Why didn't Otterbein attempt an onside kick on the 2nd half KO.  Might as well try it?

Questions I have asked during Mount v. Otterbein games for the past 30 years:
Why doesn't Ott go for it on 4th down?
Why doe Ott continue to punt?
Why does Ott run right into the middle of the defensive set on 3 straight plays?
Why doesn't Ott's coach stop looking at his watch the entire 2nd half?
Why doesn't Ott stay in the locker room and refuse to come out?
Why doesnt Ott try a trick play?
Why doesn't Ott fake punt?
Why does Ott get on the bus and leave Westerville?
Why does Ott not go to the pre-game brunch so at least on the ride home they can say "Wow! Those waffles were incredible!"

I asked the same question.  Maybe they don't have an onside kick in their playbook.

They were kicking from Mount Union's 35 yard line. What good does a touchback do you?  Run a surprise onside or squib kick and maybe get a lucky bounce?

No wonder they are 0-8, where did they get this coach. For him, it should be one and done. Otterbein's AD needs to step up for next year. How could both Capital and Otterbein be so pathetic given their location in Central Ohio. There are so many athletes there that do not go to OSU. ::)

playbook?  Otterbein has a playbook?

I can only imagine the recruiting pitch in a couple of weeks "We're the first team to put up double digits on Mount Union!!!"  Luckily for Ott, Mount doesn't really replay their games, so those poor kids won't see that it was all against the Mount JV team and the most vanilla Mount Union offense, and that's saying something in the Dartt era.

Did JCU really have senior day on their second to last home game of the year?  because Mount is the last one?  lol  That's BW level stuff

Unless...

The thinking has nothing to do with Mount.  The last couple years under Coach Bullis, UW-W actually moved our Senior Day to our first home game. It had nothing to do with who we played. I'm pretty sure the thinking was that playing the last guaranteed home game of your career is going to be emotional no matter what.  And the Senior Day focus unnecessarily  exacerbates that issue. So why not move it to a day that the "last home game" issue is not a factor.  It probably lessens the significance of "Senior Day", but I think coaches would rather affect that than affect a player's performance because he's feeling sentimental.

The questions about Otterbein's decisions may be answered by the fact that their Head Coach was not on the sideline.  I was told after the game that he was taken to the Emergency Room just before halftime for an undisclosed reason.  Anyone out there have any information about this?

I hadn't heard.. Z was my O-Line coach at JCU and I'll tell you one thing.. the man knows his football. If anyone can potentially turn Otterbein around, it's him. He was the main recruiter at JCU (along with Arth) when the "rebuild" began

I think this has to be it.. The Mount game has really become "the big one" for rivalry sakes, and the defacto Conferece championship game for 10 years.

Are you sure they didn't just move it earlier so they'd have nicer weather for senior day and hopefully better attendance? If Wisconsin is anything like Ohio, November can be a real crapshoot when it comes to temperature and precipitation.

The senior day sentimentaliy thing doesn't make any sense to me. Reminding your team that they have a limited amount of time on the field should be motivating to leave it all out there , not sure what other effect it would have.

For Saturday, the difference in the game will be Mount's defense vs. JCU's. Both teams have scored well, but Mount has the edge here as well. We'll see come Saturday.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a thing.  I threw on the JCU-Muskie game on OACTV and saw that it was Senior Day, thought it was a little odd.  Then I noticed that the year prior JCU Senior Day was the last game of the year vs Otterbein, and the last home game in '21 and '19 vs Wilma.  I'd hate to imply that JCU and their athletic department didnt want Senior Day to be marred by a Mount Union beatdown.  That sort of thing would only take place in Berea

Not sure at all, actually. I think I may have conflated two things. Thought one is that UW-W moved Senior Day off the last game of the year for a year or two.  Thought two, my father, who coached UW-W for years hated senior days because he felt like there were some guys negatively affected by the emotion.  I probably piled thought two on thought one and made an assumption. You may very well be right.
