Exactly what did the Raiders practice this week? They looked sloppy on multiple occasions. Wartburg was a worthy foe. But I thought they were better prepared for us than we were for them. Is a week enough time to correct what ails us? I thought our defensive scheme made a better than average team look better. Plunk was running out of the pocket all day. We gotta block better than that.

"Better than average" isn't fair to warburg, they beat the #4 #6 and the team that beat the #7 team in the nation to go against mount.

The purple raiders did play sloppy and made Wartburg look better than they should have IMO, but Wartburg was a really really good team.

35-14 NCC nearing end of 3rd quarter. Looking pretty bad for the Cru

Btw, ESPNU is broadcasting the Stagg Bowl.

Twice on the 1 yard line and zero points for Mount or else they would have put a near 50 burger on a "great" Wartburg defense

Coach Dartt and his staff will have to go back to last year's Stagg Bowl game film to figure out how to slow down and possibly beat North Central.  Not going to get anything from todays game film.  MHB didn't even come close to slowing them down.  Very large task ahead for Mount.

Issue is last year Lehnen had an injured throwing shoulder so he was hesitant to run (taking hits) and couldn't really throw. Game plan was completely different.

Don't have to go quite that far, Carnegie Mellon slowed this offense down for 3/4 of their playoff game, final was 28-7 but it was 14-7 going into the 4 quarter

They still ended up giving up like 300 yards rushing, but they must have been doing something right for a while

I'm wondering if someone with more Xs and Os football knowledge can answer this. Early in the game It seemed like Mount had a ton of success with the short passes, the quick releases and limited time in the pocket seemed to mitigate Wartburg's pass rush. Then later it seemed like the plays tended to take longer to develop and involved Plunk looking to take shots deep or rolling out. Was this an actual change in play calling strategy or did Wartburg just start covering those short open passes better? Basically whatever Mount did on the second drive of the game seemed to work like magic but then it wasn't really ever replicated.

Also I can't remember ever watching a game where a team waited all the way until the 4th quarter to establish the run, that was a pretty unexpected turn of events in my opinion.

Not sure if I have more Xs and Os but it seemed like Mount was taking what was available early, the short stuff and try to bring the safeties and corners up and then exploit the deep stuff. Mount used the short pass instead of the run Team puts 8 in box and plays deep with DBs it opens the in between with backs and TEs. 2 cents.

Hats off the Wartburg. Great game. I heard you have a player you call Turbo? Wish I could have heard more about him. Having said that...look. Wartburg had a 2 short field scores, 1 of 14 yards and the other was 21 yards. I respect Wartburg but think the game was closer to 42/48 to 17 than it was to a Wartburg win. Game reminded me of the UMHB game Mount won in semis at Mount...the Fechko TD at the end. great game, great ending but UMHB never really seemed to be in control. Mount seemed to let them hang around.

Wartburg seems to be extremely well coached. They have some good athletes, but their play calling was great and kept them in the game. They did what they needed to put their team in a position to win. Great season for them and great fans to interact with.

Mount looked like Jeckyl and Hyde today.... Plunk looked like a star at points today and had some bad misses. Echeverry was quick, strong and fight for extra yards when needed.  Manley was TOUGH today! Great catches and extra yards in meaningful spots. Special teams had some great plays with a kick and punt  return to give mount momentum,  but a missed kick, PAT and bad punt were self- inflicted wounds. All in all, the players and coaches stepped up when they needed to win the game. This was another "Mount Union magic" type of game with that comeback.

What a great season so far....Now NCC will provide its own incredibly tough challenge. They seem like an unstoppable freight train right now. Heal up, watch the tape and give it all you've got Raiders!
