Mount Union "offering" the Jackson State backup QB with one year of eligibility is an interesting thing.  Should know pretty soon about the guys that are coming back in '23 and those that are graduating

Wait is that a thing?

its the Transfer Portal trickle down.  I have seen "commitment" videos from high school kids with 5 D3 college logos, what a world

I mean are you saying hypothetically that would be interesting, or did mount union actually recruit the jackson st qb?

D3 "offers" are meaningless, but obviously there was some contact.  The kid seems to move around a bunch, I'm in the Plunk '23 camp

Ohhh I did a search for their 2nd string qb "JP Andrade" and didn't see anything. Was quite confused. Thanks for the clarification. The guy with the offer definitely seems more like a d3 recruit than the player I was researching lol.

JP Andrade was a walk on QB at Ohio State I think. Either way, I'm all for competition, but feel like Beaudrie will bring a different dimension to the offense next year if he's the guy. He's more Kevin Burke/Tayrice Scott than Plunk. It looks like Picarillo (kicker) and Chisolm (Oline) are looking to transfer with 1 year left. Have to imagine the young guys that have been waiting are coming at the bit for a starting opportunity.

Freshman Elliot Warner took over the Punt/KO duties in the playoffs. I understand why Picarillo is looking to transfer.

It doesn't look like Chisolm got much PT either.

Another vote for Beaudrie.  Plunk has had his opportunity.  Time to move forward with a more dynamic, less predictable offense.

I think Beaudrie is a more complete package than Plunk. Plunk can throw and looks to throw everytime which I think led Mounts offense to focus less on establishing the run and looking down field. Yes Plunk is a better passer - I get it, but Beaudrie IMHO makes Mount less predictable (a huge problem the last couple years).

One less super-senior for Mount in '23 as CB Derrick Bradley "declares for the NFL draft" lol

I'm excited to see Beaudrie.  His athleticism is something that teams will have to game plan for.  However, depending on who comes back with all 4 main WR's and both TE's eligible to return I can't see how Plunk doesn't give you the best chance to win it.  I viewed Plunk as having a lot of parallels with CJ Stroud.  By the end of the season I found myself saying "Oh, he can run the ball.  He just chose not to before.  Oh, we can open up the playbook a little more and let him make plays."  I thought Plunk showed he is athletic enough to pull it down and run the ball effectively.

It's not that Plunk isn't athletic, it's that his style of play just doesn't quite fit the read-option concepts that Involve many more called QB runs than our current offense does. In 2013-2019 a higher percentage of run plays were a read-option where the QB would make a read and run it or hand it off. I think those offenses were incredibly hard to defend. However, the players-plays-formations philosphy (which I think is correct) doesn't lend itself to asking Plunk to changing his play style to fit that offense.

I think the Beaudrie proponents are more in favor of a new offensive scheme moreso than a just a personnel change... At least if I'm reading it correctly.

It is hard to argue that anyone besides a Gagliardi finalist gives Mount a better chance of success, but I do think our scheme on offense hurt us this year.

Despite the video-game like passing numbers our offenses the last two years just weren't as good as most Mount Union offenses in the last 10 years or so.

Key offensive Stats through the Stagg Bowl (omitted some because beyond top 5 data was more difficult to find on ncaa.org)

2022- PPG - 34.6  YPG- 443.2
2021- Not top 5 in either category
2019 - PPG - 58.5 YPG - 633 (This is a little inflated due to round 2 exit)
2018-  PPG - 38.6 YPG - Not top 5
2017 - PPG - 38.2 YPG - Not top 5
2016 - PPG- 37.0   YPG - Not top 5
2015 - PPG - 52.4 YPG - 546.2

Before 2015 I couldn't get the same timeframe for stats.

I might be a Plunk stan, but I think some of the criticisms of Plunk are more on the stale, predictable play calling rather than the QB.  Given the choice, give me Plunk and a new OC over Beaudrie with Dartt calling the plays

Does anyone know what the final decision date for Seniors considering the additional year of eligibility?

I bet it's fairly fluid. Depends in part on whether a student leaves a class for themselves to take the following fall, and that sort of thing.

I don't think it would be the "final date" but the next semester starts this Monday (1/9/23).  With the class load maneuvering, it seems like a pretty big date for next season.  Maybe some of the NCC posters can provide some insight into the process of having 23/24 year olds on the roster

Congrats to former Raider Chris Kappas on being named FCS Asst coach of the year as DC at Austin Peay.  Next one coming from the LK tree for a D1 HC job?

I heard a rumor today he is considering taking the Louisville (OH) High School HC job. I find that hard to believe considering the collegiate trajectory he appears to be on. And if he wanted to return close to home I'd imagine Mount would find room on its staff for him.

you called it.  seems like an odd jump for CK.  Louisville got a good one

Dr. Acula

Odd is an understatement.  He was knocking on the door of a D1 HC job I'd think.  I won't even say that's a steal for Louisville because that doesn't do it justice.  You just got a young, proven high level college coach to take over your HS program.  Kudos to Louisville for getting it done and good luck to Coach Kappas.

When I heard this a few weeks ago I was skeptical, but also trusted the source. Really bizarre choice if you ask me. He would've been a D1 HC within 2-4 years.

More importantly, I find it even more curious Dartt couldn't get him on staff. If he was wanting to come home and take a likely pay cut from Austin Peay, he would've been a slam dunk OC choice (and HC in waiting) for the Purple Raiders.

Instead he is going to a suffering High School program with no league and an awful schedule. When nothing else makes sense, it all points to the $$$$. Louisville must've dug between the cushions and found some spare change.
