With a number of guys returning for a final season this fall there are several career records that will (or likely will) be set:

Career receiving yds - Ruby needs 206 yds to pass Shorts (4,705)
Career receiving TDs - Ruby needs 5 TD to pass Shorts (63)

Ruby already set the career receptions record last fall at 287 currently.

Career passing yds - Plunk needs 2,890 yds to pass Borchert (14,482)
Career completions - Plunk needs 33 completions to pass Borchert (946)

Plunk will have a monumental task to become the career passing TD leader.  He needs 65 TD to pass Borchert's 189 total (how insane is that total, btw?).  He needs only 10 to pass Fulford and Burke who are tied for 2nd though.

QB Plunk's motivation is only the Walnut and Bronze for 2023. Records are nice but a National title would be great
for him and the Super seniors who came back! :)

With Wesley's Joe Callahan banging around the NFL long enough to collect a pension and Mount Union's Pierre Garcon playing that much longer.........I hope a faster (yet smaller......vs. Garcon) Ruby and a similarly sized (to Callahan), but much faster and bigger armed Plunk have the motivation of the NFL scouts watching them. The knock on Ruby has been his sheer lack of love of physicality (coming from 2 NFL scouts). Destroying D3 CB's who run 4.8 40's is one thing..........getting by CB's who run 4.3's and safeties who are looking to knock your block off is another. They both should wind up in NFL camps at minimum.

With what Mount Union has coming back for a 5th (or 6th) year, including at the most important position(s)............ it would be a major upset if they didn't win it all this year.

A lot of responses about the dominance of Garcon and his being on another level vs. Ruby.

If Callahan hung around the NFl for as long as he did...............doesn't Plunk at least get a look? Hell, Sirianni could use a developmental #3 for my beloved, loaded Eagles!

D2 Alderson Broaddus shutting down athletics (and the entire institution) within a week of fall camp starting will be interesting to watch, not very far away from the OAC in WV.  Not a very successful D2 program, but tons of kids will be looking for a new home

Dr. Acula

Man, if you search Alderson Broaddus on twitter it's just a stream of athletes trying to find new homes.  So sad for all those kids who just had their lives thrown into chaos right before school started.

but...but D2 provides scholarships, must be far superior to D3, right?

He's a great d3 qb but he's undersized, being both undersized and d3 is a hard combo to overcome. Callahan is legit 6-1 (so 6-3 on a college roster lol)

One of my players who just graduated HS in June was set to go play for AB.  One of the coaches from AB got a new job and is trying to help to get him there.  Sad for all those players.

The Top D2 programs..........beyond a shadow of a doubt. All of them, from top to bottom.......you know the answer given the obvious tone of your question.

Although this is just the tip of a very large iceberg. I was speaking to a consultant in higher education and the worst case scenario from now (which includes closures in the last year and closures slated for May 2024) through 2030 is that over 350-375 institutions of higher learning close their doors or are swallowed up (i.e. Villanova to swallow up Cabrini)..........and many of those schools use the same Chemistry, Biology, English Lit, History of Art, etc. as the well heeled, eh hemm "exclusive" schools.

A wise professor at a non-select D3 university (and he made a mint, with a rag tag PA state school degree, before going into education) once told me, "a debit is a debit, a credit is a credit. If you want to pursue a career in Accounting, don't let anybody fool you with college ratings and selectivity. Apply yourself, work hard in your internships and pass the CPA Exam. You'll be fine".

Truer words have never been spoken as he's helped hundreds of students learn, pass the exam on the first try (#3 in percentage of students who pass the CPA Exam on the first attempt out of 71 colleges and universities in PA..........many which are very selective, cost one hell of a lot more and who think their you-know-what doesn't stink).

Great education can be found anywhere..............and not just at "great" institutions. Play ball, get a piece of paper........and work hard. The name on the piece of paper quickly becomes irrelevant as it's now on the individual.

If Callahan was a legit 6'1"........then I am 2" taller than I have been told for 25 years. I'm just saying that with his prowess, I hope that Plunk at least gets a look. Maybe a post draft rookie camp where everybody and their mother gets a weekend. Nick Sirianni prays at the altar of The Mount. It wouldn't shock me if he threw Plunk a bone. With Plunk's speed and arm talent, he does have CFL ability, unless he's heading down some law school or med school path which makes that option moot.

I've had similar discussions and have heard the same thing - a large swath of the small private college ecosystem will be gone in ten years.  To your point,  unless you're looking for a very specific program (e.g., civil engineering, or an elite D3 sports team) or are talking about the legitimate edge that a few dozen of the top NESCAC type schools give for those pursuing a few career paths that are super-credentialist (consulting, biglaw, hedge funds, etc.) you'd be very hard pressed to find a single good reason to cough up $50-70k per year for an education and future opportunities you can get anywhere, including hundreds of cheaper public schools.  Kids are beginning to see this for what it is - a total racket. At my beloved Union College, you have to take almost $100,000 in mandatory general education classes - now known as the "Global Challenges and Social Justice" curriculum (barf) - in order to graduate, which ought to be a crime.  This is a system designed to keep humanities and social science professors employed and push administrator salaries up to private sector levels, not provide affordable education and opportunities to kids.

Joe Callahan was listed at 6-1 in draft documents and usually those measurements are pretty precise.
