just don't get why the NCAA doesn't release seeds so  that we don't need to get surprised at the last minute. I guess it's to hide the fact that some of matchups are based on geography and not truly seeded correctly.

The Mount Union site also says the game is in Doylestown, PA..... WOW...I don't know which one was worse. Last year NCC at Mount our this one??

A road game stinks but it might be just the spark the team needs.  Not a lot of opportunities to use "Mount against the World" and play the disrespect card when you're the greatest dynasty college football has ever seen, but it seems appropriate now

Poor Delaware Valley

Can confirm: I am not high.

½ a gummy

I don't think half a Minnesota gummy is enough to have any effect on me. LOL

I might be biased, but sending Mount to DelVal is at least based on the criteria (DVU's SOS is significantly higher); last year was the committee rerunning numbers and reranking, which they weren't supposed to do.

I'm sure the Raiders will be plenty motivated.

I was just about to post this myself. Looking at it objectively, Del Val should be hosting. Del Val's SOS is 16th while Mount Union's is 126th. Del Val also has gone 3-0 against RROs. Mount has only gone 2-0 in that category.

The committee doesn't, nor should it, take "dynasties" or the eye test into account when determining who hosts.

Pat Coleman

Well, it has in the past, I think. The old, "tie goes to the team that was in last year's bracket the longest" applies when teams are ambiguously close in the criteria. This clearly wasn't considered one of those instances.

If they do, they would have in Alliance as well.  Having been through this, I will say the players could really care less. The coaches won't let it be a distraction.  I doubt they even bother to try to turn this into a disrespect thing. Much more effective to take it as just another obstacle to overcome to get to our goal. No big deal. Put the ball down and let's play.

The people who care the most are the fans. It kind of stinks to either burn up a bunch of hours going to a game you thought would be at home. Or miss the game altogether (except online).  I would guess the fans will be more upset than those in the program.

They are both silly.  NCC should have hosted last year and Del Val should be bussing to Alliance.  Not a whole lot teams in 10 school conferences can do with SOS, it's going to be around .500.  Yes Defiance stinks but they finished with the same record as mighty Montclair St on the Del Val out of conference schedule.

Pat Coleman

Kind of cherry-picking your stats there as Del Val also played Westminster.

I think this has a great deal to do with Mount's performance against JCU and BW.  Based on those two lack luster wins Del Val got the higher seed.  It stinks but it's understandable.  Let's go roast some goat!

It doesn't. MOV is not a factor in the committees selection / seeding criteria. By the letter of the rule Del Val getting a higher seed makes perfect sense. Del Val had identical win percentage against D3 opponents, identical wins over Regionally Ranked opponents but significantly better SOS.

The selection / seeding criteria are laid out here: https://www.d3football.com/interactive/faq/playoffs
