Odd is an understatement.  He was knocking on the door of a D1 HC job I'd think. I won't even say that's a steal for Louisville because that doesn't do it justice. You just got a young, proven high level college coach to take over your HS program.  Kudos to Louisville for getting it done and good luck to Coach Kappas.

Well said. It is pretty unprecedented and Kappas is immediately one of the most accomplished HS coaches in the area, if not the state.

Congrats to former Raider Chris Kappas on being named FCS Asst coach of the year as DC at Austin Peay.  Next one coming from the LK tree for a D1 HC job?

I heard a rumor today he is considering taking the Louisville (OH) High School HC job. I find that hard to believe considering the collegiate trajectory he appears to be on. And if he wanted to return close to home I'd imagine Mount would find room on its staff for him.

https://leopardathletics.org/2023/01/05/louisville-welcomes-head-football-coach-chris-kappas/

you called it.  seems like an odd jump for CK.  Louisville got a good one

When I heard this a few weeks ago I was skeptical, but also trusted the source. Really bizarre choice if you ask me. He would've been a D1 HC within 2-4 years.

More importantly, I find it even more curious Dartt couldn't get him on staff. If he was wanting to come home and take a likely pay cut from Austin Peay, he would've been a slam dunk OC choice (and HC in waiting) for the Purple Raiders.

Instead he is going to a suffering High School program with no league and an awful schedule. When nothing else makes sense, it all points to the $$$$. Louisville must've dug between the cushions and found some spare change.

I haven't seen anything in the press releases regarding what CK's position at Louisville would be other than Head Coach.  Maybe once the school board meeting takes place it will become clearer.  But there isn't a lot of money in solely coaching in public schools, I bet Louisville pulls a Massillon and makes CK an "administrator".  CK calling Purple Raider plays next year would have been a dream come true.

"He comes to Louisville after spending the last three season as the defensive coordinator at Austin Peay State, a Division I-AA program in the Ohio Valley Conference."

Seriously Canton Rep? The I-AA was renamed to FCS 16 Years ago!

In fact, the last time I-AA was the correct name for the subconference was when Chris Kappas was a player for Mount Union!

I don't know any specifics of this situation other than knowing they used to live in Louisville, he can build up for a state retirement and I think family is in the area for his wife.

D3fanboy

Ruby is going to enter next season with 287 Rec 4500 yards and 59 TD for his career.

The D3 career records are 463 Rec 6108 yards and 75 TD.

while the career reception record is likely safe, Wayne will have a very good shot at the yards and TD records for D3 and with a deep playoff run he could really make a run at the all-division records as well (78 TD D2 & 6,464 yards FCS)

All of the Mount receiving records will be Ruby's by the 2nd or 3rd game

purple blood

If kappas is still at Louisville and Dart leaves for some reason I wonder if they'd snatch him up or if he'd wanna go or if that's the plan.

And APeay is no longer in the OVC. They are in the ASUN now.

A lot of D3 Coaches make less than HS Teachers/Coaches.  Combine that with the fact that Kappas has two young children, I suspect he made the move to HS so he can spend more time with his family.

If he wanted to be a College HC, now would be the opportune time since he just won the FCS Assistant Coach of the Year award.

Regarding Chris Kappas, it seems to me he would be pretty freaking familiar with a situation wherein a man doesn't put a D1 head coaching job and $$$ ahead of other things.
