The knock on D3 football has been there have been few kickers that can win a close game by making a long field goal. True or false? I have seen more misses than conversions. Anyone ever see a winning field goal at this level? Dont they recruit kickers?

Off the top of my head UMHB beat Hardin Simmons on a last second field goal a few years back. IIRC it was a 40+ yarder

Edit: Yep 43 yarder go ahead field goal to win the game in 2019

D3 Football paid this on twitter:
We have mentioned previously that Division III members are talking about the logistics of expanding the #d3fb playoffs to 40 teams, and the hosts of the 2024 and 2025 Stagg Bowl have been asked if they could host the title game around the New Year. Relief may be coming!

I'm not opposed to this at all. It would actually give student athletes the week of exams to focus on school work then travel for the Stagg Bowl. It would also be a huge plus for attendance purposes if the game were held after Christmas.

With a number of guys returning for a final season this fall there are several career records that will (or likely will) be set:

Career receiving yds - Ruby needs 206 yds to pass Shorts (4,705)
Career receiving TDs - Ruby needs 5 TD to pass Shorts (63)

Ruby already set the career receptions record last fall at 287 currently.

Career passing yds - Plunk needs 2,890 yds to pass Borchert (14,482)
Career completions - Plunk needs 33 completions to pass Borchert (946)

Plunk will have a monumental task to become the career passing TD leader.  He needs 65 TD to pass Borchert's 189 total (how insane is that total, btw?).  He needs only 10 to pass Fulford and Burke who are tied for 2nd though.

These are achievable by halftime of game 1 if they really wanted to.

Thanks for the memory!

I was living in Minnesota at the time hangin' with a crew of Johnnies at an Ice fishing camp on Lake of the Woods. No radio even. I was calling my daughter ever 15-20 minutes for updates! When the game was over, she wouldn't tell me the score! Don't you want to enjoy the game on replay she said? NO! Tell me the GD score! ;D
Great bunch of guys those Johnnies are!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

QB Plunk's motivation is only the Walnut and Bronze for 2023. Records are nice but a National title would be great
for him and the Super seniors who came back! :)

With Wesley's Joe Callahan banging around the NFL long enough to collect a pension and Mount Union's Pierre Garcon playing that much longer.........I hope a faster (yet smaller......vs. Garcon) Ruby and a similarly sized (to Callahan), but much faster and bigger armed Plunk have the motivation of the NFL scouts watching them. The knock on Ruby has been his sheer lack of love of physicality (coming from 2 NFL scouts). Destroying D3 CB's who run 4.8 40's is one thing..........getting by CB's who run 4.3's and safeties who are looking to knock your block off is another. They both should wind up in NFL camps at minimum.

With what Mount Union has coming back for a 5th (or 6th) year, including at the most important position(s)............ it would be a major upset if they didn't win it all this year.

It feels like these should have asteriks or something considering the extra Covid season. I know playoff runs make each players career a little different in terms of games played but this just seems more obviously skewed. Nothing against Plunk, but he's getting quite a stats boost

Also I don't buy your comps. There's no way Ruby is faster than Garçon, if you watch his highlight reals Garçons next level speed is very apparent, he'd catch the ball nearly anywhere on the field  and simply outrun the OAC defenses to the end zone. I don't see that kind of obvious next level speed watching Ruby. He's a great player but I don't see that type of next level speed.

As far as Callahan goes he's also a legit 6-1 and beat a D1 team in college.

there will never be another Garcon at the D3 level.  he was different

Saw on social media AJ Shorts is having surgery to remove a brain tumor. Prayers up to him and the Shorts family!
