JT2....please go see the Purple Raiders. It's small college football at it's best. There are a couple really great players on Mount Union's team, alone worth the trip to the stadium. Perhaps you will catch a glimpse of Larry Kehres, only the most successful college football coach in the history of the United States. This is a National Championship caliber team. They throw the hell out of the ball and are explosive. Fun. Especially if you're purple.

Who is JT2?

A calmer, more patient version of the original JT.

other than a couple of uncharacteristic turnovers, Mount looks much better than against Defiance.   Ruby is Ruby, congrats on the rec yards record, and the 3rd down DL of Brown, Factor, Duke and Moore is a lethal pass rushing group

what a TD catch by Radford

D3fanboy

Another less than inspiring, zero energy second half from the Purple Raiders offense

Turnovers, sacks, middle of 4th Quarter and still haven't scored against Marietta in the second half, what is going on?  Not the way a team that wants to be a National Champion again plays.  Good thing that is something fixable before they play real tough teams.  Congratulations to the D for stepping up when needed.

Very unimpressed with the Raiders.  At this point I'm not sure they can win the conference.

Wasn't the son-in-law supposed to be an offensive genius?

This vanilla offense stuff is going to get an offensive star hurt by playing in 4th quarters against crap teams still playing hard, no offense Defiance or Etta

Yeah, they were a bit of a head scratcher.  The first Plunk pick looked like something that would happen for Cap against Mount's D.  Just staring down Ruby on a short route and the DB jumps it easily.  The Parker fumble I didn't see what happened.  He didn't get hit so I'm assuming a defender swiped at the ball as he was running by?  The second Plunk pick was a good play by the DB albeit on a play he again seemed to be 100% throwing to Ruby no matter what.  In Plunk's defense I'd be inclined to take a deep shot with Ruby against a freshman too.  Trust my guy to make a play on the ball.  Kid just had good coverage and made the play.

Was it me or did it seem like they were intentionally being slow and methodical?  Huddling up between plays, taking their time, not a ton of throws downfield, etc.

Wish they'd go back to LK's philosophy of shaping the plays around the players. Seems to be the opposite the past few years. And it's cost them.

The second half offense was certainly.... something

I have been watching Mount since 2002, I can not recall a time that they huddled as much and played at this slow a pace. Correct me if I'm wrong, but after two games, it doesnt seem to be working in their favor. Is this a tactic for later games as to not show anything?

Raider 68

The points made by the earlier Posters were right on target.

After watching the Raiders for these past two games I have some thoughts that I am glad
that I can raise them now versus after the 7th or 8th game of the season.

1. One would expect that, with 12 Grad students coming back to school for this one year to finish
the ending in the Stagg Bowl, a difference in execution, dominance, play calling and aggressiveness
    would be noticeable.

2. The defense is way ahead of the offense and the aggressiveness is there, but there is a DC.

3. No OC on staff and the play calling is going backwards. I know, many think opening the playbook
is unwise early in the season. I do not agree with that approach.

4. The tempo of both games was terrible, slow the tempo when you have a very large lead. Today the
last 2 and 1/2 quarters looked like a team that felt "we have 4 TD's. who cares if we score again
     since Marietta had 0.

5. I see no improvement year on year from QB Plunk as yet. Ruby is again above everyone else and
Tre is a nice addition at WR.

6.  The running game looks Ok, Parker is working hard again.

7. When was the last time we saw a real punt return, they do not even set up one. "Just call a fair catch"

8. Mount will have two tough games the rest of the season, and that does not include BW.

As the season moves along and if the Raiders can get by JCU, the playoffs will not be easy. Improvement
has to exceed last season if the Raiders hope to reach the Stagg again. I know, others say the Mount is
fine, Look at UMHB with 3 losses, but that is them.

So, HC this performance so far is on you. Do your job, find an OC and be creative. You need to get this team
back to a high level which it is not yet.

Hopefully none of this repeats itself by the end of Game 8.

I believe it to be the avenue that Coach Dartt chose to showcase how much the punt game has improved since week #1.   ;D

Yep. What he said X 2. Oh and Plunk has looked like he is asleep so far. No pocket awareness, staring down targets, slow. Are we sure he started before? He really seems like a first year starter....or Neal Seaman.

Mount has been twice shut out by OAC teams in the second half within the past year. Disturbing. Possessions are more precious than ever.
I like the way Echelberry and Williams stone it in there running the ball. Bodes well.
It's still very early in the development of this offense. The defense is playing lights out.
This is going to be a great team, offense and defense. They are loaded.
